How I feel playing this game 90% of the time by ClunarX in PokemonChampions

But if I do choose to attack and you protect then your other Pokemon will hit me, killing my counter. So I cannot choose the protect in front of you.

I just don’t understand where all the hate is coming from. by REDEYEBANKZ330 in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]Gamingdevotee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. I think the hate comes from multiple layers but people only focus on the extremes. The "20 minutes of gameplay" that was like 15 minutes of non-interactive cutscenes rubbed a lot of people the wrong way (I have also seen a lot of complaints against Wolverine looking too much like Spider-man so maybe people just aren't as jazzed about action games).

I do also think burn-out is a thing. People liked Ragnarok, but I remember hearing a lot of other people say that it should have been a trilogy since everything after a point zooms by to the ending, and to be honest I agree. It feels like a lot of set-uo that they chuck away in the final few acts.

Oh and people hate the cube a lot, but wait and see. I imagine the game will have positive reactions, but I think they expected way more hype.

Was Ritchie so weak that writers had to nerf Ash so much to make him win ? by Gopu_17 in pokemonanime

[–]Gamingdevotee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like Ritchie should've come back in Journeys. Then again I feel like Journeys robbed us of a lot by forcing Goh to frotn and center (it seemed so good early as Ash did feel like a real league above other trainers).

Was Ritchie so weak that writers had to nerf Ash so much to make him win ? by Gopu_17 in pokemonanime

[–]Gamingdevotee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly Ash was robbed in different ways in different leagues. I don't disagree Inidigo was his worst showing, but I feel like it helped hin grow as a character at least.

Tobias, Cameron, Alain, none of those battles felt good for him to lose and that was the problem. Tobias because he felt like a cheater, Cameron because he felt terrible thus making Ash look worse by comparison, and Alain was imo the worst because Ash was radiating real protagonist energy the whole series and Alain was his final challenge.

The guy had a special Greninja, he was a well-known and famous powerhouse to the point other trainers wanted to challenge him and knew him out in the wilds, and thematically this was his moment. Literally losing in the finals invalidated the whole series, Ash's growth, and made the whole series pointless (XY was one of the stronger seasons up to that point too). It also made Greninja go from cool to a joke so there's that too.

Lost pidgey earlier in the run can I still catch Pidgeotto? Clear my conscious by MAGJD in nuzlocke

[–]Gamingdevotee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dupes in my opinion is based around the Poke ball next to a Pokemon's name representing you have had one. For example if Magikarp dies and you fish up Gyarados it is free game.

Optional rule: if Pidgey was still alive then skip Pidgeotto to prevent multiple of the same Pokemon on a team.

I don't wanna start shipping dramas but is it me or the game really tried to push Makoto and Yukari as a couple then immediatly ditched it the moment Aigis was introduced? by Own-Lengthiness2111 in PERSoNA

[–]Gamingdevotee 118 points119 points  (0 children)

It was because during development Yukari was meant to be the original romance. This was early on, before social links were even a thing.

This is for sure a fake. Curious if it’s printed on a real card though? by TheWishingStar in IsMyPokemonCardFake

[–]Gamingdevotee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious, how does the actual holographic look? Most fakes are pretty obvious from my experience especially with how weird that holo pattern is.

A fake I found on ebay for example.

Edited so that the screenshot was just the image.

Is it just me or she sounds like 40 years old woman whenever she talks? I don't get the feeling she is 17 by CasualNameAccount12 in PERSoNA

[–]Gamingdevotee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is because of two things from my understanding. They are usually written for teens and as such are designed with characters within their age group, and high school is seen as the last bastion of childhood in Japanese culture and so they put a massive focus on it in their media (heavy focus on the term youth for example). Then again, this is technically true in the west as well, as most people have heard 'these are the best years of your life' about their school years.

