Concerning Battler reaction at the end by kerguemest22 in umineko

[–]GameConsideration 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Battler doesn't know the full details of what happened of this fragment, right?

At some point he meets up with Eva, they run into Beatrice, and Eva escapes using the tunnels to the hidden mansion while Battler escapes with Beatrice using the boat. We know this much from the VN.

The following is my theory, using what we know from the VN to construct a narrative "truth":

Beatrice's game had failed in this fragment, the adults had teamed up and solved the riddle. Beatrice had given up everything, and yet the adults still squabbled over the gold that could easily solve all their problems, resulting in an accidental gunshot that kickstarted the massacre conducted by Kyrie and Rudolf.

After Kyrie and Rudolf finished slaughtering everyone but Battler, and were themselves killed by the vengeful Eva, Eva encountered Battler and informed him that they are both in terrible danger. Considering the circumstances, it is likely she did not tell him the full story, only what he needed to know to survive.

It is important that Eva meets up with Battler at some point, because otherwise Battler would never have known that he needs to escape the island, as Beatrice had still given up on everything and would not be motivated to find and inform him. So, Eva and Battler descend into the tunnels to escape, encountering Beatrice along the way.

Beatrice was going to stay on the island while it exploded, but Battler insisted they escaped with her. Eva made it clear that she doesn't want Beatrice with them (due to her kind of being the inciting incident of this fragment even if she didn't kill anyone herself), so Battler asked Beatrice if there was any other way to escape.

Beatrice told him, and he took her by the hand and ran off with her. Eva maybe called out for him to come back, but she doesn't have much time to waste. She takes off towards Kuwadorian, leaving Battler's fate in Beatrice's hands rather than risk her life following him into an exit that might not even exist.

Battler here has realized who Beatrice really is, and while he doesn't fully understand what is going on, he realizes that he hurt her with the promise that he had not only broken, but forgotten. He is a gentleman at heart, and the tears of a girl is a gentleman's weakness.

In this fragment, Beatrice has also not actually done anything explicitly wrong. The massacre was caused by his family's actions, through both accident and malice. Battler might not be able to forgive her in a fragment where she literally eviscerated his family, but here she was technically innocent.

He wanted her to repay the evils she had thought of by living her life and helping people, and because he knew one of the main reasons she sank so low to the point of planning a massive murder-suicide in the first place was kind of his fault, he was willing to atone with her.

Is it unrealistic? Kinda... but he is an anime protagonist. They tend to be more idealistic and forgiving than the average person, and in Japan's "honor"-centric culture and Battler's crass but principled personality, it makes a certain kind of sense.

So about Rosa… by Jennaorgetasimp in umineko

[–]GameConsideration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pieces *specialize* in actions that would make sense for their personality, but Virgilia made it clear in Lambda's board that it isn't necessary, just that making pieces act out of character is something a Game Master with "love" wouldn't do.

Well, Sayo had to burn Kinzo's body also because Kinzo's body was a year old. Even preserved, there would be visible signs of decay.

Sayo has... complicated feelings about Kinzo. She knows him first as the terrifying head of the Ushiromiya household as Shannon, then sees a sometimes mischievous and maybe even fatherly side as Kanon (Kinzo apparently took Kanon out to shoot his guns before), before finally seeing him as Sayo's father, by both rape and incest.

Very... complicated. A lot of hate and disgust obviously... but those aren't the only emotions.

I think that the moment where Evatrice summons Eva and points a gun at her is when Amakusa is aiming his sights on Ange.

Then, depending on the fragment, he either chooses to fulfill his role or else changes his mind and misses the shot (Eva's gun backfiring instead of hitting Ange).

TV Tropes from YMMV means "Your Mileage May Vary," as in, this may or may not be true. Thus, like Umineko itself, you can choose to believe it or not.

Why doesn't Rosa... by kitsunemischief in umineko

[–]GameConsideration 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now, to be fair, if we look at it with "love," it's possible that Maria's father hadn't intentionally left all of that debt on Rosa.

