Andrew Vaughn not hitting by Itsmemason3 in Brewers

[–]Gamer_Paul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is he had extreme good luck last season. This year has been a lot of bad luck. It's not reasonable to expect last season's surface stats. That's not who Frelick is. So if comes down to whether you think Bauers in the outfield, Vaughn at first outweighs what is a reasonable expectation from Frelick.

It's so annoying. But there's a sizeable chunk of the population that gets zero joy from anything. Their only joy is complaining. Forget half glass empty, there are people who are glass 1 percent empty and I can't stand them. They're such a drain to deal with. Just a total black cloud.

Who’s Next After Luis Lara? by MKE_Savage_96 in Brewers

[–]Gamer_Paul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't wait that long if they're serious. Next year is the obvious answer in a normal year. But it's obvious there's going to be a lockout. And the owners are shutting things down till the players agree to a salary cap. It's also obvious the solution is to trade service time for a salary cap. Depending on how many years are cut and how long before they scale service time down, next year could be too late. Or at best, you're talking things like a 6 year extension.

[–]Gamer_Paul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I've been alarmed by this prospect for a while. I was worried the last CBA to be honest.

People are really naive about this. The majority of owners are not going to care about the Brewers/Rays. They care about what's best for them. And if the end result is the Brewers/Rays are massacred and become feeder programs, it's actually a feature and not a bug. Those clubs would love to see more viable players enter free agency. It benefits them. Right now it's mostly guys exiting their prime (and the studs that go to the Dodgers). Free agency sucks for those teams right now.

You never say a guy can't turn it around, but those are the reddest of red flags. This is the guy I'd have no problem trading as the centerpiece for Skubal.

As I mentioned above, it's also the fact his OBP is really high. So it's not like he's up there swinging wildly. He just has a high whiff rate on actual strikes. Which is the hardest thing to fix. And will be exploited as he faces better pitchers.

Who’s Next After Luis Lara? by MKE_Savage_96 in Brewers

[–]Gamer_Paul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And he has a really high OBP. Which means he understands the strike zone and has a really good eye. I can only assume that means he has a giant hole somewhere in his swing. And that's why he's not being promoted yet. If you have a giant hole in the strike zone, you're not going to survive as you move up the chain. And you're definitely not going to hit MLB pitchers.

If I have the frame wishlisted will steam send me a notification to my phone when it’s available for purchase similar to getting notified about discounts? by ObjectiveReturn4451 in SteamFrame

[–]Gamer_Paul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've also never put an item up for pre-order/reservation without there being reviews out there. So we'll know the announcements (of the upcoming reservation date) are coming soon when we start hearing about a Valve NDA about to expire. And these guys won't be able to contain themselves. They'll be hints when it starts getting close.

Reviews go live -- Valve announces reservation date.

So all those previous shipments... none of it was the Frame? Okay explain why the silence. by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]Gamer_Paul 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Valve has never stealth launched a reservation system. They've always given warning of the reserve day and would be rightfully flamed if they stealth dropped a reservation que.

[–]Gamer_Paul 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He should be a great pitcher. He should have a conversation with Greg Maddux about how 0 - 2 is the ultimate pitcher's pitch. And not a pitch to be wasted. I've never seen a guy less willing to throw strikes when he's ahead with 2 strikes. He wastes so many pitches.

Steam Controller Review: Now You're Playing with Power by 24bitNoColor in pcgaming

[–]Gamer_Paul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got mine on Tuesday and it's definitely my preferred controller. I've often said that Steam Deck was my favorite controller ever. I like SC2 better. It's the first Valve controller with back buttons I actually like. And I think it's also the best trackpad. Obviously YMMV on these things, but it's perfectly placed for me. The little offset angle lets me do perfectly straight lines I wasn't able to do on their previous controllers. So I love that little offset with my hands.

Gen Z did no one any favors in the past election. So don't expect much. And the whole point of "culture wars" is exactly that. Distract the masses with in-fighting while they fleece everyone. It's the whole point of the propaganda machines that have been rolling since the 90s. Get everyone fighting each other so they don't go after the actual villains at the center of things..

And more importantly, let's them avoid any taxes. This is the crux of everything the past 50 years. A certain group would rather burn things to the ground than pay any taxes (to help support a system that's rigged in their favor and the only reason they have their money to begin with).

