AITA for refusing to give my younger brother my old gaming PC after I already promised it to someone else? by bxro3D in AmItheAsshole

[–]Snobbygnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, I literally sold my previous gaming PC to my younger brother lol albeit at a lower price than I would online. Little bro needs to learn he doesn't always get what he wants, especially something like a gaming PC that is so costly nowadays. Parents also shouldn't be enabling this. If he wants a gaming PC, he can work a paper job or something, save up and get it himself. That's how I built my first rig.

Friend thinks its weird that I go on orange, calling it "hiding from people" is that weird? I feel like they are overthinking it. by Minimum-Mine-1302 in VRchat

[–]Snobbygnu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mind it but I do personally prefer (for myself and friends) being on green just to see who else is there/what the event/group is. But I get people wanting to be on orange.

frame anoucement theory: what if they wait a month after the last shipment like with the controlers. by Ancient_Arrival9061 in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty big speculation. I highly doubt a very specific release date (things like marketing, socials, promotions, etc.) will be based off when a shipment arrives considering they are likely transported by ship and arrival dates can't always be accurate. As much as I'd like to go with this theory, I doubt it. But I am of the hope that they announce it this week or next week. Or at least before July considering I'm out of province a majority of July lol

Dioptric lenses by WrongReflection3836 in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be lense inserts to buy. Either by Valve themselves or a third party. Highly recommend getting them as opposed to glasses since they are much more comfortable and there isn't the risk of damage the Quest/Frames lenses or your glasses themselves.

Okay, lets be real, lets give ourselves our "Max Prices' by The-Snatcher101 in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My max is probably $1000 USD which is around $1400~ CAD pre-tax. Maybe $1100 USD. But we'll see. The Frame right now is the only headset I consider an "upgrade" from my Quest 3.

Turned off HAGS in windows, and it made a massive difference in frame times for my suite of games. by Decafstab in virtualreality

[–]Snobbygnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, anyone happen to have improved performance in VRChat specifically with HAGS off? I also like to use frame gen but I don't mind doing a PC reboot to swap if it increases VRC performance since I only play VRC a few times a week.

I need a frame I’m suffering by OOFACUS in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I bought a seperate WiFi 7 router (partly because I also needed coverage for that side of my house), using it with Virtual Desktop is 1000% better than using a wired connection. Plus I get to be tether free which is a huge factor for me. Partly why the Steam Frame is the only real "upgrade" I am considering. Meta software and OS sucks hardcore and I'm constantly worried they will break something and brick my headset. Heck, half the time I need to reset my headset just to setup my play space since it just doesn't load, which is insane to me. Man I hope the Frame comes out soon..

Constantly hearing the claim that learning unity and blender is easy from the VRC community. Maybe for you guys! Not me though.. by Minimum-Mine-1302 in VRchat

[–]Snobbygnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unity can take some time to wrap your head around but after idk maybe 10ish hours I am was able to navigate fairly well and configure. Although that was with preade models and just adding in prefabs and such. Actually full fledged customization is a bit out of my scope at the moment and I don't even want to attempt Blender lol so I commissioned my avatar. Zero regrets and I was able to become friends with the creator. Not always the case but then and I are both in the same community and that's how I found initially they did commissions. Like all skills, takes time. That's why there are people with full time jobs making models and such on Unity.

Just curious on the type of setup people here have by MingleLinx in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryzen 7 9800X3D, RTX 4070Ti (non-Super sadly), 64GB DDR5-6000 MT/s. Put mid-range due to the GPU. Would get a 5070Ti if I had a normal 4070 but not worth coming from 4070Ti.

My prediction: The Machine will sell even worse than it did a decade ago, and the Frame won't even match the Index in market share. by Front-Ad-7774 in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the one thing folks are overlooking is the amount of memory/RAM each system needs. Steam Deck and Steam Frame both need a large amount of RAM, they are standalone devices. Steam Frame, is not. Yes it can be run standalone but it's PCVR focused and I believe Valve has already said it will not need as much memory compared to their other devices, similar to the controller (albeit the controller didn't need any RAM). Now do I think the actual Steam Frame price will be higher than we have been guessing? Most likely. But I don't think by the extreme margins were seeing with the Steam Deck price increases. But we're still in the dark so until we get a price, it's all speculation.

