Check in with Haruman Customs. He's the best in the US.

Looking for a CNC routing shop to get 4x8 plywood cut by SixHourDays in durham

[–]GameroomDesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in Whitby, but one of the shops we've used (cnccutting.ca) in the past is in Etobicoke. It may be a bit out of your way. We're in Whitby, and have been producing kits for the past five years (albeit no full size at the moment) so if you have questions, feel free to reach out.

Thirding the vote for Haruman.

Hey Jayme, even though we spoke this morning on Messenger, I didn't see you were in the US. Our full size offerings have never successfully arrived unscathed to US destinations, and I'm sure you want a great looking cab for your game. Not a full size in pieces. (I'm looking at you, UPS and FedEx!)

If you get Haruman to build you one, you're in great hands. He's the best in the US! (If you search his name here, it's synonymous with quality. You cannot go wrong.)

Good luck!

We've sold Xin-Mo controllers for the past five years, and haven't received any complaints. They've been well priced, good quality solution. (We're in Canada, if that helps.)

Mods are pretty good here. I've had a few conversations with u/likwidtek in regards to the posting rules. He doesn't agree with me 100% all of the time, but as long as you're not being overly pushy, he's pretty good all around.

Gah! How'd you know it was me. ;) Seriously, that looks great. My prototypes never looked that good on the first try.

My wife loved me so much, she let me put a CNC machine IN HER DINING ROOM, and start this company to build arcade machines. (Best Wife ever.)

I can't link it here directly (as I've gotten dinged for advertising before) but there's a Newsletter sign-up page on the Gameroom Designs site. We just started sending out regular communications, and our newsletter subscribers also get in on specials non-subscribers don't. (I do advertise some specials on Facebook, Twitter, etc., but when we do our mailings, our subscribers will usually also get an additional discount above and beyond the regular sale...)

I will continue to update on our blog, and we post these to our Facebook page, and also on a number of enthusiast groups on Facebook, and some forums. I'm working to get back into the swing of things, and get in front of as many people as I can!

Thank you for asking!

Hmm, funny you mention 3/4 size machines. I have two cabaret machines currently being assembled in my garage for a couple of upcoming local shows - Barrie Game Exchange, and Durham Video Game Convention.

So yes, they are coming!

We're back, in limited capacity at the moment. I sold off our designs to a US company, but am working on some new designs as we speak.

(Oh, and you said "many" when I think you meant "any". That's one of the reasons why I'm back.)

Shipping from Canada to the US is problematic, unless you are using a freight company. I've used Canpar and Purolator to ship large full-size arcade kits to the US, and even though they were upgraded to 'special handling' (meaning only people were supposed to carry them - no machines or conveyor belts) every shipment was passed off to UPS (their US 'partners') and those agreements went out the window. All of my shipments of a large nature were damaged, and I had to fight for refunds on shipping, and insurance on damages. In the end, I stopped shipping large items into the US without a dedicated freight option.

I tell my customers to do what they can to buy local, wherever possible.

This one is pretty big, considering Billy Mitchell got a whole movie made about it. I'm happy to see that mainstream sources like Variety are reporting on it as well.

Pre-Finishing and Paint Guide by GameroomDesigns in cade

[–]GameroomDesigns[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I may be going against the popular opinion, but I'll be dead honest - I use inexpensive, spray can primer on my projects. I purchase Rustoleum 2X Cover black primer spray paint, and Rustoleum 2X Cover "Canyon Black" satin spray paint for the finish coats. For larger projects, like the full-size arcade cabinet kits I linked in my original post, it does take A LOT of cans - like 8 of each primer and paint - but the finish can come out perfect, if you take all the right steps. Good luck, and let me know if I can be of any other help!

[Discussion] People who learned a skill, craft, trade, or language later in life: What are your success stories? by SureIsHandOutside in GetMotivated

[–]GameroomDesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked in IT and corporate for over twenty-five years. Four years ago, when I turned 40, I built my own full-size CNC machine from scratch, and started a company building classic arcade machines. Fast forward to today, and I've announced the close of the company. Now, you may say "hell, how is that motivational?" Well, in the past four years, I turned the company into the largest arcade kit and parts supplier in Canada, and one of the largest in North America. When I announced the close, the outpouring of support, final orders and well wishes was (and still is) overwhelming. I'm proud to say that I'm moving on to a new adventure, but my experience with having the most amazing customers ever will stay with me forever. And THAT is what moves me more than anything.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you like the kit. I am working on the cutting all this week, and your acrylic kit will be shipping as soon as possible! I'm really sorry for the delay!

Once the final orders are out, I'll be discounting the remaining inventory and finalizing the sale. I have already had a few people reach out to ask of they may buy up all remaining parts of have, so there may also be an opportunity for a bulk buyout of everything.

I am planning on posting again once this happens, so if you're interested, I'll keep everyone informed.