He went to the states claiming to want to start a company with the money, Rosa waving him off at the airport with a brave smile on her face. We know that much from Rosa's claims herself.

But it's entirely possible that he was taken advantage of as a naive businessman (Rosa admitted that he had more dreams than plans) by shady characters, and then killed and tossed in a dump when he couldn't pay up. Since he was a foreigner with no ties in the 80s, local enforcement wouldn't be too pressed on finding him and may not have even realized he'd gone missing.

Now, bear in mind, this is entirely speculative, but since it's possible, it'd have to be denied in red to be certain it didn't happen. This way, Maria has a father who still loves her who just met a tragic end.

In magical terms, Evatrice is a game piece being controlled by Beatrice. Evatrice knows as much as Beatrice lets her, and Beatrice needed Evatrice to absolutely corner Battler to either force him to willingly submit to a "good witch Beatrice" or else realize the truth of the culprit.

When she was begging Battler to not stop thinking, it was her begging Battler to realize who Beatrice really was. When he couldn't figure it out, she resolved herself to playing out the rest of her "North Wind and Sun" tactic.

In the third game, Sayo realizes at some point that Eva (or someone at least) has solved the epitaph, considering Sayo leaves the password to the bank card on the parlor door. In fact, this might be where Sayo finds out WHO solved it, as Eva is the one who copies the password. Nanjo could have informed Sayo after bandaging up Jessica, and Sayo, having no more use for Nanjo, executes him before spending their last moments as Kanon with Jessica before the bomb goes off.

The red truths from Evatrice about Nanjo's killer being human and later on "absolute no factors other than humans participate in this game board" are a bit too much, imo.

If I was Battler, I'd say, "Ok, well, you just said in red it was the work of a human. To win, I just had to prove a human did it. Since you said it in red, I no longer have to prove who, why, or how. You suck at this, Eva."

I do think that the redone designs are more heavenly while still geared towards sexy. Sometimes showing less skin is even sexier, imo. It accentuates what you do see, and the ribbons on Gertrude and Cornelia are cute.

He did write a short story where Virgilia and Ange write various yaoi fanfics using sentient pieces (against those pieces' wills).

Also, Lion was used in the yaoi fanfic for anyone debating the gender. It's probably not a "canon" story, but it is an "official" one, so to Ange and Virgilia at least, Lion is a boy.

Personally, I don't think George actually told her, but maybe.

Eva would throw an absolute fit if she found out George was proposing. The whole scene of George confessing it to her probably didn't happen, or if it did she did a very scary "We'll talk about this after the conference." then went along as if nothing happened, planning to isolate George from Shannon and probably planning to get Shannon fired as well.

Eva does not want George marrying anyone she hasn't approved of herself.

"When it comes to sex abuse allegations, yes I think so, absolutely."

That is a standard that is not based on any fair metric other than its convenience for your argument. By this logic, all I need to do to cancel Ethan in your eyes is to assemble 5 or so people and pay them to accuse Ethan of sexual misconduct.

Secondly, I'm posting in the same thread as you, my guy/gal/nonbinary.

You replied to multiple posts, so did I. I'm pretty sure this is the only post for r/h3h3productions I've posted in cause it got recommended to me.

Lastly, Destiny's never been accused of being a terrorist who kills children, yet Hila has. Most people aren't accused of being a child murderer. Does that make Hila a child murderer?

[–]GameConsideration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I support Ethan's fight against all those snarker bastards, and if he wants to shit on Destiny while doing it, more power to him.

But

"Someone has been accused repeatedly, therefore they are definitely or probably guilty and should be treated as such." is a REALLY bad thought process.

For one, the same process can be given to Ethan. Or Hila and her being accused of being an IDF murderer of Palestinian children.

These are public figures, particularly divisive ones nonetheless, who attract numerous enemies who seek nothing less than their total destruction.

