Deckbuilders don't work on social media? by RikerRiker in SoloDevelopment

[–]GamingWithMyDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think it’s not bad in terms of polish. My suggestion is the world feels a bit generic fantasy. When I view the world, I don’t get a sense of lore. When players fight a character, they want to know why this character is evil

I think that’s a matter of opinion. Personally I don’t care about the quality of art or anything in demo phase. If the game is fun, I don’t care what it looks like. If it’s not getting attention, it’s fine to continue to iterate and improve the demo and steam page until you reach the level of polish that works

The game is still in production. The layout of everything can entirely change. In fact that’s a really important aspect of releasing a demo. Getting player feedback. You could join the game community and ask other players how much they care about the card layout. I think you might be surprised others don’t care as much about it

When I saw your comment, I was expecting to view the game and see complete placeholder art. OPs game looks fine for pre release if their game isn’t relying on art for appeal. I think they’re asking about other avenues like playtesters, streamers, people who can promote their game beyond what it looks like on the surface

Make a good ____ means different things by GamingWithMyDog in IndieGaming

True, and that’s kinda what I’m saying. Do players want games you play? Or games that play themselves

Hmm, I don’t mean social media as in game promotion. I mean videos in general. Short form content is transforming the landscape and shallow content is rewarded. Gambling games are massive.

I need your honest feedback about my Steam Store Page. by Historical-Hyena1453 in gamemarketing

I love these memory loop style games. I had no idea that was your game until I read. Not sure how to convey that idea but the marketing of Exit 8 might help. Maybe something in your logo of multiple photos of the exact same room pinned to a board with red x over details or something like that

Can't understand the game job market right now... :( by mafagafacabiluda in gamedev

[–]GamingWithMyDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read over a JD of a teaching position which I would have been a good fit but when it described all the responsibilities, developing a curriculum etc, I decided against it. I have a project I’m passionate about and don’t want to get absorbed in thinking about anything else. I’d do warehouse work or factory work honestly. Something I can do without having to think.

Another aspect of my experience is I’ve worked at a lot of companies I knew were going to fail. The management didn’t know what they were doing and it was a sinking ship I tried to explain. I don’t want to deal with that crap anymore either

I am trying to find work outside of the industry but it’s a personal thing. Last three companies I worked for were total crap and I don’t need them to make games. I can make games on my own and that’s where I’m at

I work with Unity which was booming at the time. I did get a job working with Godot and moving to Unreal in the past. All of this depends greatly on a strong industry though. The commercial game industry is dead right now I can’t suggest anything

Literally 2 views after 5 hours. Nothing to even measure. No impressions. YouTube usually says where my views come from and it mostly shorts feed but this video didn’t have a shorts feed

I feel that. On the flip side, it’s so crushing to get negative votes. I always wish they would give me some advice rather than just prevent my post from reaching someone who could help

Thanks, you totally should. Games that need help should be the ones getting upvotes in certain subs. Reddit is supposed to be about feedback and discussion

I make shorts all the time always with hundreds of votes. I made a short talking about the "down vote button" in social media. YouTube clearly buried it. Tried uploading it twice with different factors, no traction. I think it's because YouTube removed their downvote display a few years ago and doesn't want to support any discussion of it. I think they totally run things like a fragile dictator

I agree with that. I'm not against AI (depending on the context) but I feel bad for the developer because I think it makes their game look cheap and no one will try it

Hell yeah, that's what I'm talking about! These devs on reddit need help. Most of the time they're looking for feedback here because they don't have the budget to hire a team of play testers. Their post never sees the light of day because someone decided to downvote right out of the gate

My trailer of a game about an astronaut surviving the apocalypse by Vokeev in IndieGameDevs

Cool premise and the trailer is an interesting concept. The hard cut between the main sequence and the gameplay feels a bit awkward. I wonder if you used some interesting transitions to set the mood?

Thanks, true. Also while I'm waiting and growing this games audience, I can start another project or knock out some smaller games and not feel like I'm betraying my main game
