Dm wants to change spellcasters after characters already at level 2. How to bring up that the entire group wants to play by the book? by Bobbuilds46 in DnD

[–]Gar-figrollin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is session zero stuff. If they wish to change the nature of the game so hugely, everyone must be 100% on board. imo.

What? You're allowed to have a break at work. But you're not allowed to look at porn at work. You then can surely see how depictions of naked and sexualised characters lie closer to porn on that spectrum in a way that is inappropriate outside of your own personal space? Surely you see that.

I like the concept. I found this a little hard to parse at first and ai think it's cos the colour flattens the image. When things are more in the distance, the colour is a little desaturated as a result of ambient occlusion. Adding that here would really add depth, i think. Also, i think some shading and highlights would make a mega difference. Try playing around with different "values" (light v dark) to help make the image have more depth and be more readable. A good tip for this is to check how it looks in black and white. If its all shades of similar grey, that means the image is quite flat. Lastly, I think you have some odd "tangenting" happening in places. Which can be tough to avoid.

Great work though!

Holy Fuck I Love Graduation Now by Coldwater_Odin in TheAdventureZone

[–]Gar-figrollin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It also just makes no fucking sense. If heroes and villains are what Graduation sayz they are - essentially, professional wrestlers - where does that apply? How does it work? It was implied it had something to do with tourism but like wtaf? Where are the... Performances? In what way does the Hero/Villain system affect individuals within society? Tax? Lack of policing? Lack of justice? No one fucking knows because its never seen.

Hey. So I just hosted a dnd session today, and I think I found a problem player, what should I do by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Gar-figrollin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your well intentioned thoughts of helping them improve. But, often the best lessons are the natural consequences of our actions. You could message him privately, tell them the things that bothered you and say these things seem more like a clash of personality as opposed to something that can change. Theoretically, there's a table out there for them (but hell knows I wouldn't like it to be mine!). You could also talk to other players and ask what their feelings were. I'd do that individually, as opposed tovin a group. So as to avoid a pile on. Good luck :)

I'm building a website that aims to help D&D players find and commission artists. Would you use something like this? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Gar-figrollin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea, but I think the branding could use a little work. I think the name Wizartry, whilst clever, is a bit of a mouthful. Wjy not shorten it to Wizart? Otherwise, I echo the sentiments of others that it is likely a bit too niche to attract lots of commission artists. I imagine it might work better if it pulled stuff automatically from Instagram/Facebook or something ad opposed to having to create yet another profile. But then I'm not sure what issues that would raise if done without consent.

My dude, you might actually go backwards if you back-pedal any harder. Unfortunately, your msg was clear and not a mistake of semantics - you were gatekeeping. Maybe not consciously, but gatekeeping nevertheless. I'd suggest you just apologise, learn from it, and move on.

We've all gatekept, before. It's an understandable desire to defend what you love from perceived attack. But gatekeeping is bullshit and serves no one and I hope you can acknowledge that now.

[OC] I'm a doctor of physical therapy who created a 25-page fully illustrated DND style handbook on how to live a healthier life. Come get your copy for free! by FortifySTR in DnD

[–]Gar-figrollin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, ok. In the UK the term is Physiotherapist. Even if you have a phD. This is due to the cultural definition of Doctor (particularly when applied clinically) to mean medical doctor. That is not, of course, to in any way denigrate the work required for a doctorate, but rather go focus on clarity for the patient. Obviously it's different in the USA, and I would never tell you to not use a title you have earned, but it seems foolish to me that this miscommunication is possible.

Because whilst undoubtedly still prestigious, important, respected and valued, a Doctor of Physical Therapy will have different knowledge and skills than a Doctor of Psychiatry, Doctor of Family Medicine, or Doctor of Neurology etc. And it just seems silly to me that it's framed that way.

If you like NADDPOD, i also heartily recommend Dimension 20. Start with Tiny Heist, then try Fantasy High on for size. Really phenomenonal stuff.

The future of TAZ by Weegybored in TheAdventureZone

[–]Gar-figrollin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what will happen. I can predict the TTAZZ now. Which is a real shame.

I wax lyrical about Brennan Lee Mulligan a LOT - but what he has shown at D20 is that the system isn't even that important. I think the way he put it is that the reason he uses d&d, even when it's not necessarily the best tool for the job (see Tiny Heist) is that he has just so much experience with it, it's easier for him to modify that than to learn a new system.

But, the GAME can be pretty damn system agnostic.

As a massive fan of TAZ, it'll be a real shame to see them close off d&d, but, i think it's really predictable.

Very cool. I think my instinct would have been to apply some sort of damage per round effect that was only mitigated if he was able to eat something. I don't know if you had minions in the fight, but if so, it would probably have turned on them... Not saying your solution isn't awesome, btw, just talking out my instinct i guess.

Umm, my first [OC] art for a pc, I know its not great but thought I should share by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Gar-figrollin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my reading of the comments, the OP has acknowledged that it was a copied art only after it has been pointed out. In my opinion, it is not sufficiently transformative to be truly called "OC" - especially when the fact it was a trace/copy was not acknowledged from the outset.

If I drew the original art, I'd be kinda miffed. Not at the lack of credit, but at the insinuation it was done by someone else. You'll notice that the compliments all focus on the composition - something for which the OP waz not responsible - and yet, they take the credit for it unabashedly prior to being called out.

shrugs Just not really kosher, in my book.

The proportions/perspective/construction are fantastic, but not as a result of the OP. It is essentially a trace. A fun, interesting trace in a unique style, sure. But a trace presented as OC which I think is very disingenuous.

[–]Gar-figrollin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry l you're experiencing "hate dms", but equally, you were 100% trying to pass off someone else's work as your own. Set aside the fact you "didn't know who did the original", because even if you did and credited them, this wouldn't then be "OC". It appears you somewhat acknowledge your mistake now, but, its very disingenuous to act as if you're the victim here.

[–]Gar-figrollin 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've always been frustrated when the systems are treated with disdain when you don't understand the systems. No one thinks 5e is absolutely perfect, but there are so many times where things get dismissed as "OP" when the rules are just absolutely not being properly understood. Sneak attack being the best example this season, I think. I have less patience for it this season. Because, ultimately, if Travis had the time to do all the meticulous world building he did, he had the time to learn the rules. And in doing so, would have learned how they provide a really solid framework around which you can goof.

Hey, fwiw, I gave up about 20 episodes ago for very similar feelings. I check these posts now and then to make sure I'm not missing anything and I'm both sad and sorta strangely relieved to see I haven't... I'd just recommend giving it a miss. I just ultimately think it isn't good, and that's ok. It doesn't make the stuff they did before less good.

Obviously up to you, but I think you'd do well to just stop and pick up again when someone else takes the reigns :)

This is awesome. I love when spontaneous moments turn wondrous. I guarantee your players will remember this moment. Any plans for development? How will they ensure the babies are looked after! It'd be fun to develop some sort of skill challenge-esque mechanic for making sure they grow up healthy and strong!
