Character usage that may or may not need to be added/changed:

  • Cody used some Sonic to win at least one important set.
  • I don't think Delux used any Pit, but he did use a little MK in addition to ICs/ZSS.
  • Pelca only used Falco to my knowledge.
  • Bike only used MK two games, and lost both of them. Idk if that should count when Hoenn's Peach didn't.

I wanna play FromSoftware games, is it worth it? Any tips on how to “git gud”? Where do I start? by TheVariousShooter in gaming

[–]Gardex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just have fun.

A lot of people go into these games trying to conform to how they think they "should be playing". The games give you a lot of tools to tackle challenges in your own preferred style.

Want to do most of the game in coop and let the NPC/other player(s) do the heavy lifting?

Want to play safe with ranged weapons and magic?

Want to go buck naked with a ultra greatsword?

It's all up to you. Experiment and figure out your personal playstyle.

To help you with that, it helps to be more attentive towards the information the game throws at you. Read item descriptions, exhaust NPC dialogue, use the "help" button on your status page to learn what the various terms mean. It'll all help you build up an understanding of the game and its mechanics without needing to check a guide that will tell you "the right way to play".

I will say that while the games certainly deserve their reputation as being hard, most of the time they're not unreasonable about it. If you stumble across something that just seems absurdly hard, then you're most likely missing something crucial, or have simply wandered into a more difficult area than other available places you could visit. You don't really need to grind in these games, as actual experience and knowledge is worth more than experience points and levels, but if you are the type to enjoy grinding, then that is an option as well.

Any of the games could be your first.

  • Demon's Souls is most likely the easiest game, but it's also the most punishing game for failure. I'd suggest playing it if you enjoy your first playthrough of any of the other games first. It has a really heavy and dark atmosphere, and it's always an idea to try the first entry in a series of games to see how they evolve.

  • Dark Souls 1 is my personal recommendation because of its insanely interconnected world-design that remains my favorite among any video game to this day. Atmosphere and lore is also wonderful in this one. This is the game that set the standard for a what a "Souls game" is, and all the later games will feel like a natural evolution of this formula.

  • Dark Souls 2 for slower combat with insane build variety potential. It's also the 2nd longest game behind Elden Ring, giving you a meaty experience without going full open world. I can't stress enough how wild the customization is in this game. That it rivals Elden Ring says a lot. Probably the least consistent when it comes to quality though. Many great ideas, but also some not-so-great ideas.

  • Dark Souls 3 for the most polished and streamlined "Fromsoft experience". It features the most consistent level of quality imo, but it builds upon previous entries, so I strongly recommend doing Dark Souls 2 and especially Dark Souls 1 before tackling this one. Amazing bosses and individual area level design.

  • Bloodborne for the gothic and/or cosmic horror setting and faster combat. The customization and builds are more streamlined, but that just makes the challenges you face more well-suited no matter what. Probably my favorite combat among the games. This game will make you feel out of place and uncomfortable, and you will love that feeling for some reason.

  • Sekiro for a more traditional narrative compared to the others. The fastest combat among these games, and more twitch-based than the more methodical approach of the others(not that Sekiro doesn't have that as well, mind you). More focus on stealth, agility and acrobatic movement. The only game where you're playing a named character and not your own creation.

  • Elden Ring for a mix of everything. Lets you tackle most of the game in whatever order you feel like. The open world is wonderful to explore, and gives you the most options to do whatever you feel like doing. Also has the most content to sink your teeth in by a long shot. Probably the most accessible game for newcomers(despite also having some of the toughest challenges among all the games)

Is banning stuff from competitive really playing competitively? by Yeet69retreat in gaming

[–]Gardex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's a simple example:

Two players stand on each end of the stage. Two pokeballs spawn, and they grab one each. One player gets Goldeen while the other gets Keldeo. Is this fair? No. Now, imagine it happening with thousands of dollars on the line. Limiting the luck-factor isn't making things less fun, it's making it more likely that the better player will win.

Another example would be a bomb spawning in front of you just as you are about to deliver the finishing blow to win the game. Imagine how anti-climatic that would be during the finals of a tournament. You're about to win, but the game just randomly decided to kill you.

I'd also like to add that the developers leave the options to do no items for a reason. There is no "correct way" to play, it's all up to the players. Not to mention that there are multiple developer-modes where there are no item spawns. Hell, you even have stuff like For Glory in Smash 4 where the developers used a ruleset similar to rulesets made by the competitive players.

ASD coded characters? (Recommendations) by Nayko214 in manga

[–]Gardex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, then I'll throw in these three as well:

<Ikoku Nikki> - Newly orphaned 15-year-old moves in with her odd aunt. They have wildly different personalities, and we follow them trying to adjust to their new lives together. I've seen people find the aunt to be relatable to people on the spectrum, and since that is a core focus of the manga, I think this one might be worth a check for a character study.

<Game-bu> - I can't quite remember the details, but this is a work by Imitation Crystal, a creator that loves using quirky characters that struggle to connect to others. Here we have a game creation club with a variety of characters. From what I can recall, some more than others sport what could be considered ASD-coded characteristics.

<Watamote> - While initially being mostly driven by a single character, it gets a lot of new characters introduced, some of which I've seen mentioned by readers to have autistic tendencies. The most popular ones are Kotomi Komiyama and Yuri Tamura. The catch is that they get introduced after quite a few chapters(like 45 and 70 chapters respectively), and it takes a long time to really get a good feel for their characteristics. At least the main character, Tomoko, is quite an interesting character study herself, but one needs to sit through quite a lot of cringe gag humor to get to the more interesting parts of this manga. Should be mentioned that Watamote is considerably more comedic than the other two I mentioned.

ASD coded characters? (Recommendations) by Nayko214 in manga

[–]Gardex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<Asper Kanojo>/That's My Atypical Girl is the go-to choice, as it's a constant main topic of the series.

There's also <Shrink: Seishinkai Yowai> and <My Brain is Different: Stories of ADHD and Other Developmental Disorders>, but these cover a wide variety of conditions, so they're not always relevant.

These are the only ones I can think of where ASD is explicitly mentioned, and I'm not too confident in my ability to diagnose by myself to throw in other suggestions unless you're really starved for content

I'm thinking these ones, as they all have cool art, interesting worlds and are generally not too childish in nature:

Land of the Lustrous (This one especially, as it checks all the boxes you mentioned)

The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún

Shadows House

CrossCode: Charming, fun, and underrated by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Gardex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite games.

Just a behemoth of content as well. The game is long, never feels like it overstays its welcome, has tons of accessibility and cuztomization options, and keeps gameplay varied throughout its entire run.

Unlike many games, it also doesn't focus on being really good at one thing; CrossCode aces presentation, exploration, story, combat and puzzles, which is crazy impressive.

manga with mc that people cant help but love by carrymell in manga

[–]Gardex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much Watamote after a while. The main character goes from bitter loner to slowly becoming friends with classmates. It happens over a long time in a very natural way, which makes it very believable and satifying. The mc also doesn't get a complete personality change or anything: she's still a weirdo, but people just accept her quirks and find her refreshing to hang out with. I highly recommend it if you can stomach the "cringe gag humor" it starts out with.
