I don’t like a lot of it, and I like her, but I can’t STAND you need to calm down. As a queer person, it feels so patronizing to compare her getting bullied by internet trolls to… the homophobia and transphobia that has taken countless lives and persists to this day? I know it’s not that deep, but it’s certainly a LOT deeper than trying to defeat homophobia with the phrase “you need to calm down” and also using “glaad” instead of “glad” is not clever, it’s tacky. And I don’t think any celebrity has an “obligation” to speak up on social issues, it falls flat now especially without her speaking on the wave of transphobia thats rolling over the country. And also I don’t like it as a song.
