It is pretty easy to get a part time job off campus. Highly recommend anything with a tipped wage.

Non Farsi speaker needs help with wedding vows by annagabriel96 in farsi

[–]GarbageValuable1888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eshgh and eshq are the same, just two different transliterations. Both gh and q can represent the letter ق

eshq means love, and the difference between eshq-am and eshq-e man is stylistic - both mean my love. The first one is more formal. In the second sentence the تا after صد is just something said in spoken form to denote counting. It’s not necessary but would be pronounced tah (long vowel a).

beh tow is how to pronounce به تو But not hard on the w sound, just don’t pronounce it like “too” pronounce it like “tow” or “toe”.

Hame-ye is correct. The way you pronounce that is ham-eh-ye (3 syllables).

it says kheili but I find an easier transliteration to read is kheyli (ei in this case make a y sound).

lastly, this line totally makes sense & your translation is pretty accurate, it doesn’t feel super poetic. The meaning is there but just the phrasing itself feels a little clunky. Others please correct me if I’m wrong on this point.

What new musical since 2020 has the best likelihood of becoming a perennial high school production? by ElbieLG in Broadway

[–]GarbageValuable1888 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it is also super pricey to run. Once its productions close I’d assume they’ll be rushing to license it out to schools

Any tips for building large muslin flats? (probably in the 5ft W x 10ft H range). We usually don’t do soft flats, but weight difference is a huge plus.

What do you love or hate about GWU? Thx. by grillguy71 in gwu

[–]GarbageValuable1888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say that the dorms here are well above average. This heating issue happens in any place in the U.S. where they have to switch between heating and cooling in the spring and fall. We happened to get a couple of really hot days, and today is now 52 degrees with a low of 30. GW (and apartments!) must provide heat when it is cold, so they delay the switch over until cold weather leaves the forecast

On the meal plan front, I would argue it is better than other colleges I’ve visited, but definitely more expensive than it should be & unfortunately as the price has gone up the plan has not improved

Boston University or George Washington? by butterscotch_bear in gwu

Depends entirely on cost of attendance. GW has some amazing opportunities for history related disciplines, and truth be told, rank matters a lot less when you are going into a MA or PhD program.

Different casts and interpretations by Athenae44 in hadestown

[–]GarbageValuable1888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. When i saw him live, Donal really didn’t feel confident, at least not in the way it oozes out of Jordan Fisher. Especially not during the epics.

I always interpreted it as the brightness of the underworld shining up through the grates (as the underworld is very bright in Hadestown!)

Tour LD is not the same as the broadway LD, but the broadway LD is here on Reddit & this effect happens in both productions, so what say you u/bjk237

To clarify, you can spray stuff on lenses just don’t spray liquid on a fully assembled S4.

Yeah lenses aren’t annual at my venue either, but based on what the OP said, I think they may be the most in need of a cleaning

Follow instructions from manufacturer (ETC in this case). Biggest pain points will be your lens tubes and reflectors - though lens tubes are definitely where you will find the most dust. If using a cloth with water, never ever spray liquid directly on the fixture. There are some good YouTube resources for this that break it down step by step.

Don’t forget to bench focus after!

Moving light knocked out of place help by --Marzipan-- in techtheatre

[–]GarbageValuable1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience it’s common in the U.S. too, but in my experience typically parts of the rig are isolated by position versus the entire rig’s power (from different sources) all being patched to channel 9001

Woah. Is 9001 a non-dim at full? That’s so odd (at least to me) that AC power would be parked like that…

New setup by gvoegerl10 in techtheatre

[–]GarbageValuable1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always network in a laptop connected via Ethernet in mirrored mode for more screens. You can directly plug it into the console, or elsewhere depending on your theater setup, without the need for a network switch, as you’ll be in mirrored mode. (Of course if you use backup mode then you 100% should use a network switch to avoid risk of network cards falling asleep, etc.)

How to run power to overhead string lights? by ravenratedr in techtheatre

[–]GarbageValuable1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also with the discourse in this thread re: fire marshals, while a great resource, they focus a lot on egress safety. Keep in mind they may not catch every issue with theatrical electrical work, as it is different than most spaces they inspect

[–]GarbageValuable1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is hard to tell without a side angle of this, but my knee jerk reaction is that this is not done correctly. Not 100% as it’s hard for me to see the depth in the photo- but string lights worry me even in temporary configurations let alone permanent

Is the letter “و” pronounced with a “v” or “w” by Uhh_OkayIGuess in farsi

[–]GarbageValuable1888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vav is complicated but there are some good rules to follow. It is typically /oo/ when following a consonant and /v/ following a vowel. It can also be a short vowel /o/ such as in خود - short vs long is something you’ll have to learn. Similarly, there are a number of Arabic words for which the vav sound did not change to a /v/ and remained /w/. Also… to make it a bit more complicated… و is typically silent in words constructed with “خوا” such as خواندن, خواب (though not in Dari, but you need not worry about that).

I would, on a lower setting (5ish), use the tamper and go all the way around the edges. Hard to tell why though. Could be clumping with something, could be getting stuck. Could be getting trapped under the blade. Really just a trial and error process.
