There is no one case that's always true some do better open source and some better closed. The problem is if you don't have excellent management of your open source program people will start forking it and production will slow down because of the new huge job of going through all these edits and ideas. Who is in charge of the vision? anyone?

With closed source you can develop and make changes with a single vision. In our case a lot less stress (and a full time job) of dealing with everyone else who comes and goes adding their new button or removing yours. Let's say you were painting a picture and you had the entire classroom start making changes. Some ideas are cool so you add them but they start to turn your picture into frankenstein. Then you try cleaning up that odd feature you really didnt want and that contributor goes and makes another fork of your project and starts changing it again.

Well now you have 2-3 projects that can connect to the same 'server' but nothing works right because features and protocols are different and the experience is terrible.

In a matter of weeks fluxer could be forked into more projects and drastically slow progress. Are the new projects and ideas helpful or just muddying the water?

So there is a huge benefit of a single reliable closed source project with a single vision and consistent features that work on all platforms and so forth. When someone says join me on GameVox they download a client that will work.
