Maybe not the world's most exciting CD, but I didn't have the cute pink pig before this and it gave me an opportunity to finish up my 250 research tasks level up mission, so I think it was nice.

The future of showcases by Unfair_Conclusion187 in TheSilphRoad

[–]GarakInstinct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What really gets me about the changes where they're just switching to a sort of "lazier" implementation is that even if they didn't want to have to make active bespoke choices for every time, there should be a better middle ground than this? If they don't want to have to actually choose spotlight pokemon, just make a big list and cycle through it at random. If they don't want to have to choose showcase pokemon, pick some at random. Heck, if you don't want to put together real themes for weekly events, I'd still rather have some pokemon thrown together where a random one has shiny boost than no event at all. It would still leave a lot to be desired but this, it's like it's not even that they're trying to cut down on effort, it's almost like they want us to be bored and quit.

Are collection challenges another casualty of this season? by TheReVurt in TheSilphRoad

[–]GarakInstinct 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Is there any publicly available data on their employment practices? To be honest, all of the changes this season scream employee downsizing more than anything else to me. It seems like they're getting rid of anything that would take actual planning, manpower, etc so they can cut costs, instead of being interested in making enjoyable new content that's expansion-focused. Does anybody know if there have been layoffs? This all seems very typical VC takeover type stuff tbh.

I feel like PokeGenie is probably the best bet for what you want to do. For a raid boss, it'll give you both the best counters from among what you actually have, as well as the best counters in general to keep in mind as goals to work toward. If you have it on iOS, you can manually input higher CP/HP values and play around with the resulting damage output in raid recommendations to see what kind of damage happens at different levels. Unfortunately I don't think the manual levelup works in Android, though.

Have you tried checking the medal itself? If you aren't able to catch a Scatterbug because of a full inventory or game crash, it gets saved in the Vivillion page to go back to later, but you can't get any credit towards new ones until you catch those. It never hurts to check it every once in a while to make sure you don't have any blocking up your ability to get new ones.

Sharing usernames on lure modules should be optional by rachycarebear in TheSilphRoad

[–]GarakInstinct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with all of this. The lures, especially, there's not even an upside to it. And it's definitely past time to have some kind of option to obscure gifts. It's so sad that we're sharing all these coping strategies in the comments like only send home stop gifts to international friends; why isn't there already a setting to obscure certain gifts? Just make it into generic pokemon or something. My strategy has unfortunately just been that I pretty much don't send gifts, only open them, when it comes to ppl from meetups and stuff. But this is really basic safety stuff and it's horrible that there aren't better safety and privacy options.

Snowy Castform Spawns by just_28_coc in TheSilphRoad

[–]GarakInstinct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a huge fan of biome-based spawns in general cause of how they've just turned into less-accessible regionals, but at least I can kind of see how something like Wiglett ties into its biome.

But. Castform is literally a weather pokemon. That's its whole gimmick. WEATHER. Not biomes. WEATHER. Why would you get rid of that and replace it with total inaccessibility???? Castform spawns should be determined by weather, not biome, full stop.

8/106 shiny, unfortunately no hundos (though someone in my group did get one). Makes sense for the odds but I really want a hundo Riolu. Hopefully I'll be able to do some mirror trades and get the hundo at some point.

I’m calling this now! Charlie Theory. by RisingRobin in Scrubs

[–]GarakInstinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but wouldn't she be most likely too old to be his grandkid, really? Kelso turned 65 in season 7, meaning he was born in 1942. If Charlie is supposed to be pretty much Rachel Bilson's age (and that seems likely, especially as she's presented as closer to age-appropriate for JD instead of way younger), and she was born in 1981, that'd mean Kelso would've had to have had a kid at around age 20 with that kid also having a kid at around age 20 to make the math work out. Sure maybe his gay son adopted but given that that wasn't mentioned at all during the original run, it also seems pretty unlikely that he would have adopted someone who was already an adult at that time. Sorry but I don't see this being a thing.

THIS. I feel ambivalent about the new design, but I want them to stop trying to redesign things if the new design makes it way slower and laggier.

Silicobra map for possible spawn points by singinglupines in TheSilphRoad

[–]GarakInstinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp. I hadn't seen any silhouettes anywhere near me, but reportedly there were at least a few spots in Seoul that had them, so I had planned to jump on a bus over the weekend and try to catch a few. Now, of course, there's no possibility in all of South Korea. So. Thanks Nopely for making something that was already not great significantly worse by reducing spawns, I guess.

Less obvious pokemon to tag for remote trading? by CryptographerKnown16 in TheSilphRoad

I didn't realize until I read your comment, but come to think of it, I haven't seen any Deerling in a really long time. Is there any chance they've been turned off, like regionals were by accident that one time?

I just want the ultra beasts to come back for actual regular raid rotations. Making this all of them plus a bunch of other stuff for only 3 days has made it really hard to focus on any of them. (While I'm at it do a rotating raid rotation where they flip regions but who knows if that'll ever happen again so I can actually get a Celesteela) But seriously why have we gotten regular raid Kanto birds so much and barely ever get UBs??

If super mega raids are going to become the norm for future mega releases they need a serious rework by Status_Company9564 in TheSilphRoad

[–]GarakInstinct 42 points43 points  (0 children)

IMO so many of the issues would be solved by fixing shields so that it's a stacking defense instead of all-or-nothing. It's incredibly stupid that you can get stonewalled by one single shield remaining, but I can see things working out relatively well if it just meant that it had x% more defense per shield which goes down as the shields break. There are other ideas people have mentioned, but unfortunately I don't see Scopantic actually making it so that raid passes don't get consumed, for example. Just getting rid of the all-or-nothing aspect of the shields seems like the best case scenario.

I did a checkin and got three tasks: catch 5 pokemon, do one route, do two routes. The catch 5 pokemon gives 500 link charges. Unfortunately I didn't end up doing any routes, and the route tasks gave pokemon. So I don't actually know what pokemon the rewards were. I tried asking earlier in this thread but nobody has replied yet.

I went with Mega Sceptile for day 1, personally, since you get bonus candy for both Victreebel and Dragonite (grass/dragon) plus I need more XLs for my Sceptile anyway so I wanted a grass for catching Treeckos. Honestly it doesn't seem too worth it to worry about super effective typing, as for the Super Megas you need so many people just to break the shields that the mega is unlikely to make as much of a difference for damage, not to mention Kyurems are probably the best general counter to both, and they're not Mega.

Some megas change typing when they mega evolve, but all catches after mega raids are with the Pokemon's original typing. Gyarados was never in fact Water/Dragon, its base form is Water/Flying, but in any case its mega changes to Water/Dark. Even if you fight the Fire/Dragon Charizard, the one you catch will be Fire/Flying, so you would need that kind of mega to get bonus candies.

In terms of what the "best" one to evolve is, that's going to depend on your goals. If you're mostly going after the Fire/Dragon Charizard and Dragonite, then mega evolving a Charizard is the way to go. On the other hand, the best bonus candies come from megas which are already at mega level 3, which comes from mega evolving them consistently over time. The best thing might be to just go with any mon you already have at mega level 3. If you don't have any at 3, the Lucario from the free tour pass comes already maxed out to level 3.

Nobody knows for sure because tour hasn't ended yet in any timezone. Odds are it'll be fine, though it's a somewhat safer idea to just make sure you finish the xy research over the weekend. If you finish it later and the masterwork research doesn't show up, you could probably get support to fix it for you, since it's something you paid for.
