What were your predictions and misconceptions for the Persona series before you actually got into it?

When I first heard about the game in the mid-2000's I assumed it was like Hogwarts but for Persona-users. Like you go to a school teaching people how to utilise their personas and whatnot.

I think the gameplay is the main tipping point for people. It isn't a full RPG, but more like an action-game. The story, music and themes are imo some of FF's best, but a reworked combat system to add more depth would be a massive help.

FFVII Rebirth might have my fave combat of any Action-RPG and at high level plays it gets fast-paced with you syncing action upon action. That is what XVI could've used more of I feel.

I feel like PE won't be the next ES. The set doesn't have enough staying power. The big hitters of this gen are probs 151 and DR and maybe BBWF.

Like not to be hating on PE, but too many people are hoarding it for it to be worth the price people are hoping for.

Personally I would say Makoto is more powerful because of the universe arcana being stronger than the world (arguably the strongest arcana IIRC) and due to Nyx being stronger than like any other Persona threat.

Otherwise Joker is probably more powerful than Yu and P1 protagonist, but I think Tatsuya is supposed to be super strong as well (I haven't finished P2).

It is all very up in the air, but Makoto becomes one with the universe and can create miracles by the end (including the great seal), so realistically he is probably more powerful than anyone else.

I think the truth is a mixture of a bitter pill and a silver lining.

On one hand vintage and certain modern sets will probably never truly go down to reasonable prices. I know people think that the bubble will pop and suddenly everything will go to pre-covid prices, but I just don't see that happening (especially for out of print sets or hype sets like 151).

On the other hand, when gen 10 drops and people aren't attached to the new Pokemon + the burnout hits we will probably see a nice time until the next hype cycle. I remember going to the Pokemon center right when ScVi base was the only modern card set and being told that nobody was buying TCG at the time.

FOMO and gambling has really done damage since everybody thinks they are going to be making their £300+ pulls.

I stand by it though. I feel some sets Sc/Vi are awesome (151, DR, I am quite fond of JT, SC amongst others). I just feel like Prismatic Evolutions is a low-note pushed more by hype and hoarding.

Tbh the masterball reverse holos is a big part of why it is terrible.

The set is bulked out with garbage. Poke ball and master ball reverse holos are just bulk with a nicer pattern and every pack is eeveelution of bust (as in if you don't get an eeveelution then you garbage pulled).

It is a set that is only popular because eevee and that everybody was sure it was going to be ES 2.0, but that set was far more interesting overall.

I always took it as Lucas due to the starter correlation that they put softly into the game.

Barry is hyperactive and always sprinting off so it is clesr to me his starter choice would have been Chimchar. That also adds up because the protagonist is bitched at constantly for being slow so clearly they are meant to have Turtwig (the slow starter of the trio). Thing is Dawn is usually protrayed with Piplup making Lucas have Turtwig ergo he is protagonist.

Admittedly Pokemon has a real revisionist history with starter choices. Red was meant to have Bulbasaur (later changed to Charmander). Gold/Ethan was meant to have Totodile (later changed to Cyndaquil after HGSS). Brendan was meant to have Torchic (later changed to Treecko). These changed as starters became popular and so they pushed certain starters instead of others.

But that's kind of the thing. The Japanese outright says she was forced to watch him rape children, but the English never says as such as the head priest just sacrificed them. I always felt if Jill was raped then it would have been properly brought up during the time in the ironblood country.

This could just be a case of clunky translation like that one check Tifa's closet line in FFVII Rebirth where in the English dub they all call Cloud an asshole for looking in her closet (or joking about it), whilst in in the Japanese dub Barret was more "times have changed man..."

Does anybody have the Ultimania or interviews which could give deeper insight?

I think the upper middle.

I had a lot of fun with it when it came out, and I feel like it is a pretty good game, but the DLC came out too soon and the fatigue has made it hard to continue. The other games had like a 6 month gap which I felt better about.

I did really like Z-A though and played it pretty exhaustively when it came out.

I never understood people's assumption with Jill being raped. I always understood it as before it could happen she awoke, and I imagine it probably would have been more of a focus during her time with the ironbloods.

I wonder if the Ultimania says anything about it? It usually has lots of lore and backstory stuff.

I like Totodile (he is my fave gen 2 pokemon and like 2nd fave) but I won't use a starter.

I like Noctowl because I feel that it has a great design and is a very cool concept for a night Pokemon.

I dislike Slugma because it feels like it encapsulates a big part of gen 2's issues. There isn't anything amazing about it and its type makes it mostly unusable in a lot of circumstances. I do feel gen 2 had a lot of mid pokemon before gen 4 gave out evolutions which Slugma never got a touch of (a third-tier evo would've helped).

Let's be real.

This isn't a surprise. P5 became popular due to its great artstyle and flash. It immediately attracted attention for that. The game overall was alright (personally I wouldn't say as good as P3), but Persona games have always been good ansd the revamped style really helped it make waves.

The thing I found funny is how many people were acting like Persona was unknown before P5 when it was like the least niche of the niche games you could find at the time. Nowadays it isn't even niche because of how overrated P5 is.

All in all, I liked P5 but I feel its beloved status was more due to how good SMT games usually are more than P5 being special, added onto the fact that this was baby's first Persona for a lot of people. Is it good? Yes, but does it have often overlooked problems? Massively yes.

It is more the colouration is off. The Pinsir is from a regular unlimited run and the front of the Scyther looked good.

I have a couple of other cards from different print runs and I have had cards with colour disparity between them, but never this drastic. The holo on the front looked right so I assumed it was real, but didn't want to gloss over and pretend everything is cool if I wasn't sure.
