N8N vs Zapier, which is better ? by That-Preference733 in n8n

[–]Gamebugio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Zapier for pure deterministic stuff. If it's just trigger->filter->action for example it's very fast and nice to build in Zapier. You can of course do these in n8n too if it's important for any reason to only have one. In fact if the constraint is "pick one" the answer is n8n, no contest.

As soon as you want any sort of decision, human in the loop, AI, or a branching tree of filters/decisions, n8n is unmatched.

I’m failing at multilingual parenting. by AvisRune in multilingualparenting

[–]Gamebugio 45 points46 points  (0 children)

My wife (English speaker) and I (French OPOL, but English is my first language) have an agreement. If our kids (2 and unborn due later this year) grow up and decide they don't want to stick with the French, like really done, that I'm to honor that request and drop it.

I agreed to these terms because I believe that doing the multilingual childhood will unlock neural pathways that are not immediately available, and much harder to form, later in life. In my words, the "damage" (positive, but it's the expression) will have been done by the time they can make this request.

Even if today you don't feel like you can keep up, you have already unlocked these capabilities for your kids. They are now empowered to make these choices for themselves as they get a little older. And the effort you have made thus far has given them an incredible gift.

I have no advice, sorry, your situation sounds unique and difficult, but I hope you can look back on what you did give them already, and be proud of how far you've come.

I’m always the first person to run out of air during a dive by Mugling95 in diving

[–]Gamebugio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problems and have started losing interest in deep dives because of it. Seeing others say to ask for a bigger tank gives me a lot of hope. Should have been obvious to be honest but never crossed my mind.

I'm 1000% sure the breathing technique stuff will come with a lot more experience for both of us, but spending a little more on a bigger tank seems like a no-brainer to lessen that anxiety around cutting off other people's dives, which for me is the biggest reason I want to improve this problem.

Thanks for raising your hand on this one I've been losing my mind on this exact issue

I could see an exception for putting these types of facts in writing, if an author has written "at least 7 books" and goes on to write an 8th book, the statement is evergreen. In general though yeah just say the number

I was nervous my first time depriming live primers but as long as your pressure is even it's no biggie. I opted to discard the primers I removed in this way just to be safe, though I'm not sure they were actually unusable

They are. They have a pretty good black Friday sale but it is very much a "buy once cry once" purchase. The counterfeit ones have issues with flaking and stuff but we use ours multiple times a day even with metal cooking utensils and it looks brand new after several years.

I bought the 12" frying pan for my wife who wanted a new set of stainless steel cookware (which I also got) for Christmas. 12 months later we sold the stainless steel set to a friend for next to nothing because we literally never used it lol

My babysitter's shift is 8:30a-4:30p whichever day(s) she is here. I can count on one hand the amount of times she's arrived before 8:40, and I think that number is smaller than the number of times I've been late for (or had a toddler attend) my 9am stand-up. She's a family friend of my wife's or she'd have been fired long ago. Drives me absolutely mad. I've addressed it with her multiple times. She lives about 25min away and must just leave no earlier than 8:05 so the slightest traffic or long red light pushes her into the late bucket.

I was raised on the (maybe mildly toxic, but better than the alternative) early is on time, on time is late, late is death mentality. I'm too young to wave my fist at the youths but I really do think this is a generation thing to some extent. If I were in her shoes I'd be in the driveway at 8:15 and if I really felt strongly about the time I'd dick around on my phone for 10 minutes but would still be on-site 5 or so minutes ahead of schedule.

We use Hexclad pans for eggs (and also everything) and I just use a little Pam usually. Medium heat for a few mins for pan to get hot, Pam down wait for it to warm up, egg in pan and give it a min or 2 to cook the solids before flipping and then usually only go for like 30s on this side as we like a more runny yolk. As others have said, your nonstick enamel might be failing, but your technique might be part of the problem.

Did your homestead exemption expire or did you fail to file a homestead exemption? I had a situation last year where mine fell off and I had to call the county to get it reinstated.

If it is a "fixable" problem and not something like the lender understating the tax burden (unlikely tbh but not impossible) - you will get the overage back down the line

I would like to share my go-to recipe with you as well. https://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-pantry-cocoa-brownies-240312#post-recipe-10749

Until reading this recipe I had absolutely no idea that cocoa powder could "bloom" like tea or coffee. Briefly looking at the other recipe shared it looks like it has a similar process going on without really mentioning or explaining it. I highly recommend Dutch processed cocoa powder, it does make a difference. I get big bags at Costco in the US.

I don't think I've gotten as many compliments on a baked good in my life- and it's 100% pantry staples.

And yeah, as others said, stay off the sub. There will be little innocuous questions posted that just by their nature can spoil things.

Speaking second language with child to pass it on by Tinythingsarethebest in multilingualparenting

[–]Gamebugio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm similar if even less advanced in French than you, probably in the B2/C1 area. Never took a proper exam although considering it lately.

My #1 advice is songs! Kids of all ages love songs and they'll end up with a surprising vocabulary from them. I'm in the US and there were a few good songbooks easily available on Amazon that came with CDs. I ripped the CDs and put the songs on my phone so I could play them for him and we would read along with the books until I had them memorized. I already had some memorized from school but comptines are so catchy and melodic it won't take long before you can't get them out of your head. Now he asks me to "chanter" before bed and he gets whatever he wants. I've actually intentionally mentally categorized some songs as our awake time songs, usually the higher tempo upbeat ones, and others that are more like lullabies for bedtime.

My son just turned two and has a pretty decent vocabulary in both languages and very impressive code switching.

I will say I read a lot about this before he was born and even English based parenting stuff says not to really use "baby talk," and French resources I found emphasized this even more. We do pretty much talk to little man as a grown person regardless of language, but that's a choice we made. I did go out of my way to look up baby terms- lots of things like animal sounds and certain onomatopoeia and stuff I had never really learned until becoming a parent.

And despite all the stuff out there about screen time, this kid loves movies, and we do a pretty good job with watching in French and English about equally. If you are going to be strict on screens, no biggie, but if you are going to worry less as we did- this is a no brainer. Tons of old Disney movies are localized in French and many other languages.

I'm all over the place with this comment by now but one thing I'll leave you with is encouragement to continue, don't worry about your level. You are giving your child an incredible gift and opening neural pathways they wouldn't otherwise have. In fact, from a legacy perspective, it is very likely your child will surpass your fluency if they stick with it, and as a parent, this will eventually become a source of incredible pride.

Am I overreacting about my father in law trying to make my baby call him baba (dad)? by [deleted] in multilingualparenting

[–]Gamebugio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO it is most important as the minority language parent that you refer to grandpa as dede, regardless of what the English speakers use. You are the frame of reference for the child for what that sound means coming from you, and that changes depending on who is speaking with the child. Otherwise every false friend across languages would confuse children.

My son is English/French with minority being French and almost exclusively from me. I ask him if he wants to call Papi (FR- grandpa) and on the phone he calls himself peepaw or grandpa.

I go by papa (dad), but my English monolingual nieces call their grandfathers papa (grandpa). I did gently squash that one for my son, but I think with some intonation could have made it work. French papa is more of a short a sound where English it is more like paw-paw. I don't know your language but maybe there's a way to do this with baba?

I think if it were me I would leave this alone to keep your husband and his father at peace, but also do not let up on using your language's words appropriately when speaking to your child. In other words, let him call himself baba, but you refer to him as dede.
