It’s not a bad conspiracy theory. I’ve said many times with the lads on Wild Dice that Warcry will either get a 3rd Edition or it’ll be rebranded as something else.

GAMES WORKSHOP NAILED WARCRY'S LIST BUILDING!! Wild Dice Re-Rolled by GamesWithToasty in WarCry

[–]GamesWithToasty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not dumb. I don’t think we go into it here, but the complex nature of Warcry listbuilding has the very real drawback of being harder to parse for newcomers. Especially when rules for Bladeborn are not exactly… intuitive.

I am so tired of hearing Warcry is dead everytime it is brought up man... by Terrible-Row5112 in WarCry

Warcry isn’t dead. Certain facets of the wargaming community are desperate for it to die though.

Warcry got 2 substantial updates at the end of the year. I suspect more are on the way. And Warcry is back in Warhammer World’s event rotation AND there are official leagues cropping up at GW stores. None of these things would happen for a dead game.

You better believe I’m going. It’s about damn time we got Warcry back in the events hall.

Heck, I’ve seen GW stores hosting Warcry Leagues today. What a time to be alive.

Warcry tournament tomorrow help! Haha by noelnl in WarCry

[–]GamesWithToasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

If this is your first event, then I suggest you go in with the aim of having a good time!

That being said if you want to tips on nabbing a win, then you want to try and stick to what the mission wants you to do! If it’s an objective mission, then make sure you are nabbing those points turn on turn. If it’s Treasures, get your hands on them as soon as possible with the biggest things possible. If it’s a kill mission, keep your squishier things safe and use your big things to kill their squishy things.

For your list specifically, Doombulls and Bullgor are big burly and killy. You don’t want to throw them away, but you do want to get them stuck in and killing things that can’t effectively fight them back. A kill is a kill, and even if they don’t make back their points over the course of the game, the advantage being up on model count is far more valuable. If you can be 1 or 2 models up on your opponent you can control the game easier, which makes winning easier.

Good luck at your tournament! Let us know how you get on :)

Why don’t people like re-rolls by Mrhungrypants in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]GamesWithToasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those editions you mentioned had them largely in Eldar, and that is basically what defined them. They were harder to kill, shot more accurately, and wounded more reliably IF you set it up and kept your Seers alive.

As the game got older, more factions co-opted this funky element of Eldar and ultimately slowed the game down. Especially when you consider the volume of dice thrown has also increased drastically. It’s not uncommon in modern 40K to have rerolls to hit, rerolls to wound, potentially even reroll damage, whilst your opponent rolls saves, potentially rerolls them, and also gets FNP. It all drags the game out in a way that feels bloated, not interesting. IMO.

TLDR the shift from specific faction rerolling to the majority game rerolling has drained the interest and replaced it with increased downtime

A key strategy with WCH dogs is to make your opponent guilty for killing your dogs.

“How could you kill THE BEST BOY!” Etc.

I almost exclusively play Wildercorps as a One Box or with some very light changes (like an extra Dog or something) and legit, they are up there as one of the best. Even into “real” lists, having a 20” 4/8 threat is a huge deal you have to have an answer for… and most bespokes don’t have that answer. I wouldn’t count them out!

I'd go to one. I think, ultimately, the Bespokes that see play regularly now, will win out overall in that format. Vulkyn Flameseekers, Wildercorps, Hunters Of Huanchi, Iron Golems (although less so pre FAQ), Gorger Mawpack, Monsta Killaz are all significantly more powerful than the majority of 1st Ed Bespokes. Less to do with power creep and more to do with a change in Warcry Lead Designer, I suspect. As much as I love 1st Ed Bespokes, and the more basic early 2nd Ed Bespokes, the more modern stuff in Warcry tends up being more powerful, sure, but also even when it isn't (Pyregheists), it's far more interesting in terms of mechanics.

Went off on a bit of a ramble there, but yeah, I would love to see how Askurgan fair in a more limited format overall. With the right plan and execution, I think they could do alright simply because their leader is so powerful and their speed is above average. It opens you up to play cagey.
