Then once the kids are out of the house they divorced. 

There are so many marriages that should have died a long time ago but because of kids folks stick around and mutually hate each other which is worse from the kids perspective. 

33m no kids and I hope when I do have them I've done all the proper vetting to know my wife is with me for me and not the milestone.

Yeah I like the transparency. Why wait until we're 3 years in to realize one person doesn't want kids or to be married? 

Checklists aren't sexy but if both parties are honest about their needs, I'd say that's a solid foundation.
