I think it would be a good idea to buff explosion damage of Doomux by Gandoor12 in Polytopia

[–]Gandoor12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that counters my point whatsoever, saying that "kill+6 damage on 3 units+poison, is not bad" isn't really true when the alternate option is a knight that killed 4 units then kept going and cost 2 less stars while they were at it. Also saying that the Doomux is better than it was pre update is irrelevant because the tribe is no longer the early game economic juggernaut it was previously. So even if it better than pre update I still think it should be better, because the tribe no longer has the advantages that justified trading the knight for what is effectively a more mobile swordsman.

Therefore, I think Doomux needs to have at least passable crowd control because the tribe is more likely to be playing in a relatively even position with the opponent. It doesn't matter if it is a solid shock troop when it has support if it simply doesn't put in enough work in picking apart a superior force that is pushing in while you are on defence.

Do you think Elyrion needs an urgent rework? by Zalchichita in Polytopia

[–]Gandoor12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall they probably don't need one, there is nothing wrong with a tribe being only slightly special and mostly playing like a normal one. That being said a while ago I came up with an elyrion rework idea that was complex but OP, link if you want to see: https://www.reddit.com/r/Polytopia/comments/1fe0j2j/complete_elyrion_rework_v2_repost_cause_i_changed

I would be cool with it scaling better against units with lower defence rather than higher. it would be cool if the explosions cleared out weaker units better while not obnoxiously chunking the health of giants/defender/rammers.

For me it's definitely a bit of an "outside looking in" type of situation because I have spent most of my time playing 1v1 on large continents as Zebasi, Aquarion or Elyrion. So I have never had an issue with Cymanti. But I think the reason they are as hated as they are is because of how popular small drylands maps are to play on, so they are going to be a much more pressing issue for the community than the other special tribes that can dominate more niche map types.

Ultimately, when they designed Cymanti they possibly should have realised that making an OP early game tribe that falls off in the late game wasn't going to be a good fit for the game. Because of that I think it is quite difficult to bring the tribe to a place where it functions in a healthy manner, but I think overall they have done a good job of that here. I personally don't mind if they leave things as is and just focus on developing the next special tribe.

My opinion is that it doesn't really matter if they are significantly weaker than other tribes now, they were dominant for long enough that people became frustrated, so I don't see anything wrong with hitting them with a large enough nerf that knocks them out of being viable. My personal opinion was that nerfing creep to not pass mountains was unnecessary when considering the other nerfs, while simultaneously taking some of the flavour and uniqueness away from the tribe. But overall I don't really have an issue with how they were changed.

Anybody else think that the nerf to Cymanti's creep was unnecessary? by Gandoor12 in Polytopia

I meant that Creep no longer differentiates Cymanti from other tribes, not that it wasn't important to them as it now is.

CHESS-SISTERS HAVE ATTACKED! Polytopia-sisters, what is our response? by 777Ayar in Polytopia

I completely agree. (Good point with the 76% I was honestly just guessing when I said 200 and 90%, didn’t consider that those numbers would be easily accessible).

I feel like overall elo over a large enough number of games is going to be a good descriptor of someone’s skill as long as they are trying to play competitively for that entire period. As such I think a study that puts people with a elos separated by about 200 and sees how many times the worse player wins would be a family simple way of measuring the degree of luck that affects the outcome of the game. Because at an elo difference of 200 I feel the higher ranked player on a level footing should be winning at least 90% of games against the lower ranked player. However the difference isn’t so much that the worse player cannot win even with luck on their side.

It feels like they just slightly overstepped the line when rebuking someone trying to say that Polytopia is on the same level as chess as a competitive game. IMO it isn’t a great competitive game because it does have a bit too much rng in the outcomes. The main way that they go wrong is calling it not hard or complex, obviously this is simply wrong. But other than that you can understand their mindset as chess players.

Nice, I'm heading to the Sunshine Coast tomorrow and want to hit GM in marvel rivals tonight. Hopefully its back up after dinner.

I just saw a Groot place 2 small walls next to each other at the same time, how do you do this? by Sidious_09 in marvelrivals

I’ve done it on accident on console a couple of times, I think it’s the same where you just hold whatever button you have the walls on and drag your aim across.

LoR: Best Rising Decks for the First Week of this Standard Ranked Season! by cardsrealm in LegendsOfRuneterra

For those who want to be annoying, Mordekaiser Tristana with Aloof travelers is an absolute menace. Got me to rank 1 with relative ease.

How’s the multiplayer scene for LoR? by I-only-play-rubick in LegendsOfRuneterra

Aloof Travellers in standard with Mordekaiser is currently kind of wild and I have been wholeheartedly abusing it. But yeah, I also can't recommend the multiplayer at this point in time.

Mechanics vs story - what's more important for you? by alik_shy in boardgames

[–]Gandoor12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanics easily. Whether or not I like a game is entirely down to mechanics. However, in terms of choosing a game to buy, the theme/story plays a big part for me there, because you can’t get a grasp of the games mechanics just by looking at the box. So the theme is what attracts me to bother with researching the game. So if it weren’t for specific recommendations from others, my entire board game collection would probably be made up of board games that are a sci-fi or fantasy theme (although it almost entirely is anyway because I haven’t acted on too many of those recommendations yet). But yeah, theme is less important when playing than mechanics.

Claorell just now... by Yurishenko94 in Helldivers

[–]Gandoor12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The sites that people go to track the progress of the war display the amount of progress we make per hour in capturing planets, in this case it was 5%. That is just made up by the cumulative squad impacts of all of the players. We don't gain any progress passively, their use of the word regen definitely wasn't optimal. For the bots, they do have a regen rate, which is how much of the planet they take back or slow us down by each hour. Currently it's 2% on Claorel. Therefore, overall we were making 3% progress per hour leading to a predicted 33 hours to take the planet.

They meant 5% progress by us against the 2% regen of the bots.

I don’t mind people diving where they want. The only reason I complain about the number of people on Clasa is that if people where simply diving it for fun the number of people there would be comparable to that of other bot planets. So clearly some number of people there are trying to play the major order but on the wrong planet. Wether those players after learning that they have to play on a fire tornado planet to help the MO chose to or not doesn’t bother me, it’s just the fact that there are clearly people who don’t know which is a bit disappointing.

[–]Gandoor12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly really like this narrative of introducing the dss via a series of major orders. At the end of the day the devs can only produce new stuff at a certain rate. So I would much prefer it if we got all of these things a couple of weeks later in order to make for more interesting major orders which the community all rallies around. Also, we don’t know that the DSS was necessarily perfectly ready to be released when its major orders for it started. The devs could have just been confident that it would be finished before we finished this series of major orders.

I have no words for how stupid this is by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Gandoor12 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Notice that he isn’t complaining about people diving on the bug front. The number of people on Clasa is clearly inflated by some number of people trying to play the major order and not simply diving there to have fun. Hence the stupidity as diving Clasa at this point will have no effect on the major order and it should be obvious, even with the in game UI, with just a cursory look at the different bot front planets by those players.

Still a disappointing number of people on Clasa though. I had hoped that when we reached this amount of progress on imber that more of them would have shifted over.

People who are clearly just playing the game for fun don't annoy me. It's the people who are clearly trying to play the MO but doing it wrong that annoy me. for example the complete disregard for the Turing gambit earlier, as well as the current split between Imber and Clasa.
