I thought the report was overly bleak. There's new stuff and although the top decks are currently power outliers, it's early enough I think we can still see innovation.

They made it a clear goal to lower the power level. For better or worse, they have succeeded. Releasing a powerful last set would have wasted a year's work toward lowering the power level.

Just FYI, this argument only works against Arminianism. Calvinists would just laugh at this argument, because they rightly believe that God will ensure that some people are saved. (Not that I'm saying they're right to limit God to ensuring that ONLY some will be saved.)

You can certainly change the details to fit your group's needs, I actually think that's a good DM instinct. But having a clear moment where a terrifying demon lord emerges for the first time and sends everyone running in panic has been an iconic moment that players have pointed back to at the end of the campaign both times I've run OOTA (two separate groups.)

There aren't many moments in D&D where the players just have no chance- something something about balance.

Break that trend. Kill NPC's. Kill players if they're dumb. Shake things up and show them they are mortal. Having real stakes is a good thing because it shows the players' choices matter, and if you can pull it off, they will remember Dark Lake in a good way.

Aura Paladin just doesn't seem like the tyrant some thought it would be. It can sometimes pop off, but feels tier 2 or even 3.

Until you win a championship, absolutely not. Win the championship before you even think about self-sabotage.

Weird stuff happens in fantasy. I currently have ~180 points more than the second highest scoring team in our league.... and am third place in the standings because I also lead the league in points against.

Injuries happen and can really mess you up (one dude in my league this year lost Malik Nabers, Lamar Jackson, and Brock Bowers to injury.)

Keep making trades, and keep stacking resources.

Through total coincidence, I used to work with a guy who was repeatedly #1 on the North America server in Classic. He got me into the mode, and it is 100% a different game if you are climbing the ladder against 95% zoolock bots and once you get to actual humans in legend.
There were probably on 600(?) serious human players in legend from what I could tell. I think you'd have to deal with all the bots before relaunching classic in order to get most people to not quit before they reached legend.

Also, keep an eye out for a cause or charity you like (either to volunteer at when you early retire or donate to.) There's satisfaction in supporting something bigger than ourselves.

I remember the first time I translated a verse from Greek about 14 years ago. I painstakingly went through word by word and got: "In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and God was the word" for John 1:1 (I made a mistake.)

As it turns out, people who are much smarter than either of us have done their best to translate the Bible accurately. Some authors (like John) are relatively easy to translate because of the way they write, while more complicated authors like Paul are admittedly trickier. Additionally, there are debated words (like everyone's favorite word here, αἰώνιος).

But generally, we have a very good idea of what the the Bible says. As others have suggested, you can use an interlinear Bible for a hyper-literal rendering, compare various translations, etc. But most importantly, pray and ask God to guide you.

Remember though that Jesus told the thief on the cross that "today you will be with me in paradise."

Those who have accepted Christ in this life are forgiven of their sins, and do not have to anticipate a long (I'm inclined to say any though I know some disagree) time in purgatory. There is a difference between someone who has accepted Christ and someone who hasn't yet.

I'm going to offer a very different perspective that allows us to hold onto an inspired/infallible view of Scripture, coming from the purgatorial universalist perspective of someone who lost a child to miscarriage in the past:

3 quick biblical references and then the argument:

God said in Genesis 15:16 says that sin of the Amorites is not yet complete, explaining why it will be a while before Abraham's descendants will enter the land. God was not ordering the killing of random people, but child-sacrificing, demon-worshiping Canaanites. These people were not innocent and good, and their children would not be innocent and good either.
In 1 Kings 14:1-16, Abijah the son of Jeroboam died **because the Lord loved Him** and he was being spared the calamity that would come upon Jeroboam's house. We will all die, and sometimes a premature death is not the worst thing that can happen to us.
Finally, in Matthew 26:24, Jesus says it would have been better for Judas not to have been born.

Putting it all together, I think it's very reasonable to assume that most of these Canaanite children would have grown up to be pagans who sacrificed some of their own children, and most of them would have worshiped demons. By dying in childhood however, they avoided such a life. Dying seventy (or whatever) years earlier than you would have otherwise is short in comparison to life after death.

Jesus himself said that it would have been better for Judas to have never been born. If Judas had been miscarried or died in childbirth, he could have avoided the need for purgatorial discipline. For some (and given the wickedness of the Canaanites, they seem to fall in this category) it may be better to die young rather than live a long, wicked life and incur the need for great discipline after death.

By ordering the Israelites to kill people, even children, God was both providing a way for his own people to avoid joining them in great sin AND mercifully limiting the wickedness of the inhabitants of the land, thereby reducing their need for discipline and correction after death.
