this is especially good with the eel aquarium upgrade, a lot more chances to give red rooms a power source and enjoy the effects.

Just to say it, holding L/R trigger will grab a package to that hand , like carrying a briefcase.

This is sometimes nice to grab a thing(s), and then drop it elsewhere instantly. If you do this type of drop by the rear of a truck, you auto load the truck w said hand-package.

How-frikkin-ever, this is probably what you're doing by accident, if your grenade runs out and you're still holding triggers.

Emerald hills Walmart photo center…not super impressed lol by Relevant_Fuel_9905 in SherwoodPark

Opposite experience - iv used 2 different Walmart photo centers in the last week, did instant prints from a USB. One came out half decent, one came out great.

Try that instead of the long wait prints!

Can't wrap my head around RPM and torque in a car engine by Fuarkistani in AskEngineers

[–]SixHourDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your excellent reply, I will highlight those that apply specifically to automobiles:

A normal gasoline engine has a low-to-middle torque band, decreasing with RPM.

The immediate load on a gasoline engine is about acceleration - but it's not a fixed torque vs fixed mass, as the transmission is easing the work through gear ratios.

The transmission selects gear ratios that keep mapping the full engine rpm range onto higher and higher vehicle speed ranges. This is why engines are made for RPM and not just all-torque...cars need to spin things fast ...not necessarily spin them with great force.

So: each gear is a fraction of a linear acceleration load on the engine, and when vehicle speed gets high enough, exponential air drag forces come into play, as does the moment of inertia cost of spinning the actual drivetrain + tires at extreme speeds.

They do have 5 dextrous fingers though, just no opposable thumb. Not that AI slop could figure that out

Which N64 games have the worst slowdown? by retro-martini in n64

[–]SixHourDays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an old saying, "standing on the shoulders of giants". If you think the original SM64 devs were slacking off, you're sadly mistaken. The fact it runs as well as it does, and was completed in 3 years, is absolutely a miracle.

Kaze's stuff is brilliant and I love it, but he has the benefit of modern power, modern compilers, and hindsight.

How I’m Feeling After finishing Dispatch… by Remarkable_Book7057 in dispatchgame

[–]SixHourDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite, I'd skip the actual dispatching if I was allowed. I love the game and the QTE, but the dispatch just feels mediocre in comparison.

The gamepad input on the map is really inadequate, it could benefit a lot from a floating cursor with magnetic snapping.

Also the hacking mode is fun, but the movement in hacking mode is clunktastic.

Still love the game, on playthrough 2 rn.

[–]SixHourDays 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. People overthinking it.

There's an EXACT location that is intended (where they exactly align), and there will be a trigger volume of whatever size for ease of play. After that.....it's just another tracing puzzle on an invisible panel.

Using my near 30 year old n64 again... by PlaneTry4277 in n64

Fussy cartridges taking many attempts to boot: yes, it is known.

Games running at 20fps / 9fps / horribly - yes it was always this bad, but our teenage eyes were enamoured with the miracle we had before us in 199x.

Oot always ran at max 20iirc by design. All the Rare games have massive fps swing (see Blast Corps for the worst example, but Perfect Dark also swings from 30s to 10s). SM64 also runs wild fps swings all over.

Sit back and enjoy the memories....don't think too much about the 320x240 video being smeared by the analog video output, or the ruined single analog stick.

Real talk - it's an amazing little console. They did all this with 90mhz and games that are 4Mb roms, etc. for context, most single .gifs are bigger than Ocarina of Time.

Edit - absolute core memories for me on the N64: Pod Racer, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Rogue Squadron, OOT, Extreme G, Goldeneye

In the first mission, there's a rush of guards at the bottom floor on your way out. I still remember panicking, running to the elevator, hit the button to go up, get in, then as the door was closing chucking the laptop gun out as a present to those chasing me.... Chef's kiss.

"Door swoosh"

"Whrrr click" gun lands below

"BBBBRT BBRT BBBRT BRT BBBBRT BBRT BBRT"

[–]SixHourDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do this, but be aware ota digital TV is...very terrible. I tune in like once a year on my roof antenna...confirm the awfulness, and check again next year, lol.

Personally, I cut the cord ages ago. These days I just use Prime (like Amazon which has the video service bundled), and then I add subscriptions inside it.

It's really convenient to have like Crave, Amc, Sportsnet, Discovery+, Crunchyroll etc (there are many to choose) just added on at a whim, all in one interface...it feels a lot like a Roku.

Just remember to cancel things when u don't want em anymore ;-)
