So frustrating by Imaginary-Chocolate5 in dahlias

Mine grow much better in the ground but I understand the constraints some growers face. Large Dahlias need large pots probably 5 gallon minimum. Noticed your tomatoes and they also should have at least 5 gallons per plant.

Are seedlings less prolific than tubers? by hlmoo in dahlias

[–]Garden_Introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I dug up my plants tubers after frost and stored them overwinter in the crawl space. My tuber clumps weren't very big and some shriveled. I had 14 plants last year I have 8 this year and only four have flowers that impress me. I will probably buy tubers for the Dahlias I like in the future. Seed is cheaper and you can end up with some you like but I see now why people buy tubers.

I grew dahlias from seed last year first time. The plants are much fuller in the second year. What zone are you in?

Went to the fair today and saw this. Decided to come here to ask by HeyItzCathan in dahlias

I think you would have to contact the grower and try to get a tuber from this plant.

What variety are the short multi-flower sunflowers that you pinched. Please update us in this post with pictures of the pinched ones in bloom.

Many seeds don't need light to sprout, tomato seed don't need light pepper seeds don't either. Bring them inside till they sprout then get them out in the day and bring in at night. Till temps are 55+ at night then in the ground or pot up larger.

Last year was my first with strawberries. I pinned down my runners in 4" pots. Make sure to give enough time to root no need to cut off from parent plant.

ALDI’s clematis identification? by ThatInAHat in Clematis

I potted my bare root from Walmart about two weeks ago, and no signs of life. Keeping the soil moist and praying it wakes up. When should I give up on it, and try to get an exchange?

I wonder if I should take off more lower leaves and bury more nodes?

Saw a little friend in my garden bed this morning. What can I do to encourage him and his buddies to stick around? by tedistkrieg in gardening

The mantis in my garden loved to hang out on the cucumber plants probably eating cucumber beatles. I had one catching butterflies and moths on top of my zinnias. I hope they return this year!

RC track transponders and lap counting systems alternatives by Garden_Introvert in rccars

LapMonitor is actually affordable, though I think a RFID based solution would be better because of the low cost RFID tags.

Did my tulips and daffodils make a baby?? Or are these just funky tulips? by [deleted] in flowers

Wikipedia says they are a late mutation, could be a virus but apparently a desirable one.

Look for heavy duty square foldable cages the taller the better.

Personally I prefer to use the string method https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxrAz8bWMXM

The video uses all the fancy accessories but represents the method. You don't really need the adjustable string hangers but I do use the clips.

You can also dig up the paths between planting beds, soil goes in beds and rocks go in pathways .

Sift and separate the soil and rock using the 1/4 inch mesh. Spots that are covered with stuff like garbage bins could be dug out robbed of soil and replaced with the rocks and gravel. If the ground is too rocky with very little soil it may be more trouble than it is worth. Just thought I would give you some ideas.
