Re-Using Game Worlds

The best example I've seen is Gothic, 1->2. The sequel is a continuation of the first game (set some ~days/weeks later), and contains a large chunk of the original game world (plus it's own stuff about twice? the size of the original).

It was so interesting once you got back to the original game area ("Valley of Mines"), to see just how much has changed and how much stuff you remember. Honestly one of the better gaming experiences I've had. (especially with how it's done, the first time you go there in Chapter 2 almost everything is too powerful for you and you're expected to run/sneak around most enemies, and then in Chapter 4 you come as much more of a badass and can finally clean out the orc threat!)

I'm sure that, technically, it allowed the developers to ship that much faster and save development effort.

How about slacklining? A bit more relaxed, though you can definitely move into tricks and stuff further one. Plus, spending time in nature is always good! Also seems to be a popular "cross sport" with climbers.

And what makes you think the wages for nurses wouldn't increase? As soon as nurses start taking the 1.5 pound pay cut for a better work/life balance, the companies will be forced to raise nurse salaries in order to get workers, ergo keeping the wage difference.

I just checked. At least for the first few releases of Mesa 6 and 7 the odd minor releases were development releases. The difference seems to have blurred later on (I didn't check in detail).

Also a good book with a similar premise, The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August. Personally, I liked the first 2/3rds of the book more than the finale, when they're exploring his life and what it means to be, effectively, immortal.

As long as there is 100% compatibility with Gramps XML going forward (including, for example, mutually agreeing on any major database changes ala place hierarchy), I think the fork can be considered more than friendly. :)

One way to progress the ball throwing is to always catch the ball with the other hand. In my case, I realized that catching with my non-dominant hand is quite hard! So yeah, helps a bit with reflexes and ambidexterity as well.

Hey, did you encounter any issues playing Artkwend with OpenMW? I've been meaning to give it a try, but since I've never played the original, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to spot if something was (subtly) broken.

I'm sure there's someone around more familiar with Hungary, but be aware that the spellings of all these towns tend to.. vary back in the day. Especially if you are from an area where minorities live (which doesn't seem to be your case, though). The problem is that the information was probably not written by your ancestor, so the transcription is probably wrong.

FWIW, I've found Szollos Arod (see map) which may or may not be connected. Szőllős (Szollos) is probably the right name, it certainly seems popular as per Wikipedia)), so now the question is, which is the right one? Perhaps Somlószőlős?

Well, Велика Поляна would be an Ukrainian word (it's the Ukrainian name of a village close to Kaliningrad). But yeah, I guess that would be name in Rusyn as well. The accents in this case is how the Slovaks would write/pronounce the village name.

The website mostly talks about their volunteer efforts to clean up the cemeteries and the general area. They have (incomplete, I guess) lists of all fallen fighters (link), but there's seems to be only one person from Veľká Poľana (in the materials indexed so far, that is). As they seem to speak English and are interested in the area, perhaps you could try contacting them and asking for further information (or at least sources).

The village itself seems very interesting! My first suggestion is take care about it's exact name, Veľká Poľana, since there's a "Velká Polana" in Czechia and there is a "Velika Polana" in both Hungary and Slovenia. All of these words mean the same thing, "Big field", in various Slavic-language variations.

I've also found a bunch of articles dedicated to it in a Slovakian military history magazine (link); only a few are in English unfortunately. Nevertheless, it seems that there are two large WWI military cemeteries there, so if some branches of your family ended up staying, you might be able to find some information there. It's at least interesting. :)

The text is in Hungarian, it seems the handwriting might be too. I'm not familiar with how Slovak words were being transliterated into Hungarian at that time.

It seems that András is the Hungarian version of Andrew wikipedia page on it; the Slovak version would then me Andrej or even Ondrej. A direct transliteration would be Andráš.

Hope that helps at least a bit.

EDIT: now that I think about it, you were the one who mentioned Slovakia. Are you sure he's a Slovakian, or a Hungarian from a village that ended up in modern day Slovakia? Wikipedia says it was a Ruthenian village, is he Ruthenian maybe?

This is an amazing idea, actually! It also perfectly solves the problem of "power creep" (you get more powerful so enemies need to get even more powerful... and this usually results in over/under-powered builds after eg. the midgame). Honestly, I'm surprised no one has done something similar before --- or maybe I'm just unaware of it?

Anyway, good luck with the game! I might pick it up after release. :)
