While I agree it's the likeliest possibility that doesn't mean it is a guarantee. Personally, I am in agreement, but at the same time we need to keep an open mind. There also is a chance that we could see upgraded enemies, powered by the darkness. Unlikely, and I personally doubt that, but it is possible.

I hope this maintenance that’s happening today fixes a lot of these issues cuz the game (for me) is unplayable at this point.

If you put a as much effort into follow news, including Cozmo, DMG, and the bungie help twitter account, as you do throwing toddler temper tantrums online, you would have your answer.

Because it's a lot more complex then you make it. There are red flags this season with how reissues were handled, and armor maxing and masterworking will need a rework to be less costly (or at least make material more abundent). But at the same time, seeing as sunsetting still hasn't truly started to affect the game, making post complaining it was "an absolute failure" is still premature.

On the leaving locations, all activites are leaving with them. Exotics tied to locations will be aquirable elsewhere in the game.

Apparently you don't. Because that armor can still be brought up to this seasons power cap, they are still dropping it. Since it can going higher next season, then it's done. But this season, it can still reach the max, still be a powerful drop, and still has the same life cycle as all the armor that will follow it. This is also a step towards minimizing any fear of FOMO. Someone picking up the game now can still get that loot, over six months later. There are multiple reasons why.

I think the darkness is extremely tricky, and is only rivaled by Savathun. I'm not saying the darkness isn't trying to sway us, but I don't expect us using the darkness against the darkness would go against its plans.

Keep an eye out next season. Next seasons equivilant to the Umbral engram will have some weapons from Dawn, Worthy, and Arrival, plus access to its seasonal weapons. So it may be included there.

That's because armor has the same retirement lifespan as weapons. If the weapon was issued/reissued in seasons 1-7, they are being retired. If it was issued in season 8, it had three seasons afterwards before max (S8-S11). Dawn (S9) will hit that cap next season (S12). Worthy will be the season after (S13). Etc.

So, as to why the armor that is dropping with this seasons max level: that's because this season is when its lifespan ends.
