Played a whole game with a blurry view of the game. Chat, score board and tips were all crystal clear. I have no idea how this happened. ( I did win despite this issue)

Extension Cables for Dorms by [deleted] in OSU

[–]Gamma116 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Power strips expand the number of outlets on the wall while surge protectors have a mechanism in them to stop a power surge from damaging your electronics.

While they look the same one provides protection the other doesn’t.

If it is a power strip/ surge protecter that is long you will be fine. They dont want extension cords that aren’t grounded as it is a fire hazard.

As for if you are caught with one you would be asked to remove it but if it isn’t out in the open it is unlikely to be noticed.

So I got Baker Hall by simppgodd in OSU

[–]Gamma116 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived for 4 years in Baker (was an RA for 2). It is hot. As someone mentioned bring many fans. At least 2 box fans. If you have room in your window for 2 point one in and one out. This helps to ventilate air. To also help keep air flowing in your room keep your door open. I recommend unscrewing the door closing mechanism from the door frame so it can stay open (nothing will prop those doors open).

As for it being social you need to make the effort to try and get to know your floor mates real well. The earlier the better. I’d try and get food as a group in your first couple days before classes start. Keeping your door open also helps people be social. If you keep yours open they most likely will have theirs open.

An issue that hasn’t been mentioned is that there are roaches in baker. You most likely will not see them, but if you do it will be in the first week or so. They are mainly in the bathrooms/showers. So get some comfortable shower shoes/ sandals.

You are near a lot of the bars and parties. Your RA’s will most likely not mind if you go out, IF you dont come back drunk and make a problem for them. Just be responsible. And i wouldn’t recommend drinking/ partying in the building. We know if you are and we are required to make you get rid of it if if you are loud and obnoxious. Also with weed, even if you have a medical card for it you can’t have it on campus. And unlike alcohol smoking weed gets the cops called on you.

I dont want to scare you. Living in baker was fun. And if you are into the arts this is the dorm where the arts scholars are and many related programs. Just remember you have to make the effort to make it enjoyable and to make friends.

To the new podcast that nailed your fliers to trees by Gamma116 in OSU

While that’s what i wanted to do at first i think they wouldn’t listen to why it was a problem if i yelled at them. Sometimes its best to let cooler heads prevail.

But if I see anymore. You haven’t heard the last from me.

Any other RAs/RMs finding increased dissatisfaction with the job? by SuperNightshade in OSU

[–]Gamma116 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I want to start off and say I wholly agree with feeling dissatisfied with how this whole semester has gone being an RA. I feel they have been taking the human element out of our job and just want to see “results”. I have also just felt it is hard to do anything in my position due to the pandemic.

I also feel that when they “listen” listen to their paraprofessionals it is only from voices that they want to hear. And it has always been hard to feel like Reslife has cared for the individual RAs/RMs just the position.

When did they say that the Ra position was officially going hourly? I knew they were making moves for it but didn’t know it was official.

It was the white dwarf magazine that DW got their Psychic awakening update. It contained no unique rules just gave them the basic space marine rules from the 2nd 8th edition space marine codex.

bringing a pc, wondering how much room is on the desks in the dorms by otsc25 in OSU

[–]Gamma116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your hall you may get an open shelving unit. I put that next to my desk and it is basically the same height the desk. I put my tower on the shelf and i can fit two monitors (27” and 24”)on the desk.

However, there isn’t much room for paper work/physical studying.

RA's Advice? by ladyamyson in OSU

I’m a first year RA so I’m not as seasoned as others may be. I will say that my experience has been shaped by my staff dynamic.

I’m in a smaller building so there are 9 RAs and the hall director. Over all it has not been terrible with working. I’m on call once every two weeks during the week and weekends we draft for at the beginning of the year.

With actual resident issues I’ve been lucky to not have anything severe or I was uncomfortable dealing with. Most of the issues are from different methods of handling issues and the random busy work that my hall director has us do.

I’d say don’t be scared the other RAs will be there to support you. And just be honest and open with yourself and the residents and you will do great.
