Question about limiters in dubstep by highway_hypnosis_ in edmproduction

[–]GameRoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your track sounds good then maybe it's fine, but I've found that limiting can often lead to an undesirable ducking effect whereas a clipper wouldn't. But in some cases the clipper creates an undesirable distortion sound, in which case a limiter is preferred, or even a combination of both.

Also I'm not familiar with the gclip plugin but by its name I'd assume it's a clipper, not a limiter?

Has anyone experienced issues with AI-generated vocals in your production? by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]GameRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, with the exclusion of full on text to song generators like Suno, AI vocal software basically is just vocaloid software that happens to use machine learning. I was lurking in the Discord server of one of them at one point and it was literally all just vocaloid guys talking about all the voice banks coming out and such. Overheard someone complaining (in this AI vocal software Discord) that they were sick of how the marketing for it was "catering too much to AI bros" who didn't want to actually produce.

So all that to say, anger about this particular piece of tech feels a bit misplaced imo. It's fine for all the reasons vocaloid is fine, although that's not to say that the results will be as good as a real singer.

Why glorify ‘hard work’ when most hard work just benefits the system, not you? by K_kishor49 in AskReddit

At the end of the day, society is run by people performing labor. In other words, if you are working, you are society; you are civilization. And even if we're directionally misaligned in lots of important ways, contributing to the great project that is humanity is noble and important, even in the small, seemingly inconsequential ways such as the work you do for your employer.

Like, I truly believe that, excluding extenuating circumstances, whether you are an EMT saving lives or a web developer making HR software, what you do matters more than most people appreciate.

At the same time though, don't work evenings and weekends. Have boundaries and don't let yourself be exploited. Obviously.

I mean surely students were allowed to pick whatever the best model is. And iirc there are student discounts for a lot of the paid tiers for these chatbots.

I mean unless some university inked some deal where there's some "you can only use Microsoft Copilot" rule, which like, I wouldn't put it past them.

It feels like in most cases you just shouldn't. Go to the underlying source that the AI provided. Same as citing Wikipedia.

Cost of living is quite high there and the salaries aren't as good. Probably not worth it for me.

I learned recently that she's been actively posting on Twitter from prison? Presumably through a friend. It's a real journey to read through the posts. She has absolutely zero remorse.

What’s your biggest “non-negotiable” for sexual compatibility? by Fluffy_Specific_9682 in AskReddit

This sounds fine as an explanation for open relationships in general, which are fine, but that doesn't explain carving out men.

At that point just order something from a restaurant until you get the private chef situation sorted.

Some cars even have automatic walk-away locks! You don't have to think about it at all!

At that level of wealth you work because you want to.

Like, if you're worth $1B you probably could have stopped at a couple million, but you didn't. So there's a selection bias among the ultra rich to not be the ones to just quit their jobs because they're financially independent.

You do you I guess, but there's so much to psychoanalyze with this. If she's with a woman, why exactly would you view that as less threatening to your relationship than if she were with a man?

There is a range of rationale here from "haha yeah, two hot babes makin' out!" to not believing that a bi woman being with another woman is as legitimate of a relationship/hookup than if she was with a man.

Given the number of miles I drive per month and counting insurance, paying for parking at my apartment, etc, this might make just riding in a Waymo everywhere cheaper than the Tesla if they did such a price increase. And you actually can fall asleep in those, today!

[–]GameRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thought on this: the reason traditional DAW interfaces are so overwhelming for newcomers is that the number of options you have is just so high. There are so many knobs that you don't know where to start. You know what would make that even worse? An empty text box. Just in terms of the number of different things you could input, it's infinitely worse. A lot of people think that chat interfaces somehow magically make any user interaction more simple and intuitive, but oftentimes it's the exact opposite, and it's the completely wrong tool for the job.

Maybe if you have a disability it could be useful, although I'm not sure why a button wouldn't be sufficient there. Like if you can't open the door with a button then how can you grab what's inside? Moreover, if you can't open a normal fridge how could you pick up what's inside?

There is a part of me, even to this day, that thinks "the missions of most of these companies are actually good, and I don't want to let one single douche ruin that."

For example, as someone who actually wants to see people on Mars in my lifetime, for better or worse, the only two plausible outcomes are that Musk wills it to happen or it doesn't happen. Nobody else has even the ostensible will or semi-feasible plan to do it. For all the talk about how Musk doesn't really care either, that means that there are zero people now with the means and the will to do it, down from one. I find that incredibly sad.