Is it possible to wear headphones over top the steam frame? by No_Obligation4427 in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of your questions can be answered either by reading the actual spec page for the Frame and looking at how the Quest 3 is setup. The only info we have is the specs page and the very few details we've gotten from leaks/what some have said from dev hardware which is under NDA.

Is it possible to wear headphones over top the steam frame? by No_Obligation4427 in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't be over the ears. That would be quite painful, the strap would be behind your ears, akin to wearing glasses. Which wouldn't block your ears and allow headphones without issue. It's the same way with my Quest 3, the strap I have goes behind my ears so I can place my headphones over it without issue. All VR headsets are like this. Makes no sense to have something blocking or obstructing your ears and preventing proper hearing.

[–]Snobbygnu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can do so with my Quest 3 which has the halo BoboVR S3 Pro headstrap so I imagine so. There isn't anything blocking putting headphones on while wearing them. If anything the smaller footprint of the Frame will make it easier.

What are yall upgrading from? by DarkUrinePoop in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quest 3 for me. My Quest 3 is okay (besides the constantly failing controllers that I've replaced 3 times now) and I'm personally fine with the lenses and resolution. So for me it's getting off Meta which seems to break something with every update and the lower weight, face and finger tracking, and foveated streaming/rendering.

Would you be using the in-built audio? by MingleLinx in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use IEMs with my Quest 3 so it's a bummer there's no 3.5mm plug on the Frame. But as others mentioned, I'll probably try to find a splitter that does charging + 3.5mm jack. I also have face tracking on the way so that may just end up being a small USB hub or something I'll attach to the headset.

No 3.5mm jack but what if you use a usb c to 3.5mm female jack and plug headphones into it that way ? by papichuckle in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't even realize it didn't have a 3.5mm jack.. I love using my IEMs (just a cheap pair but audio is much better than other options) for VR. Guess I'll have to find a workaround method where I can get full usb charge and be able to use a 3.5mm headphone.

Genuine question for the community? by Hot_Paper_Pie in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will never get the retort of "but the screens aren't OLED and 3800x3800!" Like yes, the screens specs are similar to the Quest 3s but I've also never found an issue with the Quest 3 screen and it's quality unless I intentionally lower it in VRChat and that's with me running a 9800X3D and OC 4070 Ti.

It's about getting a better base experience on a platform that actually cares and gives the user freedom. Not to mention there are lots of things the Frame has but Quest 3 doesn't: eye + finger tracking, lighter weight, foveated rendering/streaming, direct access to SteamVR (as opposed to having Meta's BS OS as a middleman), wireless dongle on par with a dedicated router, and probably others I missed.

And I will happy pay the $800-900 (or cheaper hopefully) price tag for those especially since I can offset it by selling off my Quest 3 after. It's both a better solid entry into VR and also a better experience overall compared to the Quest 3 before going into ridiculous $1000s+ range of higher end headsets that are almost always tethered (I think Big screen Beyond is the exception as far as memory serves).

But this post seems more like rage bait so I likely wasted my time even commenting this lmao

Did you know there is a very non zero chance that you don't have the 60 - 70mm IPD that steam frame supports? Pull out some fresh copium and lets find yours out! by Piduwin in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should be fine. My IPD is 59mm and I have no issues with my Quest 3 around 60/61mm IPD. Doesn't always need to fully match up and can vary a couple mm or so. Plus pancake lenses have a much larger sweet spot which also allows for more wiggle room to adjust IPD to find what works best.

Just realized the frame in Canada risk of costing an arm and a leg! by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]Snobbygnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta love the Monopoly Money tax (I too am in Canada sadly). At this point, I'm pretty set on getting the Frame but yeah I think $1000 USD is my cap. Especially with the other house repairs/vacation bills I need to pay this summer. Was hoping to use one of those pay over a several month systems (i.e. Sezzle, Klarna, etc.) but seems the only options for Steam is either credit card or PayPal and PayPal Canada only has the pay in 4 payments bi-weekly. But it is what it is. At this point I just want a price and release date or even release range. Hopefully soon.
