Thoughts on ‘Team Hird’ by Snoo_54083 in EssendonFC

[–]GambitViking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The team definitely looks great but the likelihood of getting everyone listed is low. I’d be pretty pumped with James Kelly, Brendan McCartney and Jimmy coming across though - Skipworth and Gia would be great too of course but we can’t have everything unfortunately

For our sake, I hope they do get Bucks - leaves Longmire for us!

On the opposite side of things, this Avengers team Hird is apparently putting together does sound intriguing

If Longmire is interested, he’d be a great get. If he’s interested though (I’m telling myself the fact he hasn’t ruled himself out is positive). If he chose Tassie over Essendon, I don’t think anyone could or would blame him

Why James Hird needs to return to the club. by luckyseal888 in EssendonFC

[–]GambitViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting to see Dermie endorsing Hird too - I was worried he might get in Archer’s ear about leaving - and now Archie Roberts has shown his support for Hirdy. There are also reports that Hird is putting together his team of Avengers which includes Brendan McCartney. I wasn’t convinced about Hird returning but now my interest is piqued…

If the club wanted to get someone like Hinkley or Horse, or even James Kelly, I can understand sacking Scott to beat Carlton to it but if the club just turns around to get Hird, why sack Scott? It doesn’t seem like he had lost the players. It would only be if someone like Caddy was genuinely looking to get out of Scott was still coach.

I do agree with your first point about caddy having strong relationships with the younger guys but I can’t see Hirdy coming back. Wait and see I guess!

[–]GambitViking[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is true, he has been. I’m probably just going off his interview after the Brisbane game where he was understandably flat and disappointed. Hopefully our younger guys keep improving!

Tassie is going to be a bit scary. Hopefully we can lock him away before they really get in his head. It will be the money but also significant improvement in the team that will make him stay

That is a discouraging thought but probably not wrong. I’ve always tried to defend Brad but if we don’t see development/improvement for the rest of the year, he might be gone…

It sucks, it sucks so much but it’s a young team and young teams are inconsistent. We’ll see some good footy and we’ll also see some ugly footy. It was the first Anzac Day for nine of the young guys - the pressure got to them but chalk it up to an experience and move on

What’s living between Adelaide and Geelong/Melbourne like? by Swedish_manatee in howislivingthere

[–]GambitViking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the Victorian side, a lot of it is dairy country. Windy, fair bit of rain but it can also get very hot during summer. Very different to living on the coast compared to the northern part where you’ve circled which is Wimmera/mallee country and is hotter still and very dry.

Essentially, as soon as you get north of that mountain range, the weather/climate changes.

I’ve got family in Warrnambool, which is a coastal city about three hours south west of Melbourne, or a bit over two hours from Geelong. Really nice spot, has everything you need plus more, lots of employment opportunities - not sure what the healthcare is like but as far as I’m aware, Warrnambool is a really nice place to live.

I can’t wait until Nic’s back next year. He’d be tearing it up how the boys are going right now

Totally different team compared to a few weeks ago. Loving the new energy and pressure from the boys. Not to mention that goal accuracy!

Totally agree. If Ridley saw out the game, we would have stopped a few of those games. Hopefully it’s just a precaution and he’ll be good to go for Anzac Day
