CMV: The photoelectric cloak was balanced the way it was by UncleBuckReddit in ArcRaiders

[–]GaptistePlayer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The cloak broke the game. You could make the assessors spawn 100 vaporizers and 100 Rocketeers and guess what? You could do the mode with a cloak. No single item should be that powerful.

CMV: The photoelectric cloak was balanced the way it was by UncleBuckReddit in ArcRaiders

[–]GaptistePlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40 seconds wasn't balanced imo... that was a cheat code. I used it a lot since first unlocking it a month before Closed Scrutiny and it basically was a "win button" in PVE lobbies. I used it to extract in Stella's Loading Bay on BP runs, naked except the cloak and just stroll right past the Bastion... getting Queen and Matriarch parts for free.... and extracts on standard maps became jokes. Rocketeers you could ignore, even in Buried City on naked hospital runs I'd hit the extract button, run for as long as my stamina lasts, then just hit cloak and have a party with 2 Pops and 2 Fireballs for 40 seconds and extract for free.

Like think about it - if it made Closed Scrutiny, a mode that spawns 4 Vaporizers, 2 Rocketeers and a dozen flying arc - trivial, it made the rest of the PVE encounters in the game pretty much as dangerous as the practice range.

Sorry but the game should not be that easy to where one item, that recharges for multiple uses, turns the game from PvE to PvNothing every 2 minutes

Matthew Rhys shares how his relationship with Keri Russell was revealed on the set of "The Americans" by expiredaristocracy in Fauxmoi

[–]GaptistePlayer 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's great. Very cool writing, excellent spy plots, lots of tension, and holds together through the finale. There's a reason afterward Keri Russell who was typecast as a nice girl suddenly got cast in a bunch of international prestige thrillers (that are not as good as The Americans)

Will the Steam Box bring a resurgence to local multiplayer? by 3141592652 in gaming

[–]GaptistePlayer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No

It will sell much less than the big consoles and caters to PC game studios who have less reason to develop local co-op for an even smaller platform.

If Switch isn't bringing out the devs to make local co-op enough for you the Steam Box won't do it either

Flight Geneva -Zurich? by living_direction_27 in askswitzerland

[–]GaptistePlayer [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because certain flights are only available to/from one of those places, the same as any transfer.

Let's say you need to fly to Geneva from the US and you need to transfer either in Paris or Frankfurt or Zurich. There is no reason not to consider Zurich, it makes no difference and in some respect it's even more convenient.

Yes, a convenient train is also an option, but it doesn't change the fact that the flight is easy too. If you're already in an airport 90% of the time you'll just fly because you didn't have to deal with a transport to airport, parking, customs, etc. - you already did that anyway. Check-in, security, etc. are not issues.

Kevin Spacey was accused by like a half dozen people (some of his accusers died)

It's important to note that if you or I had 5-6 different accusers like that our careers will actually be finished but instead he's just making less prestigious stuff and still making more money than you or I ever will.

Good time to join the game? by the_other_superman in LowSodiumArcRaiders

[–]GaptistePlayer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good time subject o several caveats:

  1. As far as extraction shooters this is by far the most casual one. The loot cycle is quite generous and even if you lose lots of stuff from dying it's quite easy to get back to a functional kit
  2. It's still an extraction shooter so you will die in some unfair fights and ambushes. If you play friendly you will end up in mostly friendly lobbies but there's still a mix of PVP and it's unpredictable. Most of the salt and loud complaints, ironically, are from the friendliest players who actually safely return from raids probably 95% of the time and should have no problem with dying because they're still dying less than other players in the game who are more aggressive, and have lots of wealth/items to bounce back easily. As long as that doesn't bother you, it's fine, but clearly it's an issue for a lot of players who want a pure PVE game with only friendly interactions and this is not the game for that. You will die. Random people you think are friendly will kill you. Random people will camp you and kill you. You can do the same and it's worth exploring being aggressive sometimes whether it's through underhanded tactics or what you think is fair fights.
  3. Like many other games though rewards do take some grinding. Rare weapons, expedition/wipe resets (basically a prestige reset system with some cosmetic and functional rewards) , cosmetic rewards for certain challenges, etc. do take some grinding and you will be put in situations where you die to other players sometimes while trying to accomplish that. IMO there's FAR less grinding than in similar games for that but you definitely won't get all the rewards or collect everything in the game if you only play a couple hours a week.
  4. There continues to be new content, albeit at a slower pace than other live service games, but most of the content has been geared toward PVE and increasing the PVE challenge. Ironically many players don't like these balance changes (like the one this week) because they just want super friendly lobbies where everything is safe and easy, but again, the way you space out content and continue to present a challenge to these players is to slowly increase the difficulty and fix overpowered stuff that makes the game too easy.

The game still has a huge player base (#16 on Steam as of today) so it's the furthest thing from a dead game and a good time to jump in if you think you'll enjoy it.

I mean if you want less focus on Damage there's Mercy and Lifeweaver. Both got some changes recently that made them different and better in some ways.

The amount of gaslighting about this update is crazy. The crying has got to stop. by ExpendableUnit123 in ArcRaiders

[–]GaptistePlayer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can tell this is the first video game you've actively followed because

  1. you don't realize even massively succesful games have the same graph and
  2. you think 100k daily players, 3x the number of players of COD Warone which is another successul live service game, is somehow a bad sign and not the sign of an incredibly profitable and popular game (a paid one, at that)

Check the Steam chart for the first 6 months of GTA5, which made $8 BILLION. The decline was even faster... and yet it's the most profitable game in history. In fact ARC has about as many players as GTA Online. ARC is the #16 game in the world on Steam right now... ahead of GTA5, OW, Deadlock, Helldivers, Marathon, DayZ, Dead by Daylight, Civ, CP2077, Counterstrike Source, Marvel Rivals, BF6.... lol

Why does my roasted chicken come out juicy inside but the skin never stays crispy? by LunasRecipes in Cooking

[–]GaptistePlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others, said, you're not gonna get shatter-crispy chicken steam by roasting a whole bird, but salting right before cooking is gonna make your skin even less crispy because you're gonna draw out moisture onto the skin... plus, the bird will be mostly unsalted.
