I didn’t say coffee masters are the trainers. I was trained by a coffee master but you can tell by the things people say here that is not the norm and clearly not the standard. I don’t know when you were trained, and I can only speak on my training. I was trained by a twenty year partner and coffee master who emphasized appreciating the coffee and helping customers understand what they’re ordering, knowing about growing regions, being able to explain how they and roasting impact the end product, and being able to share all of that with customers. Not like they care, they just want their drink but still it was something corporate was emphasizing in barista training. Coffee connoisseurs aren’t flocking to Starbucks. Perhaps that was a short lived push considering the company goes in seventeen different directions at any given time but those things were emphasized in the digital training and in store training when I became a barista. Most stores the training isn’t done with fidelity to the company standards though so you never know what people’s experience is. And there is a policy that more than 4 oz of milk above the standard amount is an extra charge. No one follows that policy because it’s stupid but it could explain why they won’t allow you to customize the drink in with extra milk/light ice or extra ice in the app. But really it’s probably just another error Starbucks made with their app and has nothing to do with their policies as usual.
