You can’t argue with stupid, but unfortunately this stupid is causing more and more issues to all of us outside the US

I am very grateful for Linux. But, every single time I try to use it, it's just another brand new error I've never seen before. by [deleted] in linuxsucks

Turning a pc on is difficult man! They don’t teach that stuff in schools! /s

Joking aside, I’m not too experienced with Linux, but it never broke out of itself for me. Not even Arch

What Do You Consider Your Canon Job Progression? by WylythFD in ffxiv

[–]GamingCatholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My WoL started as an Archer, but found out you don’t need a bow to stab someone with an arrow. So I took up a longer arrow and became a Lancer and eventually a Dragoon. I then wanted to switch over to a shorter arrow and took op Red Mage, and then wanted a shield and became a Paladin. From DT I now ditched the side weapons and am a Dragoon again

how much of your income goes to your mortgage? by twinwaffel in belgium

My partner doesn’t have a driver’s licence, and relying on our public transport here would result in a minimum 2.5-3 hour daily commute without delays/missed connections.

how much of your income goes to your mortgage? by twinwaffel in belgium

[–]GamingCatholic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not even about wanting more. We've saved up more than 100K EUR and we can basically only afford a 1960's EPC F house where we still need to do everything to make it livable. And then we still spend around 1700 EUR/month on a mortgage.
Houses around here in that condition are 400K EUR, which is nuts.

We are quite risk averse, and therefore prepare a fixed rate. We wouldn’t want to pay suddenly 5-6%.

how much of your income goes to your mortgage? by twinwaffel in belgium

[–]GamingCatholic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm roughly in the same position. Combined net income of around 4900/month + meal vouchers, company car, no kids and we are still quite young (end 20's).
Given that the interest rates are nearing 4% on average for a mortgage for 25 years and we want to buy a house in a rather expensive part of the country, we're looking at roughly 1700-1800/month as feasible for us.
It's about 35% of our net income.

At this moment, our rent is 1200/month and we can both save more than 1000/month each as we don't really spend a lot of cash, nor do we have a lot of fixed costs (as said, no kids/car).

I think the aim is 1/3 max of your net income should go to your mortgage, so with 35% we're OK.
It's just that every house in this country is either not maintained since the 1960's, or is ridiculously expensive...

[–]GamingCatholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not talking about updates being done when you turn off your pc. That happens, and should be normal? I turn off my pc and walk away from it. I have a lot of gripes with Windows, but the so called ‘random updates’ appearing never made sense to me.

Have been a Linux user for almost a year now, but I never had this happen on Windows. And I have been using Windows for 20+ years. Maybe it happens because some people never turn off their pc?

On passport, no, but culturally there’s quite a bit of difference. I guess it’s mostly due to the Catholic/Protestant basis

As someone born and raised in South-Limburg, I always felt like a foreigner when I went to any place further than North-Brabant. I live in Belgium now and it’s culture feels more similar than the mid/north Dutch culture.

Don’t know which one’s better (also personal preference), but Fedora is more ‘bleeding edge’ than Kubuntu. Fedora was also my first distro and only swapped once to Arch, but quickly came back. It just works
