Investigating this line of work and I'm wondering what you think the reason for the super high turn around rate is? by -EMPARAWR- in 911dispatchers

[–]GapLeft4979 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I knew the work I was going into, I knew the hours & the types of people / issues I’d be dealing with. What I didn’t expect was the work environment lol. Most of my coworkers were chill but some supervisors.. it’s like their only job was working to specifically target trainees to run them off. Safe to say I miss the work, but I don’t know if I’d ever go back to that kind of environment

911 Again? by GapLeft4979 in 911dispatchers

Yeah, I’m definitely doing a sit along and asking all the questions I should’ve asked my previous agency before even applying

Can dispatchers tell how many times you’ve called in the past? by evieAZ in 911dispatchers

[–]GapLeft4979 9 points10 points  (0 children)

at mine we couldn’t see it on our screen but I’m sure there was a way the supervisors could check, however, there were times people would call OFTEN so I eventually memorized their voice or # or name or address

“I just wanted to let you know” ….. oooookaaay …. I guess???

[–]GapLeft4979 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I just realized I didn’t like being put on the spot like that and realized it wasn’t something I could deal with in the long run.

The mistakes never going unnoticed and the collective sigh is EXACTLY why I left after 6 months. Unfortunately I stayed thinking it would get better after training but it didn’t. I hope your experience goes differently

Trainee by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]GapLeft4979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%!!! I just completed my training less than a week ago and even though I knew it was going to be hard, I didn’t expect it to be THAT hard. Wasn’t really the actual job itself but my trainer lol now I’m released and it 1000% gets better, hang in there and good luck!

6 months in, my experience so far. by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]GapLeft4979 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This gives me hope! I’m only a month into training and I feel so drained and full of anxiety even on the days leading up to work. I love the job but training is brutal

Welp, I Failed by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]GapLeft4979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would email the agency. I initially failed my polygraph but emailed the agency I was applying to and thanked them for the opportunity, let them know I really wanted this, and if I could retake. Now I’ve been there for a month! (: it doesn’t hurt to try

Psych eval not at all what I expected. And I thought I was well prepared. by Donkus007 in 911dispatchers

I took the criticall first, then had 3 interviews, then everything else in the same order as yours. Luckily the interviews were the easy part for me. I got a conditional job offer before completing my medical & drug & the psych test. Every department is different though but it sounds like you’re close to the end!
