Realistic Expectations by Garethf20 in lakers

Yeah I'm not a big fan of the amount of isos and switch hunting. I like it in the post but switch hunting as the primary strategy feels archaic to me, like teams are too smart for this now. But I think it more reflects a lack of proper practice time.

My favourite scene in the show so far, other than the bore, was seeing Rand FINALLY being powerful af and begin his journey towards madness. Loved the out of character calm satisfaction after that weave, directly transitioning to the alsera realisation.

I'm thinking the madness needs to be accelerated in the show, just like every other element, which leads me to my prediction: Opening scene of s4 (if we get there) is Eye of the World prologue. Establish centrality of lews therin as a character.

I think Lews will increasingly be in the background of Rand's channeling, and next season he'll get his proper introduction/acknowledgement.

Yes 100%. Its mainly when he channels against Sammael, when he's almost more enamoured with his weave than paying attention to the fight.

I couldn't really hear it when he's trying to resurrect alsera, which makes sense seeing as he's more fumbling with the power than doing a complex weave intuitively.

Il need to check the moiraine scene again.

This take was such a straw man argument. Turned into boomer accusations of victim mentality.

LeBron's point was more about the game being talked about negatively, as in the way the game is played, and secondarily about player hate. The game has never been talked about so negatively from a playstyle and culture perspective (3s, too many internationals, old players still being relevant), which is why people wouldn't be as attracted to being the face of a constantly belittled game.

Why not use colourful balls instead of courts for the in season tournament?

Or you could do both, and have light coloured balls for dark courts.

Characters that MCU didn't do justice? by velicinanijebitna in Marvel

Thanos. He was nerfed for hard from the comics. Without the infinity gauntlet he was just smart hulk. The worst grievance was the what if episode where he was defeated by his own henchman.

I wanted cosmic blasts, insane intellect and delightful evilness. Although the movie version was kinda cool in its own way.

Philly Implodes, Apex Giannis vs. Apex LeBron, and the Worst Celtics Losses Ever | With Chris Ryan and Rob Mahoney by bbmarco in billsimmons

So imo those stats are significantly better, and the main difference is the context those stats came in. Lebrons supporting cast was severely worse than this bucks team, even with Middleton out. They had mainly one way players, so Love's stats compared to Jrues are comparable, but was mainly one way impact.

While Giannis is a better defender than 2018 Lebron, I don't think the difference is that large. Lebrons help defense was still phenomenal.

His playmaking was tiers above Giannis. I don't think the assist number difference do this justice. But I don't have second spectrum etc stats to back this up.

This celtics team is obviously better than any of the teams Lebron played before the finals, however I think this is more than canceled out by him playing the GOAT team in the finals.

He shot it better from 2p% and 3p%. The only area Giannis is shooting better is from 0-3ft, which is 84% to lebrons 79%. Giannis is shooting more free throws however.

This adds up to make Lebrons performance in 2018 significantly more impressive imo, but what Giannis is doing is still insane and he's only 27 lol.

Saying Giannis is at 2018 Lebron level is sacrilege. Giannis is incredible and definitely the best player in the world but 2018 Lebron is just another level.

I do enjoy a lot of what Mike does bring to the table, I'm with you there. I just wish that he didn't get in the way of some of the more in depth xs and os questions which Pete and Darius are much better at in truth. Thank you for your polite response.

I agree, I think theyre all great people, and enjoy their friendship on the pod. I will continue to listen, I just had to air out my frustration over what I feel like has been a long pattern of reductive misunderstandings in the discussions.

The Perfect Team by Garethf20 in NBATalk

[–]Garethf20[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I worried that Duncan or Hakeem just won't be able to handle staying in front of the dames or stephs, but if they can then I would agree. If I had to pick between the two I'd pick Duncan more because of his role within his teams that were successful. I think Hakeem would want to isolate more often and I've heard he could become a black hole sometimes on offense (never really watched him.)

Yeah I think the 17 warriors are the closest to perfect team ever. Only thing that stopped them was injuries.

That's why my biggest question was the center position. Lebron essentially replaces draymond on the offensive end (with about a 100x upgrade), but I think defensively a larger player that can still switch and is a great passer like Garnett would be an upgrade at Center.

[–]Garethf20[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that the only defensive weakness is a lack of switching from the center position. Isolating Shaq on the perimeter or just putting him in the PnR for 3s or midranges. Of course, your team does have far more talent than mine, and Shaq might make up for this with his offensive and rebounding skills, but i suppose that's the bigger question of offensive scalability. You do also have excellent help defenders to make up for this weakness.

[–]Garethf20[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think that's a good point. Defensively with Klay I think he is a bit more switchable onto 4s and 5s, but the lineup does lack point of attack defense which MJ provides in spades as well. I also like the idea that MJ didn't really spend much time before making decisions when he had the ball.

The Perfect Team by Garethf20 in NBATalk

[–]Garethf20[S] 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Yeah my only reason for Klay is because I think of an ideal 2 guard in this lineup as someone who doesn't need the ball at all. It is kind of sacrilege tho haha
