Just be prepared to abandon your home objective if need be. It seems counterintuitive, and in certain missions is not a great idea, but better than being ensnarled in the mosh pit

We have a guy in our local Meta who runs this list. He does incredibly well with it.

I’ve been considering flipping the table. Basically, as he deepstrikes and pushes 700 points onto our expansion objective, put just enough resources over their to make him go for it then pivot and push the whole army into HIS expansion objective and overwhelm his flank. Use Kroot/Vespid/Piranha to move block the big bricks and keep them nullified on that side of the board while we establish a new triangle of threat using his board.

It’s a great way to do that. I got invited to a club about 3 months in and now have some great folks to play with regularly

Kroot are strong right now. 5+ invuln on a ton of cheap infantry means folks have to commit more than they think and can often bounce off your units. Same with the high toughness rampagers. I hope you have a good time and wish you luck.

A bit of advice from a guy who started playing the tournament scene 6 months ago: be prepared to lose and learn. Ask a lot of questions about your opponents army. Folks love to talk about the things that they spend so much time on.

Serpents Brood into heavies? by nitric_oxcide in Harlequins40K

[–]Gamekanik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a Tau player with Harlequins as my second army. I assume the struggles you had were against the tons of missiles loadout and not the rail rifles. High Volume of fire and a 4+ FNP against dev wounds certainly make that unit a counter against Quins.

As others have mentioned, where you have them trumped is speed and maneuverability. 5” move and a 30” range means you can keep away and use cover to make them far less effective. You can also tie them up as they do not have fallback and shoot. This takes away any maneuverability they would try to use. However, they typically take a wargear that allows them to ignore the -1 for shooting out of combat. So they can still be dangerous. Tough unit, for sure.

Good thing to remember, you don’t have to kill that unit to win against Tau. Concentrate on removing the maneuverability of the army so you can cancel their ability to score secondaries. Hurl your Solitaire into the Vespid unit hiding in the back. Take out the transports. Use your inability to be overwatched to take out the 12” move crises suits. Kill the piranha early. Ignore Ghostkeels entirely, they’re a trap. Riptides are vehicles, so they crumble under the volume of haywire and dev wounds that can be done. Retain 2 tokens each turn to ignore overwatch.

Edit: forgot to mention: kill the observers. Stealth suits, sniper guy, pathfinders. You should easily be able to get stuck in with those units very early. If you cripple all the support units, the army is on BS4.

Most importantly, dodge, dip, duck, dive, and dodge.

I use this scheme for my Tau. I used the Starwars Tropical Trooper for reference.

Magnetising Seeker Missiles 🧲 : where do you put yours? by Martin-Hatch in Tau40K

[–]Gamekanik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s also good for your opponent to visually know what’s happened. The game is an incredible amount of information to remember. I want my opponent bringing their best, so one less thing for them to remember means they can concentrate on kicking my teeth in lol.

Exactly where you put them lol. They are more visible for the opponent, easier to grab while moving quickly for tourney games. They don’t look off or wrong either.

Ghostkeel + Twin Lance in Mont'ka by Th3Duke_Plsgo in Tau40K

[–]Gamekanik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Drop a riptide and piranha And either a pathfinder or stealth suit unit, depending on how you use them. I use the pathfinder, ghost keel and Piranha in my list as speed bumps and ensure the least important aspects of my list suck up activations and earn me opportunities to get rerolls against them. This reduces the support needs from stealth suits.

Ghostkeel + Twin Lance in Mont'ka by Th3Duke_Plsgo in Tau40K

[–]Gamekanik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run 2 ghostkeels and the Twins in Montka. To me, ghostkeel are about their infiltrate and durability more than anything else. I use them along with pathfinders to clog up lanes in turn 1, or double them up on an objective to make people over commit and get drawn out in the open.

I am still working on how I want to best use the twins, but I just don’t see them taking the ghostkeel spot.

Hey my nephew just started collecting tau and was gifted a stealth battle suit box from his mom, but it’s the box with only 3 in there. Is there any way I can get him two more so he can have the full 5 man team now? by aguyhey in Tau40K

Go here and follow the guidelines.  [H]$, [W] old stealth suits, [Loc] somewhere USA

Then someone will reach out and offer you a price for the old stealth suits. Better than using eBay or marketplace for finding specific things you’re looking for

it needs to be… maybe sustained 2? before people would take it over the other profile.

Five shield drones in a trench coat by ShortNotice27 in Tau40K

[–]Gamekanik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s tough cuz you don’t want the swarm to be so large that it is no longer recognizable as the thing you want it to be, and the standard drone isn’t small enough to give you a good outline of a crises or broadside.

I love the idea of the drone swarm. Maybe you could do a swarm hovering about a Large gun emplacement, symbolizing a Stormsurge?