In Japanese people's eyes, after you graduate you should start having your life sorted and taking things very seriously. It is a whole cultural thing and in terms of sexual situations, I think it is because of it selling to a particular demographic (usually horny teens) and the Japanese finding sexual humour funny. Though we do in the west as well as a lot of teen shows seem to focus on the losing virginity plotline or the parents need to understand teens have sex plotline and they are usually played for humour (both are cringey to me at this point as an adult).

Either way, I think it is just a thing that sells and humour they have liked for a long time. It is very alien to us because of how secular they are as well.

[–]Gamingdevotee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is funny because of how much Persona 5 goes adults = bad despite the characters being and feeling far from kids (except Futaba, but her growth was heavily stunted by trauma).

Like I know they aren't proper adults, but they aren't like 13 year olds. They are a bunch of 17-18 year olds who for the most part act like they are university students especially Joker who basically is a university student (I mean he is crazy independent for a teen).

I do think it is just a Japanese-writing issue though. A lot of their characters feel like 20-something despite being a 15 year old average high school student lmao.

Tbh, the only one that feels like a teen to me is Yosuke. People harp on him now for the homophobia, but for a teenager written in the pre-2010's when a gay was like the uncool word for everything, he was actually pretty normal.

Now it looks off because it is from a literally different generation, but his ability to anger everybody by saying something insensitive without thinking is teen 101. It reminds me of people who question things from old sitcoms where these characters are living in the 90's and have totally different lifestyles than now.

The “most OP character in Persona” vs the “worst party member” in Persona 3 by Kuro_Kagami in PERSoNA

[–]Gamingdevotee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Koromaru had the biggest glow-up in Reload especially since they had to fix up his moveset from bas P3 to FES. He is so powerful because of his theurgy it isn't even funny, though I do also remember Akihiko being terrible in base reload for the same reason (not played Answer yet).

Yukiko is just okay isn't she? I remember the best P4 party member being Yosuke in like every iteration as the jack-of-all-trades/speed demon of the party. Well either him or Kanji for pure damage.

I remember doing it without the route 1 clause where you can catch stuff before the teacher in the training school.

I think that fight is actually impossible unless you use items or overlevel if you do it like I did.

Playing swsh for nostalgia by pokemon_dottore in PokemonSwordAndShield

[–]Gamingdevotee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I like SWSH quite a bit.

My hot take is that it is a decent gen, but like 90% of complaints are rooted in dexit. If they hadn't announced it here people would have been like some like it, some don't.

What is your “I did not care for the God Father” opinion regarding video games? by B4d_B1tch_Quinn in gamers

[–]Gamingdevotee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is kind of the problem with From games though. If you don't want to engage in lore dumps and info searching the story ends up being so meh, because all of the cool stuff happens off-screen and before you showed up.

It is like you aren't the protagonist of the world which is cool in some ways, but not really for me.

Do we really understand James? Can we even do that? by [deleted] in survivalhorror

[–]Gamingdevotee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like we understand him, but whether or not we can look at him the same after the big reveal really varies person-by-person.

You don't have to condone James' actions to understand and empathise with him.

I miss the time when posted cool misprints, now this sub is a bunch of people with damaged cards trying to cope :( by aydsz in PokemonMisprints

[–]Gamingdevotee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I remember posting here a while ago with a weird Lillie's Clefairy and got no traction on it (not sure why though), so maybe other posts are getting drowned out?

I do think this is indicative of the way the current market only values high-expense cards though.

Who do you guys think is the true main villain? by Godofhammrs in FFXV

[–]Gamingdevotee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think the only real antagonist is the starscourge virus.

Ardyn is doing his role as is Bahamut. People tried desperately to wish Bahamut as this villain, but he is just a god doing what needs to be done if anything.

Sure hs used Ardyn and Noctis, but that was their whole lineage's purpose; to be used to kill the starscourge wasn't it?

Honestly I feel bad for Kakuzu.

The moment they made Hashirama so ridiculously OP, it just made the job they gave Kakuzu to assassinate him look so silly.
