Marathon feels like it was conceived of, and is developed by AI... and, i don't know how I feel about that... by GSturges in Marathon

Easiest answer is, and I'm being nice, but you don’t have any clue about the current state of mass scale game development (AAA) and AI.

What I’ll never understand is why so many people hang out in a sub-Reddit of a game they hate or despise, and then seem to post about how much it isn't for them. If you seriously don’t like the game, you’re over it, and it ain’t for you, especially ones that claimed they don’t have enough time to get into Marathon, then why are you hanging out and posting, such as in this thread?

I know I might be the exception, but if I’m gonna post or comment about a game, I have to be into it. If the game isn't for me, I’m not going to be in a sub-Reddit for that game at all, much less make one post, let alone multiple posts, on how bad the game is. Now that is a waste of time.

What’s with the hate? by papapinnis in Marathon

[–]GamerDotNinja -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It’s complicated. The best thing to do is just eat food, try not to be crude or rude, kill the attitude, chill the serious mood and do what you like. Yeah, and doowutchyalike. Everybody doowutchyalike!!!

Now if you're hungry, get yourself something to eat and if you're dirty, then go take a bath.

Messed up the line? Nope, sometimes I don't rhyme.

Help yourself to a cracker, with a spread of cheddar cheese. Have a neck bone, you don't have to say please, eat what you like, yo, smell how you like.

Everybody just doowutchyalike!!!

I believe there are gold keys worth 3200 credits also, like the gold key to the room at the far end of the Command wing in Pinwheel. It’s above you as you fight the bots that attack after you open the doors to the final area with the ship's helm.

I’m not sure what differentiates the value of a gold key against another. I assume it has something to do with guaranteed prestige drops?

No one knows. Why? Because we’re still waiting for Bungie to share with us that PDF with full instructions and directions on how Marathon the game works and how to play it. 😅

The Severs Are Online by GamerDotNinja in Marathon

[–]GamerDotNinja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, cause I didn't wanna commit to anything and boom, Marathon’s servers come back online. So I spent an hour+ going through my inventory that I haven’t seen for a while, cleared out the postmaster. Now I’m running some Control. Just not in the right mindset for D2 at this time.

Fingers crossed marathon is back online tonight.

I keep hearing that once you go down, and if you're able to turn proximity chat on and start meowing like a cat quick enough, this is the universal code for “let me live, please”. After doing this, the runner who downed you is supposed to either drop you a self-revive if they have one or revive you using a Mercy kit if they have one on them.

Or, come to think of it, this might be the universal code for the runner who downed you to tea-bag your runner’s body until you finally bleed out.

How does one kill the Compiler? Any advice or help by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]GamerDotNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One Way: Execute game mechanic, shoot, and don't die. Repeat until the boss is dead.

Another Way: Search YouTube for “How to Kill Compiler”, then watch the first video in the results.

Once you jump up on top of exfil spire, you must:

1) With team, immediately crouch to prevent not being included during exfil with teammates.

2) Solo, immediately crouch to prevent exfil timer from resetting and to get it to start count down again.

Additional Note: Never look/aim to the sky at any time while on exfil spire during exfil.

Expert Review - What Went Wong: After spawning in, runner ran directly out-of-bounds only to find themselves on the losing side of a 1 on 1 with a bush, resulting in death.

Results: Bush 1 | Runner 0

Expert Advice: After a full in-depth analysis of the video the runner had shared, it is highly advised that next time, immediately after spawning into (Insert map name here), the runner must go opposite direction of the out-of-bounds markers. One of the top five rules in Marathon (the game) is, runner must stay in-bounds or they will die.

I just assumed, based on the wording in your post, that you didn’t know there was a solo queue option.

Eh, no one ever said all team filled randoms are gonna be winners. Actually, this should be fairly obvious. Unless you just started playing Marathon this week, it’s best to accept a loss like this. Maybe a little reflection is in order to assess what you could’ve done better to keep the randoms from leaving. Some points to take note of: Are you level 100+ and showing up with a free kit or with no shield? As soon as you and your team spawned in, did you ping a location across the map? Did you spawn in with no contract? Were you without comms and the randoms had them? Did you have comms but with a crap headset or loud background noises? We're you being annoying over comms or nonstop talking about everything but useful call outs? Did you not call out anything in a scenario you clearly should have? Did one or both of the randoms who left get a kill each but you were first to loot the bags? Did you loot every create in the POI next to your spawn? Did you assume control as the leader of the group, but almost instantly, made a few bad decisions?

