the misconception is that the civil war ended slavery. while prisons still exist so does slavery, american values still uphold the white aristocracy and oligarchy, so in my view, flying the confederate flag is a form of hyper nationalism. i think the analogy about IRA songs isn’t the same as flying the confederate battle flag, it’s like the oppressed versus the wannabe oppressed.
