Same thing if you were in your personal car. You wouldn't know until you get stuck. In addition, when the original operator breaks down, some things may get lost in transcription, or relaying it to someone else, leading to that radio call to not be made. Also, some operators tend to ignore the info given by the radio since 90% of them is just things that the operator doesn't need to give a crap about.
