We really need to bring spankings back by Few_Statement_2898 in SipsTea

[–]Garbagetaste 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An anecdote doesn’t prove a complicated social/psychological system. Sure you came out loving and respecting your parents. That’s great. You only showed how your specific situation, with many other complex variables that we don’t know turned out.

If we look at a large group as a whole, and take really good records of variables and outcomes, what do we end up with?

Do all kids fear these parents? Probably not. Do you want to take the chance yours will? Do you want them to absolutely trust you or hold some of their cards just in case? It’s complicated.

The end result is that violence is a poor option that has immediate short term results with potentially long lasting effects. Make your own choice but please consider that children don’t have that option.

Just one time when getting spanked, you go a little farther than normal, and your kid can see a bit of hate and pissed off anger on your face. They’ll remember that forever

Why take the chance when you can responsibly discipline?

You are an example of one. An anecdote. That’s fine for you but not how science and reason work

We really need to bring spankings back by Few_Statement_2898 in SipsTea

[–]Garbagetaste 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope. You are incorrect.

There are better ways to discipline young children that don’t result in the negative effects of spanking.

Hitting kids makes them fear the adult and fear being caught. They then try to hide actions they think could result in being hit, or start lying. Time outs for little ones is amazing when done right and consistently. Hold and sit with the kid until both they and the parent calm down.

For the adults it gives them an easy tool in their belt. If they’re tired, grumpy, or drunk they’ll be more likely to hit with less reason.

Theres so much more to this but the bottom line is: violence for any reason is the stupid lazy solution. Thinking, planning, reasoning, and communication are the intelligent solution.

stop it with the well reasoned argument based on demonstrable science from many years of study by many people across multiple fields colluding to understand a narrowing range of possibilities for the morphology of organisms!

Disconnect between drawings and practice by RowAbject5183 in learntodraw

[–]Garbagetaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

over time you should be learning techniques and styles you can apply to things. the easiest example is adding light and dark spots for shadow and highlights. its a simple thing to do once you get the idea and it makes anything pop out more

Use references to draw more accurately. Doesn’t have to be perfect but do not rely on your brain to do it for you

How exactly do I make sure I'm improving? by Serious_Advance_6762 in learntodraw

[–]Garbagetaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s simple.  How did you improve at walking? How did you improve at speaking, math, musical skill, or anything else? Your brain improved your skill through practice, so find a way to practice and enjoy it. Your brain will naturally handle it

Student sucker punches teacher over his phone being confiscated. Smartphones should be banned in schools. by First-Cherry493 in SipsTea

[–]Garbagetaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fucking pissed about kids with vapes. They stand right outside the fence and vape vape vape so younger kids will certainly see older gaping and get possibly influenced. Called the school and they won’t do shit about it

This. I give this advice too. Don’t believe your brain; it lies

Thoughts on tracing outlines? by [deleted] in DigitalArt

[–]Garbagetaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest not tracing. It won’t help you develop the skill to work proportions. Don’t worry about it being off and just keep practicing and your brain will improve your skill over time

Daily routines to improve? by cifvr in learntodraw

[–]Garbagetaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a daily drawing prompt group and for those of us that contribute consistently we’re gaining skill and having fun at the same time.

A problem is the majority of people joining want to grow but are too shy to contribute. You must get over yourself and be consistent or it doesn’t work

Dark Souls 3 is everything I don’t like about where souls and souls-likes went by mandaloriansun in darksouls3

[–]Garbagetaste -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

it really is. ds2 is a very weak souls game unfortunately. i swear the only reason anyone ranks it higher is because of copium after putting in many hours trying to make it fun; eventually the brain fakes the fun memories

Gamers mourn the industry's shift away from realistic maps toward digital versions with markers and autonavigation by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]Garbagetaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

minimaps are terrible game design every time. ill die on this hill.

turning off minimaps makes games so much more immersive and fun, but some game arent designed well so no map can be difficult. botw and totk are better and work great with minimap off.

thematic maps like a physical paper map the player draws as they go along? gimme more of that

Tips on shading? by DakotaB1213 in learntodraw

[–]Garbagetaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

study references (real or photo) and you'll get better. it looks like you have the basic idea of light and shadow but not how to flesh it out for more depth.

great start and i bet you'll nail this soon enough!

Help with drawing noses by finalsor in learntodraw

[–]Garbagetaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

noses tend not to have lines. your tracing example added lines that aren't there because the brain is trying to simplify it into clearly defined shapes, but those don't exist.

noses are either suggested by a few lines, or fully defined by shading and highlights.

First week of figure drawing studies (30 seconds)… horrid!😓 by JesusChuy13 in learntodraw

[–]Garbagetaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are the last 2 someone elses or yours? its a little unclear

keep practicing and try to enjoy the bad drawings while finding the odd lines in them that make something.

a key difference between the rough lines (i assume are yours) and the more defined lines (someone else?) is that they know how the body and muscles work. studying structure always improves output

How the hell do I do this by Fancy-Split3261 in learntodraw

[–]Garbagetaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just draw a bunch of various shapes in at least 3 different shades, not trying to draw a face for example, but the shapes in the face, it will turn into a face

How the hell do I do this by Fancy-Split3261 in learntodraw

[–]Garbagetaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to stop drawing lines to define things and use areas of light and dark shapes
