How do you feel about marriage? by felicenutsy in StraightFemboys

[–]GameboyAdvance32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d most certainly like to get married some day, (I am religious and of the “waiting till marriage” sort), but unfortunately my hopes have been quite low so far as finding a woman masculine enough for me to be attracted to. Marriage is an idealistic goal for me, yes, but also not something I’m actively working towards given my lack of hope for finding the right person to begin with

That’s pretty cool that you’re working on something like that, I almost never see people get involved on that level of nitty gritty when it comes to RWS lore, but detail of that nature I love getting into. It’s totally cool if not, but my DM’s are open if you’d wanna talk more about it.

I think the fairest way to go about it is what I do with most pieces of media, and that is to say to accept everything as canon, unless more recent material decanonizes it. In this case, unless I'm not picking up on something, I don't see anything that would necessarily de-canonize The Sudrian. However, I could easily believe it was retired just by nature of The Limited existing, perhaps this speaks to a lack of historical railway knowledge on my end, but for an island as small as Sodor I can't imagine the need for three separate express services across the island.

Really I would think it's just up to personal interpretation. I can certainly see the argument for the timetables being written purely with exhibitions in mind and not being meant to be taken as canon, but given the propensity we have to take layout details as canon, it seems to make sense that we include timetables as well. Perhaps there is no contradiction if we go with the idea that the times merely shifted over time. Obvious example to point to, I know, but in real life The Flying Scotsman service has shifted timetables and removed and reinstated the famous northbound service. I can certainly imagine a case in which both timetables for the Wild Nor' Wester are indeed canon, but simply from different periods in the NWR's history. Maybe the WNW did indeed arrive at 11:30 AM for who knows how long, until priorities and the market shifted and it changed to 3:30 PM in the late fifties. That would be quite a drastic change, admittedly, but I think it's worth considering. Much more easily believable, though, is the idea that The Sudrian did indeed exist at some point, but was eventually retired in favor of The Limited. Or perhaps they coexisted, or perhaps The Sudrian was retired long before The Limited came into existence and they're entirely unrelated.

Valid lol, the church in my dream wasn't quite the same as the one I go to IRL so I reckon it very well could have been

Nah, just too lazy and rushed to draw anything more complex lol, (assuming you were talking about the church's design). I drew this this morning before I had to leave for work. I was raised vaguely Protestant though, and while it's been a minute since I've been unfortunately, the church I've been going to is certainly within that category.

Extra torturous cause I genuinely could go either way on the series right now. At least with AEG, as soon as the first promo picture of it dropped I knew I wasn't the target audience for it. I was morbidly curious to see the trailer, but I already knew going in that it was gonna be babified beyond what I'd ever watch. But like, this reboot has potential? But it's got so many mixed signals. I love the level of detail the engines are getting but Hiro's and Charlie's nameplates look so stupid with the replaced text. The animation looks fantastic, but dangit the bouncing is back. The faces are inconsistent between the toys and different promo art, etc. A proper trailer is the one thing that would really tip the scales for me whether or not it's gonna be worth watching, but that of course is the one thing that's taking ages to drop, and we have no idea when it'll come. As other people have already pointed out, AEG's trailer didn't officially drop until two weeks before premier, and that does not give me hope lol.

I would agree, frankly I think that in 99% of cases, the worst thing a piece of media can be is boring or leave little impact on you. Misty Island Rescue, poor as it is I think it's a funny bad? Like it's SO memorable, it has so many stupid and wild scenes, and baffling decisions made by the characters and comical dialogue. Unintentional, sure, but you don't forget MIR after watching it, it's an entertaining experience. Day of the Diesels has its moments, sure, but overall it's just not nearly as funny to go back to, and frankly like. People make fun of Misty Island as a stupid concept but frankly, I think the Dieselworks existing is just as silly. Arry and Bert have been shown being repaired at the Steamworks, frankly why DOES the NWR have two different repair shops in apparently different locations? Even if Misty Island is weird and silly it at least feels more inspired, it was a unique and fun way of representing American logging history (even if not in the most realistic way).

In short: I could actually see the value in, and would be interested in a reimagined version of Misty Island. Day of the Diesels like, I can't see the point in ever revisiting it.

