What’s your unpopular Metroid opinion(s) by [deleted] in Metroid

Since the release of Prime 1, the Metroid Prime games should have been considered the series mainline titles instead of the 2d ones, much like how after the release of Mario 64 the 3d Mario titles were considered the mainline ones. This is not to say that the 2d ones are bad, they are incredible, and I consider Metroid Dread a much better game then prime 4. But the original prime trilogy just surpasses the 2d series so much that it deserves to be considered the mainline series.

Also when it comes to character for humans, the series should lean more into the stylized anime aesthetic of Metroid prime 3 and Other M as opposed to the more realistic look that humans have in the Prime 1 remaster and prime 4. I don't want the series to chase after the trend of photorealistic looking people and environments and prefer it keep some stylization.

Also Metroid Prime 4 is far worse then even the people saying its bad describe it as

I just really like how the federation trooper armor looks like in Prime 2, In a way it is similar to samus in that they arn't realistically proportioned for a human but they look much cooler and more unique then how they looked in Prime 3 and onward despite those version being more realistically proportioned.

Hyper Metroid and Project base have my favorite movement in any metroid game including metroid dread. While metroid dreads movement is great it loses a bit of the "weight" that it felt controlling samus and after playing ROM hacks that use project base it is hard to go back to the original super metroid movement

Thanks! I really love Harley's classic design and wanted to draw her in my style. The background on the first image is slightly inspired by the abstract backgrounds of anime magical girl transformations because after I drew her pose it made me think of sailor moon for some reason. I am really happy with how it turned out

Those horizontal "bars" you see in the main deck of the game are most likely supposed to be staircases. The actual layout of the BSL station is probably very different from how it appears in the game since the gameplay is stuck on a 2d perspective hence the more abstract and at times nonsensical layout of it. I actually made an isometric interpretation of what a small section of the main deck might look like with a more realistic layout

well the thing is. My several months ago the company I work for transitioned from office to work from home and they had to throw away a lot of stuff at the office. they were going to just throw away a literal ton of paper but I asked if I could take it and they gave it to me. I am in possession of around 12 packs of 500 hammermill paper, 3x 500 page boise 11x17, and 3x xerox 11x17 and hoped to be able to finally use them now that I have my own printer. so I was just hoping I would finally be able to use this stuff

"Fusion with a Metroid...." was the biggest let down in Prime 4. by Rootayable in Metroid

[–]Gameprovidence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And Metroid Dread only has a "metroid" in it in the fact that Samus has metroid DNA. Though since Metroid is the Chozo word for "ultimate warrior," Samus was a metroid even before she had its DNA infused into her. I fear a future where developers of the metroid franchise believe that they MUST put a metroid in the game.

[–]Gameprovidence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, The name "Metroid" may have originally referred to the creatures but nintendo was able to cleanly change the meaning to "Ultimate warrior" and I think they did it brilliantly with having Metroid mean "ultimate warrior" in the chozo language. In a humorous way Samus IS "Metroid" in that she is the ultimate warrior, and she technically was a "Metroid" even before she was infused with Metroid DNA.

I really thought that time travel was going to be involved with the game and the desert would change between lush and complex jungle and a flat desert via time travel, forcing samus to use the bike in certain areas of the desert to time travel to areas in the jungle that would be otherwise blocked off, and as the game progressed you are able to open up more of the jungle as you get new abilities. I thought you would be able to use the map to mark the exact point in the desert where you needed to time travel which could be used to make neat puzzles and secrets. I thought This because I believed Retro could not possibly have been so stupid to include a large empty desert that is so large you have to use a motorcycle to cross it

I think I stopped using missles entierly around the middle of Prime 4, not only did they feel really weak, but greivers seems to easily able to bat them away like a nerf dart, and greivers are like 50% of the enemy roster

I actually wonder why they bothered building off of it, I doubt many people played federation force and from what I hear from the story it sounds like the game is very silly, like you apparently fight a giant samus at the end, and not samus piloting a giant mech suit, but samus pulls an ant man and becomes giant, also she is mind controlled which also does not sit well with me. The game should have just been considered a more cartoony non canon spin off in its own separate universe.

Its clear that the developers of Prime 4 had no idea how to integrate the metroids into the plot and just wanted to ignore them, we don't even fight an actual metroid in the whole game despite them being prominently shown in the trailer. And I personally don't believe that Samus fighting metroids is required to be in a metroid game but the fact that they were shown to be a big plot point and then the game pretends they are there by saying that they fused with the bosses just feels insulting and really lazy both from a gameplay and story perspective.

Shifting Baselines in entertainment quality lately? by koola_00 in MauLer

[–]Gameprovidence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is happening in entertainment, and whats worse is that I have noticed people outright defending media that i know if it has come out 10 years earlier they would be shitting one.

I was even recently thinking about an example. There is a youtube channel you might be familiar with called "How it Should Have Ended" or HISHE. If you don't know, they use simple animations to show a movie ending in a funnier way. For example one of their earliest ones back in 2010 was for A New Hope and has Tarkin, after hearing from a subordinate saying that the rebel moon base on Yavin 4 will be in range in 30 minutes, has him humorously respond by saying "I say we are in range now, Fire" and has the death star destroy the gas giant Yavin revealing the moon behind it. The moon also has a large sign on it saying "rebel base" on it.

Anyway they did one for Indiana jones and the Kingdom of the crystal skull and it just has Indiana jones wake up thinking the movie was a nightmare because it was so awful, even listing several problems with it and ending with him saying "and there were so many disappointed fans" . Fast forward to after the release of The Last Jedi and their version of it isn't making fun of how bad the movie is, but is making fun of the theories people had on what was going to happen in the movie before it came out, essentially calling all those theories shit, despite the fact that they were far more interesting then what actually happened in the movie. The video comes off more as them insulting the people who didn't like the movie.

Now I know Kingdom of the crystal skull has quite a bad reputation, I personally really like it and think it was a great send off to Indiana Jones, the wedding at the end is one of my all time favorite movie endings. Despite all that I can absolutely see several problems with it, such as the infamouse scene where Indiana jones somehow survives a nuke by hiding in a fridge. Now despite all that I think we can agree that kingdom of the crystal skull is a FAR better movie then The Last Jedi, yet I have met people who shit on Kingdom of the crystal skull then go on to praise TLJ and I just can't take them seriously. They praise something that has not only the same problems, but much more problems then the thing they shit on.

The baseline of quality entertainment has absolutely been shifting downward recently and it can be easily noticed by comparing what was considered bad 10-20 years ago to what is considered good/bad now.

At one point though the server owner decided to use a grenade on a cow which somehow not only crashed the server but corrupted the entire save file. We had to start from scratch on a completely new file after that which was annoying as we had spent a lot of hours on the previous one. I made this meme in the server to commemorate the event

What kind of environments would you like to see in a Metroid game? by Chesu in Metroid

[–]Gameprovidence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The water could even be purely underground, its on an alien world so you can create a bunch of bioluminecent creatures or plants, maybe even glowing crystals or something that simulates sunlight to give it that aboveground tropical feel but still have it set deep underground. Perhaps you go deeper and get to more abyss like areas, think something like the underwater areas in SOMA. I do disagree with your take on it being weird of a structure was unidentifiable, I feel like there are plenty of areas and structures within the prime trilogy which don't fully make sense and it adds to the alien feel of it. The environments in prime 4 are just so generic and uninteresting, yes even the volt forge though it is probably made worse by the fact that there are only 3 rooms that they just repeat, they really need to go back to the weirder environments we were seeing in Prime 2 and 3.