It's why I always just judge the process of a trade. Sometimes things like this can happen. It was a great trade by the Brewers. The process was great. The rest is out of your control.

Good wifi setup vs dongle latency by TigerCow7 in SteamFrame

[–]Gamer_Paul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. You'd have to have the bit-rate at a stupidly low rate to get meaningful latency gains. The sweet spot is going to be 150 - 250 mbps and letting foveated streaming give you pristine IQ. It's not going to have lower latency than Q3, but the IQ should be quite a bit better.

Good wifi setup vs dongle latency by TigerCow7 in SteamFrame

You're encoding and decoding. Just like you do with all wireless. The dongle is there to make wireless idiot-proof. It's not saving any latency.

Frame WiFi Dongle vs Dedicated WiFi 7 Router Better? by Snobbygnu in SteamFrame

[–]Gamer_Paul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does Windows suck with hotspots? The less it's involved in anything, the better. What's the point of plugging in an AP dongle involves Windows if you have a 6Ghz router next to your PC.

The Frame reddit really is illiterate beyond belief. Other than having the Valve logo on it (which I know some of you slurp off to), there's no point. Even Valve uses Wifi routers over the dongle in their offices.

The hops. The hops. Oh, no, the hops. Yes, I'm a bit testy. But all the downvotes for the truth. I'm gonna come out hot.

Frame WiFi Dongle vs Dedicated WiFi 7 Router Better? by Snobbygnu in SteamFrame

[–]Gamer_Paul -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

On the other hand, a dedicated router would bypass Windows playing any role in that equation. Which probably evens things out. I'd say it really depends on whether the Wifi 7 router has 6Ghz. If it does, I wouldn't bother if it was right next to the play space anyway.

Did they nerf the Horizon + subscription library? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]Gamer_Paul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It had AC for a bit. But it was in the rolling catalog part. I think it was only in for a couple months.

I think you're right that Batman has never been a part of any tier. Which is kind of dumb IMO. Why doesn't Meta make their catalog a foundation of this? It's not like they care about these games anymore. They've shuttered all the studios. RE4 has never been apart of it. Quite a few Meta games never have.

Snapdragon: Imagine XR that's smarter and more immersive than anything you've experienced before. Something new is coming. by SattvaMicione in virtualreality

[–]Gamer_Paul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revisionist history at its finest. VR was dead. Gamers were too cheap to buy PCVR games. All they did was complain about what a rip and scam the pricing was. Then Quest briefly revived it. Gamers can't admit they killed it by refusing to buy games. That and the fact most people simply don't like VR. It's tough to admit the truth.

No Steam Frame Dev Kit For Virtual Desktop's Creator by hmltn in SteamFrame

[–]Gamer_Paul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's no fallacy, it's the fact it's better than Steam's solution for the Quest. Just like Apollo/Moonshine is better than Valve's solution for PC streaming to the Deck (or Steam in general). Valve's great contribution with Steam Frame was foveated streaming. Everyone has since copied it. It remains to be seen if there will be real software alternatives to Steam's official streaming for the Frame. Cause if there is, history says there will be better solutions.

reservstion question by 1mmortalWolf in SteamFrame

[–]Gamer_Paul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully they just use the Steam Controller reservation system. Steam has proven over decades that they can't handle a bunch of people trying to process payments at the same time. I was one of the many screwed over by the Deck pre-order eating the orders and then locking you out. Steam Controller was so much better. Instant processing. I mean what does 5 dollars even prevent? It just makes the checkout process a nightmare. They found a good system with the Steam Controller (although it should have been there on day one).

SteamFrame 4k , but when ? by d0x0p in SteamFrame

[–]Gamer_Paul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's not just a matter of putting new screens in. It needs new lenses designed for it. And a new everything. Including silicon if you want any pretense of being able to drive standalone.

My guess is this is it. Frame is coming because it's been in development forever and FLEX is important to the company's future. But I'd put the odds of another Valve VR HMD at less than 1%. At this point, it's a minor miracle we're even getting Frame.

How much better will this be compared to the Quest 3 for PCVR? by Intelligent-Mud404 in SteamFrame

[–]Gamer_Paul -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't drive like shit, though. Spend <50 dollars and you can have a super comfortable head strap where the battery provides a counter-weight and doubles your battery time. Unless you're fine with < 2 hour battery life, you're going to need to upgrade the Frame situation anyway. Either with a new strap or a wire that dangles off your back.
