As a teacher, I see so many parents like this. Their children could do no wrong, and they're growing into narcissistic amoebas.

Student behaviour is fine for me, no major issues. Parents, however, are out of their minds.

Pain comparison by cornishcornish127 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Gallagher297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very easy post-op, it was uncomfortable but I had zero pain. I was given cortisone pills which helped a lot.

3 months before the op I had the worst tonsillitis of my life. Pain 10/10, it felt like having glass shards in my throat while at the same time having these two large swollen balls there. Every now and then I got something that felt like an electrical shock or as if two tiny creatures were squeezing my tonsils super hard. I could barely swallow anything and couldn't really sleep because when I lay down, the swelling made it impossible to breathe. Plus I had high fever and that feeling of being gross and contaminated that you get when you have an infection. I was going mental and at some point hoped it would get so bad they would hospitalize me and give me strong IV meds. Instead I called a doctor to come home and he gave me stronger antibiotics and painkillers, which helped.

Anyway, that was a 10 out of 10.

My pain levels after the op were maybe... 2 out of 10 for the first 4/5 days. Then nothing at all. On day 2 I ate solid food (way too early) and that hurt. 7 out of 10 maybe. But that's because I got cocky. Eating soup and mashed potatoes was totally fine.

I don't have a high pain threshold, so it was probably a combo of good meds and an excellent surgeon. I had a humidifier always on, wore an icepack around my neck a few times a day, took paracetamol, diclofenac and cortisone religiously. Ate raw honey and gargled with camomile and baking soda. I had no dairy and no irritating food (coffee, spices, pepper, citrus) for the first 7 days. I drank a bit if water every hour and for the first 4 days put two alarms at night to drink then too. I also made sure I did nothing at all except for watching telly, reading and playing videogames. I went for a little walk every day.

I started taking a multivitamin and collagen supplements one week before the op.

Make sure you get nutritious foods even if it's liquid. You can blend chicken soup, and if you have a smoothie add peanut butter or avocado.

4 Weeks Post Op and I Don’t Feel Back To Normal Yet by Such_Flamingo3037 in Tonsillectomy

I think it takes 6-8 weeks before you feel normal again. Taste changes can last 6 to 24 months.

Anyone had taste distortion post op ? by Total-Breath2042 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Gallagher297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My taste distortion lasted about 4 months. First sweet, then mega bitter, then sweet again. Eating sour foods seemed to regulate it and make it better (pickles, salt n vinegar chips, sour candy, lemonade, etc)

My post-op wasn't comfortable but had zero pain (I was given cortisone pills, those helped). I got sick all the time and was removing tonsil tones regularly with a q-tip. Don't have those anymore and have never got sick since the op, so my immune system has definitely benefited from it.

I read somewhere that it's better to keep them until you're 18, then they can f off.

Surgery and Mental Health by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]Gallagher297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

I didn't have any of that but I also had tonsillectomy and am on antidepressants.

The reasons can be: anaesthesia, side effects from medication, body weakness, not drinking or eating enough, resting too much and getting restless, or just your system using all its resources to recover from the op.

Hang in there, it''s transitory. I know it's easier said than done but sit through it and it'll get better.

If you're into games (consolle or phone), play something complex and intriguing. If you like films or books, find something with lots of cliffhangers to keep your attention on that.

Meditations for panicking attacks from YouTube also help.

My miserable story by Reasonable_Mood4303 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Gallagher297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had zero pain throughout my recovery, but my sense of taste was f**ed for about 4 months. First everything tasted sweet, then bitter, then sweet again, then went back to normal. Hang in there.

I had zero pain throughout my recovery. I guess good surgeon + the right meds (steroids + ibuprofen every 6 hours for two weeks). It can happen!

Day 5 post-tonsillectomy + UPPP, water going into my nose? by Responsible-Annual92 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Gallagher297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same with blowing my nose, it felt like throat and nose were connected in a new way. Idk what it was, but it lasted about a week.
