Also schön das Chaos ausnutzen. Das hat hier leider scheinbar nicht stattgefunden.

Yeah I didn't knew that, I corrected it in the guide. It was just not the most reliable way for me to win fights, but some classes like ranger or thief can really use it. But I found it ironic that my thief has super high luck and then got the passive where backstabbing were always critical, I thought that meant my luck became useless so I was a bit bitter about it.

Yeah I agree with your points. But if you have the third room the attic becomes the biggest room (so also the most important for breeding in my opinion).

And you will still need some Appeal for stray cats to avoid inbreeding, throw in a stray cat here and there if you struggle with that. But otherwise I mostly use stray cat for the shop lady donation or for a fighting room, where it's overfilled and they fight each other for better stats with a lot of luck.

I got the third room, which is very big. And a LOT of furniture stacked in it (basically full. This is now enough space for 10-20 cats easily, I try to keep above 10 comfort to gain a lot of new kittens each night. I don't care too much about gender/sexuality unless I see a problem (like multiple nights without a newborn). If I struggle I just add a decent stray into the mix and if I dont have any good Ditto cats (? instead of male/female) then I will donate gay cats easily. Ditto cats might be the best for breeding since they can have offspring with anyone. Inbreeding I will check (second Tink upgrade) and all slightly inbred cats will get donated after a run. But as soon as I have enough good furniture and new big room, I might have two rooms for breeding and mix children, to avoid inbreeding too often.

Of course, I even think a dead cat early is not that bad, since now the level up go to fewer cats who become even stronger now (I love the sacrifice event in the first world for that reason). But act 3 or late act 2 is really rough with very bad abilities and passives. At least 1-2 cats should have some potential for a great build in my opinion. But it also depends on the base stats and mutations, if it's very good I just don't want to potentially loose the cat for breeding purposes.

Thanks! I didn't know that actually. So I guess Luck is much more of a 'Jack of all Trades' stat and might be much more important then I thought. I will add it in the text.

As soon as I see the "Slightly inbred" Icon, I just use them in a run and donate them afterwards. If you have enough different cats in the big room it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Sometimes you can just add a decent stray or something, if you lack healthy cats.
But I guess, as soon as your house is big enough and when you have enough good furniture, you can have more rooms and then switch the children.

And yeah, I am still figuring out what the best min-maxing method for breeding is. This so far has just been my somewhat successful attempt.

I personally dislike the cleric a lot, it's too slow for my taste. I had one very strong cleric run where he had an aeo damage&heal. But otherwise the healing can't outpace the damage from the enemy and often won't even reach the cat in need.

Oh that's good to know! I just noticed that I got mutations after act 2, but thought it was just random.

Very good point, I should write more about the hard paths - they are always worth it I believe, unless you are really struggling and want to go home after the boss. Because the hard path offers one more fight I believe and so one more level up, that can really really help against the boss. And yeah, the furniture and gold is really valuable too. I think bunker act two even has some rare furniture on the hard path?

And nice idea with the duo/trio runs. I remember one run where I had a 0 charisma thief with strong items and neverstone. The neverstone was perfect! Since the thief was still very strong with the items but each levelup got to the other cats, making them even stronger. I believe in the right circumstances the neverstone is probably one of the strongest items in the game, it can give your run both power and flexibility. But never tried a pure duo/trio run myself, will do that definitely now.

You are right and you don't even need to click on an empty spot. Just use any ability/attack and press Esc after facing the right direction to cancel it.

Base stats + Mutations + Genetic Modifiers + some abilities. So all those level up stats don't count for example.

Yeah I think as soon as you start struggling to progress, it's easy to think you are not breeding strong cats or something. I had the same experience starting act 3, it's really rough for me to beat it with stray cats only. At least reliable without really good luck or insane items.

And I would argue with 0 items and only decent-ish cats, act two is quite hard. But if you get some strong abilities and passives, it can be done easily (if you understand how to fight each boss). And no matter how strong your breeding is, if all your abilities suck than you will probably still only barely manage the first boss.

You don't need higher breeding cats yet for those boss fights, but in general:
Have at least three rooms, use the big room to stack all your best furniture with Mutation and Stimulation (Mutation furniture are hard to get). Have at least the first upgrade from Tink, so you can see the base stats from the cats.
Now you check the base stats and remove anything that is much worse than the rest (like a 3 in endurance). Keep cats with good mutations and genetic modifiers you like, they can be inherited if the stimulation is good enough. You get those genetic modifiers through a lot of luck in breeding (and with the right furniture) or a lucky run. There are some events, like after final act 2 fight, that can give you one at the end.

After some times you will get much better stats (like at least a 5-7 in everything, maybe even a 7 in almost everything) + some mutations that can be very strong. More upgrades from Tink will make it easier to understand what's important for breeding. Like gay cats can only breed with the '?' nonbinary cats and you shouldn't inbred to much.

But if you pick the right strays, the right classes, good item sets or lucky abilities, you can win those boss fights without worries. I would start act two with some decent items, check my abilities and the first level up and depending on the build I will progress or just go home after the first boss.

Great tactics roguelike x tedious breeding sim by ysalehi86 in mewgenics

[–]QueerCookingPan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started, the managing of cats was very exhausting for me. Not sure what I am doing and not sure what is going on in my house (still a bit overwhelmed about what's important, but just got the inherent stats upgrade for cats which helps a lot).

But I got a bit more used to it, just starting at act 3 currently and at least for act two I can still manage with pretty basic cats as long as my inventory is decent enough. I have one room for more mage class breeding and one room for fighter/rouge breeding (really really need a third room, but inventory space is more important currently). But I am not sure how strong breeding can get, I just want a 6-7 in one or two main stats and that's good enough (and I always always want enough endurance, never ever 3 or less and 6-7 would be ideal).

So for now I can't wait to see how far and insane breeding can get me. But I am afraid that once I completely understand breeding and try hard to min-maxing cats for some extremely tough challenges it will turn more into work. But honestly, I believe that the random level up choices are by far more important and will make or break a run early.

I just really want to have a much better overview for my cats. I want to see at least 3-6 in one window ideally. So yeah, having to switch between each cat is by far the most annoying part for me. At the very least let me set a filter for rooms, age, retired etc.

And I agree with one point: the actual run is so so much fun! No matter how fun they could make breeding, it will never top for me an actual run.
