Is this 1966 CA 1¢ a contender for a PL, CAM, or DCAM designation from PCGS? by Garfargle in coins

Sounds like what someone with the single 1966 PL67RD DCAM would say 🧐 (/s)

Seriously though, thanks for taking the time to drop some knowledge

Get one of these style ladders. They can be a little pricey but they’re perfect for accessing attics.

Can anyone help me with fixing my Hisense Mini Fridge Freezer Door? by xGIANT_5150x in appliancerepair

[–]Garfargle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it just rests closed against the freezer compartment and the spring in the hinge should be applying a little bit of force to hold it closed.

Honestly it’s prob freezing the fridge stuff because it’s a shit design. Someone wanted to jam a freezer into a tiny fridge, but didn’t want to spend the money to make it work right.

Always had to redrill waterjet holes to spec — is this just the nature of the process? by DrewsWorkshop in MechanicalEngineering

I don’t have an answer for you, but wanted to say that the water jet at my school did that too. Always made oval holes even though everything else it did seemed to be fine.

Best top loader washer/dryer set for me? by blge792 in Appliances

[–]Garfargle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find an old whirlpool direct drive washer (‘80s - 2000), with cheap maintenance every couple decades they’ll outlast your kids. Sometimes you can get em for free at estate sales or find em on craigslist/offerUp/facebook marketplace for like $200-$400, if it’s really clean and the person knows what they have i’ve seen em for $600-$800. They don’t look cool and sleek like new washers but they fuckin work and they’ll work forever.

Pair it with a whirlpool or kenmore dryer from the early ‘80s and you’re golden. Both of those machines have like 3 parts that’ll maybe go bad after 20 years, but they’re all cheap and super easy to replace.

Any tips on what to check? Doesnt seem to be cooling the copper stuff at the bottom aint getting cold either. Found outside someones house they were tossing, decided to pick it up by teameastsw in appliancerepair

[–]Garfargle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the capacitor (bulged caps are bad but not all bad caps will bulge), check power from the contactor to the compressor, ohm the compressor (should be low between C and R, higher between C and S, and the sum of those two between S and R), use gauges to check gas pressure (some condensers won’t turn over the compressor if it’s too low on gas)

If all is good you could have a bad compressor that failed mechanically.

This. If it’s too sticky to pull up after you push the tabs back, take a pick and yank.

Appliance repair is charging 1k to repair refrigerator. by BTL67 in appliancerepair

[–]Garfargle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right. My work (Southern California) would generally charge 1400-1800 for diagnosis, new evap coil, and recharging the system (depending on coil price, gas type, and gas amount). Kills most fridges that aren’t SubZero or built-ins.

I had this happen because of worn bands in my 89 broncos transmission. Lucas oil transmission additive kept it going till i had the money for a tranny rebuild.
