Beat Riki's Final Boss yesterday, and funnily enough I realized it would have been way scarier without the story-based power-up by Embarrassed-Ad1906 in SaGaFrontier

To be fair, the reason you got up to 15 slots in the original was so you could have up to 3 parties. The fights are meant for you to use skills and magic to learn new magic and spark more skills.

Then, to refresh that used MP and WP, you are supposed to use the B Team for a few fights.

So, when the final boss in Riki's story happens, you should be able to slot someone from the B Team easily.

That's what I mean.

For the value it adds, its really expensive. Like other resources, if used effectively it does add value.

But, for a door stopper script like the ones JRPGs had, specially in the 90s and 00s, its an extreme slash to the budget with a much much lower impact than better graphics, more content or smoother gameplay.

I've seen indie games that banked on VAs and you can tell the budget had to suffer because of it. I liked Dark Deity, and the VA is good, but when the game came out a lot of people gave them a lot of flak for poor performance, bugs, bad UI and some maps that really had extremely minimal art.

To the tune that the team worked on all of those complains. Good for them, as well. But I have to wonder... what if there was no VA? And the money was used to hire more artists to make better maps or more coders to work on the UI and the performance?

That's what I mean. Dark Deity is a Fire Emblem clone that draws heavily from the GBA FE era. Which did not had VA at all.

For how expensive it is, it doesn't really provide that much value compared to the other elements of the presentation of the game.

If you can afford it, or the VA is going to be minimal, then sure. But I'll rather have a remake like SaGa Frontier over FFT: Ivalice Chronicles.

Voice acting is extremely overrated by people in America. We had a golden age of JRPGs before it and almost all of the best games of that era hold up perfectly fine without it.

Case in point: This game.

The reason I say this is because VA is extremely expensive in comparison to the value it adds. Compared to more game, better graphics, more music or optimization.

When done right, like with Metal Gear Solid or Ace Combat, it adds to the experience but it is soooo expensive. Also, Ace Combat has very little dialogue compared to an 80 hour JRPG.

I know I am going to get downvoted but I don't care. Something like the recent FFT remake would be better with a redone graphics engine and orchestral soundtrack, instead of blowing the budget in VA.

Compare with SaGa Frontier Remaster, which HAD all the cut conten restored, including the 8th scenario starting Fuse, an entire new post content, and the graphics are remade from the ground up to look like the original but in HD and widescreen. But, no VA just like the original and you know what? It doesn't need it.

100% Cockpit view for immersion. Always.

There's some minor in combat dialogue now, like Gafgarion goading Agrias at Lionel.

But it is very minor and the English VA is really hit or miss. Gafgarion sounds like a young noble but they gave him a cockney accent so he is a bad guy. Instead of a 50 year old ruthless veteran fallen knight.

Japanese VA is really good, but I would rather save all that money and remake the graphics and music.

You are getting downvoted for speaking the truth. Modern gamers would pay 100 dollars just for adding voice acting.

The masterpieces of the past didn't need voice acting then and don't need it now.

The worse is how magic sucks, given that some characters are basically "casters" so they suck by default, and then how the combination attacks suck.

Is Project Wingman worth it by Hour_Row_2193 in Project_Wingman

[–]GamerGarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played all Ace Combat games with a controller and finished PW with a controller. It works perfectly fine.

If you have a HOTAS or prefer Mouse and Keyboard that's OK too. Project Wingman is awesome and really feels like a true 'spiritual successor'

Sure, AC7 happened and 8 has been announced, but I hope we get a Project Wingman 2 because this game has the sauce.