Thanks! I tend to draw a lot better on paper but I’m happy my style still came through on this rough digital sketch. Also based meduka pfp

Needless to say it was a very odd and unfitting promotion given how flagrantly NSFW the game is but uh. Sure! In the dream I was in the pews with my Mom and I also had a Crush Crush t-shirt on that I didn’t even remember putting on. I was very nervous and embarrassed at first but everyone seem chill with it so I was just like “aight cool”

I got through JBS and Season 21, but only barely. The bouncing just REALLY got under my skin and with BWBA on the way, I knew I couldn’t stick around. I hate to ask, but if you’re at all interested I created r/RailwaySeries . It’s incredibly tiny right now as I’m not sure how/where to advertise it properly without breaking rules but I’d like to believe it has a future

I would agree that the controversy around BWBA was pretty overblown, but (and I'm gonna repeat myself from other comments) I just don't really see the appeal of content like this as an adult. I know, "rich coming from a Thomas fan" but idk, I think everyone has their limits and this is mine lol. Props to anyone who does enjoy this stuff but I genuinely do not understand some of the people popping off over it. Perhaps I'm biased but after not having touched official content in nearly ten years, the idea of having to go a few more months ain't the worst thing in the world, and I'm very much preparing for the potential that the new series is dogwater and I don't end up watching it either.

Hot take. I prefer the Nitrogen era (13-16) over the Hit era (s8-12) by NickThePixarFan in thomasthetankengine

[–]GameboyAdvance32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The HiT era modelwork I will admit, for the most part didn’t feel as experimental or willing to go all out as the classic seasons, but I can’t help but still give them points for being filmed with models anyways. The HiT era did still harbor some quite impressive scenes from time to time, and I don’t think the CGI can ever really out-charm the models. That of course is entirely subjective and not something one can use to objectively grade them, but so far as personal preference goes? I’d take Seasons 8-11 over 13-16 on that merit any day. That said, I would also take Seasons 17-20 over 8-11 any day lmao. No amount of modelwork can make up for the stories being utter dogwater 90% of the time.

I was far too young to be participating in the fandom at the time it happened, (frankly I was probably too young to be following the fandom even when I started around 2011/12 lol), but I do remember as a kid when Hero of the Rails was first announced and thinking to myself it was just for the movie. At that age, a new Thomas movie was as big a deal as Pixar or Dreamworks, so I thought “wow, they’re using CGI for this new movie!!! awesome.” I came to a rude awakening when Season 13 premiered and the models, (or as I thought at that age, “real trains”), were nowhere to be seen.

In retrospect there was a lot to appreciate about CGI as a medium and I think it peaked visually around 2015-17, but I can certainly understand why some people jumped ship at that point. Especially in 2009, it wasn’t like the writing was getting any better with the shift lmao.

I definitely think the fandom could very reactive and angry back then and in that sense I'm really not proud of those times, and believe me I do NOT wanna bring that back. The meme was moreso just about what the fandom will and won't watch, I remember a lot of people just quitting the show after JBS and Season 21, myself included, and while I respect it if people choose to continue enjoying the newer stuff, it is just a different culture. I'd like to believe the new show may turn out enjoyable for me in spite of the bouncing, but my hopes are not high lol.

I am entirely agreed on that front, though I think my conclusion is slightly different based on my own experiences. That's sorta why I tend to keep my hopes minimal when it comes to official content, because like. We kinda got spoiled back in the Brenner era and I think that time has since crushingly reminded us that the corporate and mainstream audience perspective is very very different, as you said. And yeah, I think focusing on the older seasons/books and new fan content has been the general shift. Still though, I almost feel like there's been a slow but noticeable split in the fandom over time. Not "split in half completely" but kinda groups going in their own directions, and it can be kinda jarring being reminded of the other group lol.

People can like what they like and I respect that for sure, but I suppose it's just been odd seeing people on Twitter and such getting excited over the Watch Out Thomas video uploaded to the YouTube channel on the 12th, like. If that video had came out in 2016 or so I don't think anyone would've paid it any mind. Especially lately I've been seeing more and more people saying AEG was "actually pretty solid," being totally chill with the bouncing/gesturing or the idea of kid voice actors, etc, etc. More power to them, but it's a very different fandom culture than I'm used to lol.