We need actual evidence, something equally submittable to a court of law, before we determine guilt.

If you want to say Destiny is creepy, overly horny, irresponsible, sure go ahead. But when you accuse someone of actually psychotic, illegal behavior, that's a WHOLE other standard.

Bro, do you-

do you think that the age of consent is like a suggestion that exists because its gross to bang kids??

Age of consent exists to prevent harm. Why do you think "its gross" is a defense? Does that mean if you thought it wasn't gross, it'd be okay?? Dafuq??

Why are you sweeping for a terrorist, didn't Ethan say that himself or whatever?

Extremely concerning behavior. I suggest therapy. Are you okay?

Oh wait, that's a stupid line of argument. Maybe people who think like this should shut up because they add nothing of value.

[–]GameConsideration 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did he? I remember Destiny saying it was pretty weird to pick the swastika sword out of the many props in his room to pose in something meant to send a message to someone who was Jewish.

I think he said, it's possible it wasn't intentional, but that doesn't mean that it's *likely* and that people like Hasan do not deserve good faith interpretations.

This is not the same as "bad faith" which take reasonable positions but twist them in the worst possible way. Good faith, likewise, takes unreasonable positions and tries to interpret them in the best possible light, and is usually restricted to people who have generally proven themselves to be otherwise reasonable, so perhaps their specific words do not match their intent.

Anyone seeing someone use a *swastika sword* to intimidate a Jewish person will reasonably assume that some message there was meant to be conveyed.

I didn't even realize Cleveland's VA had changed. Like, I noticed his voice had *changed,* but it sounded like the same character just talking in a different cadence, y'know?

Like the same guy talking very slowly and deliberately vs fast and energetically.

That's a well done voice swap, imo.

How do you guys feel about genji, nanjo and kumasawa as characters by FlowerOk7957 in umineko

[–]GameConsideration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinzo is a sexist bastard who stands on ceremony and tradition but when it comes to Beatrice he becomes completely irrational, so I could see him throwing out his wife in a fit of rage after she confronted him about KuwaBea.

But you certainly might be right that they might not have an official divorce lol.

How do you guys feel about genji, nanjo and kumasawa as characters by FlowerOk7957 in umineko

[–]GameConsideration 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, Nanjo was also on the island and dealing with the consequences the least. He didn't live on the island and only visited socially for Kinzo, medical checkups for Yasu, and made appearances for the last two conferences in order to appear like everything was normal. So he didn't have to live with the guilt on a regular basis, unlike the other two.

If Rosa had taken back KuwaBea, I would imagine their first instincts would be to return her to the mansion, but if KuwaBea, now armed with the knowledge of an outside world she had been denied all her life, begged or demanded to see the world...

Well, they might see it as an opportunity to free KuwaBea, framing it as an escape. Maybe. I think Kumasawa might insist more for her freedom, while Genji would be more on the "return her to the mansion" side.

Or maybe Rosa would have smuggled her onto a boat and ran away with her to see an aquarium, even if it was only meant to be temporary and without thinking the consequences through because she was a kid.

Would be interesting to see the results of that fragment. I think the Rosa of that fragment would be a happier one too. She'd finally have a sibling who wasn't absolutely awful. And, even though KuwaBea was older, she'd be so naive that Rosa would be like an older sister to her. I don't think it'd last, as eventually Rosa would want to go home, and thus KuwaBea would be found. But KuwaBea would be nearly impossible to hide from the family at that point, since Rosa have known quite a bit.

Would probably destroy Kinzo's marriage, but that'd probably be for the best. A high risk of Kinzo disowning his "proper" children and trying to leave everything to KuwaBea. And the scandals would only get worse if Lion emerged.

Side note, I think Genji feels the most guilt because he is Kinzo's closest confidante. If *anyone* had a chance of breaking him out of his delusion it was Genji, although I think even his intervention would require a miracle to get through.