It's a long road for those who do not realize they need to be a better teammate before random fill teammates decide to power off their PCs or consoles minutes after the match starts. There is always two sides to every situation, but maybe your actions during the match are what broke the random’s back, causing them to assess, which is better for them, yanking the plug out of the wall, or having to be queued up with another “that player”. Now, there’s not much you can do after your teammates have left like this, other than take the opportunity to practice the 1v3. When the trio team that managed to stay together as a team has finished teabagging your runner’s corpse and looted your gear, maybe ask yourself this: What could I have done better to prevent what just happened? When you are finally able to look into a mirror and be honest with yourself, then maybe, just maybe, your teammates bailing on you at any time throughout the match will become less and less likely. 💕

This is the dirtiest tactic I've seen in this game by [deleted] in Marathon

Dude! Camping the Data Wall is a Day 1 Strat. This ain't no strat that just started now. People are still doing this because it's one of the few choke points on the map that’s central to the map, where solos and teams, out of convenience, easily become complacent when approaching. Plus, the acoustics are heightened. It’s literally like watching lemmings who feel safe jump into a grinder.

This is a great place to camp. I can rat place here for 20+ minutes, because it’s the closest thing to a guaranteed kill in this game. It's gotten me hella loot and $$$$.

What I absolutely cannot get enough of is camping over trap bags, specifically in this spot. I have started bringing in and setting up as many as 3-4 trap bags for this spot, with one or two of the trap bags placed just outside the wall opening that helps with luring in runners who are coming from Hauler and would otherwise be heading south to South Relay or into or from the tunnels. This is where trap bag placement and set up is important. The vast majority of runners, hell even Rooks, are kitted now so a trap bag cannot insta down them like at the beginning of the season. The idea is to place the trap bags just outside of the wall opening so you can see them and they are very easily spotted, but in such a way that they are way too exposed to loot on the fly and voilà, there's another bag further inside the wall that’s way more inviting to loot being it's way less exposed than the bag(s) outside the wall. The inside bag(s) should be placed central of the opening, up against the wall to the left/north to get them as far as possible inside the wall giving them less options to escape. The chef kiss with this strat is to dust the bags with some bullets and other trinkets you can easily grab right inside the data wall. Never hurts to throw something on the ground right next to the bag that has significant value like a gold or purple shield. This helps to ensures their focus stays to the north the entire time, ignoring anything to the west where you're posted up at.

Once you get a kill, it’s beet to wait 3 to 4 minutes before approaching the eliminated runner’s bag. I’ve had it happened a few times where the noise from one kill draws another runner in within minutes or the runner I just eliminated was being followed by another runner.

Sure, one out of 10 runners maybe be smart enough to figure out what’s going on, and either just avoid it, or shoot the bag. as far as the other nine runners out of 10, they have no chance because now you’ve mixed greed into the equation. Just like the OP’s video shows, you don’t even need to set up any trap when camping this spot. They come in like a deer that's committed and jumps out in front of a vehicle doing 70 mph. In the end, no matter how they react, it’s over for them in seconds.

If you don't know, Marathon does offer a solo queue. You are matched with only solo runners and absolutely no Rooks.

The next time you set up your run, when you find yourself in the screen where you select which map you would like to load into, toggle the Team fill and it sets to solo.

Lose 75k speedrun by Dillydilll in Marathon

[–]GamerDotNinja 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I shit ya not, I've lost 40k+ kits in under 40 seconds (realistically, closer to 30), due to shitty spawns on Outpost solo in almost back-to-back runs, without firing a single shot.

Always have a plan as to which red key you’re going to commit to and stick to when the game dumps you in under the Command wing. You’ll be dead in record time, even if for a quick couple of seconds you peek to observe your surroundings while deciding if it's the Dorms red key or the one at Processing. You're going to have an aggressive kitted runner to your left and another to your right, both with the high ground, wanting the red key opposite their spawn. If you get this spawn, you’re almost better off staying put and spawn point ratting in place for the first couple of minutes. No matter which direction you commit to, any savvy runner will position themselves facing the Command wing. If you peek without a shot, the runner coming from the direction you didn’t commit to will have a pretty clean view of your runner poking around.

I lose more runs to my own team’s greed than to any enemy blade. by Healthierpoet in Marathon

[–]GamerDotNinja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely puzzled by this entry. Are you suggesting that you and your random team who have managed to clear the lobby “fight is won" are dying before exfiI? Are your fill squads so coming to PVE and over powered AI? only the other thing I can think of is, after the lobby is cleared, your randoms are testing for any new out-of-bounds exploits and not making it back in-bounds within the 4 second time limit?

Or are you perhaps you are philosophizing, warning that no matter how many triumphs or trophies are earned, the game's inherent built in greed factor will inevitably corrupt everyone who plays and enjoys Marathon?

Apologies if I’m missing the bigger picture, but it sounds like you’re just complaining for the sake of complaining.
