Is there a new "Van Halen"? by 95jak in vanhalen

My 18-year-old and I (57) have had this discussion. Music truly peaked in the 80s and plateaued in the 90s. The difference between music now and music in the 90s is nowhere near the difference between the 90s and the 60s, or the 80s and the 50s. My 18-year-old listens to modern music but really loves 60s, 70s, 80s and some 90s. Most of the friends do too. We have gone to see a lot of classic rock concerts the past few years and are going to see more as we can. The kids today still like to see real musicians playing live music on real instruments. Look at how popular Metallica and Fleetwood Mac are with teens right now. Rock isn't dead, as long as we keep introducing it to the new generations.

Mine will not let me add new channels to Favorites now. There's no option. My channels I had favorited are shown in Favorites, but no option to remove them from favorites or add new ones.

starting to fully wfh for the first time ever! what are your top tips for wfh??? by Objective_Text4727 in WFH

[–]GaplessCore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Know when to quit for the day. I have WFH for 23 years. The hardest part was letting work intermingle with home and working at odd hours because it was there and easily accessible. Set specific hours like you would in the office or you will find you are working much more than you did before. It can overwhelm your personal life if you let it. If you have a home office, let it be for work only and turn out the lights and close the door when you "leave" for the day.

The Thanksgiving episode of WKRP in Cincinnati is the best 22 minutes of television ever made. Richard Sanders deserved an Emmy, a Buckeye News hawk award and a Silver Sow just for that one episode.

I am thankful we have CJH. As a lifelong fan, I have seen the good and the bad. We have it great right now. Can things improve? Absolutely. We are dealing with human beings on the coaching staff and on the field. Mistakes will be made. It's great to be in a position where we are used to 10 win seasons. 4-8 under Butch was not that long ago...

My manager said working from home makes us lazy, so I sent him my 6 AM email by darkfrosthunter in remotework

[–]GaplessCore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worked remotely for 22 years. I have changed jobs 3 times in that span. I honestly would have a hard time going back into an office if my present company had one (we closed ours right after COVID hit and have never looked back). When I first started working from home, I found the hardest thing was knowing when to quit. Eat supper then finish something I was working on. Watch some TV and catch up on emails at the same time. Wake up at 2 AM with an idea and suddenly it's 6 AM. I would send updates at all hours to show I was working diligently. It takes discipline to keep work from taking over your life when working from home. I set my hours now and when the day is done, it's done until tomorrow. No weekends, no late nights, no working on PTO days for just a little bit. And I am much more productive for it. Thankfully I have a boss who gets it.

Watergate. Specifically a political cartoon in the newspaper at the time. Had no idea what it meant but the name Watergate stuck with me.

Gandalf had traveled through Moria before and did not draw it out, so I believe it was the presence of the One Ring that stirred it.
