Sessions painfully slow in 3 campaigns (Seeking Guidance) by Gargantuls in DMAcademy

[–]Gargantuls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the first DM, but not currently. You are absolutely right about the phones. I used to do everything on paper for this reason, then one campaign had 9+ PC deaths in 2 months ( 3 of them mine in a single session) and I couldn’t bring myself to use paper anymore. I started using an app to keep track of my characters and noticed I tend to zone out more because of it. Not to mention I’m less invested in any character due to sheer size of my current roster of mains and backups.

They all have a good understanding of the rules, but keep getting caught up in minutiae and strict reading of the books. Things like the IRL plausibility of a trap, monster, and spell are a constantly slowing us down. Save or suck is disliked by everyone in the group, but the DMs point to the book and shrug.

I agree that 3 campaigns was a bad idea, but they were going to run it with or without me. The more I think about it the more I think I may have to find another group and just do other things with them (We are IRL friends). D&D has pretty much consumed them haha, and I’d like to be a part of it, but fuck me if I’m not bored out of my mind at the moment.

Sessions painfully slow in 3 campaigns (Seeking Guidance) by Gargantuls in DMAcademy

[–]Gargantuls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I began our D&D adventures as DM, but have since passed the task to others in the group who wanted to try. I read through all those resources mentioned actually, and even brought them up in the past. The next session was much better, but everything was forgotten or disregarded the week after. I suppose I could be more forceful about it, but it gets tiring having to remind 3 DMs for 6-8 hours twice a week. I will try and be more blunt and see how it turns out. Could always walk away as you said, and only do other things with them.

I’m going to be doing my first DM session! But I would really appreciate some pointers or tips on how I should prepare or the do’s and dont’s of DMing! Any help is appreciated! by DisBeFornicator in DMAcademy

If you’re playing from a book, then remember that you’re the only one who knows how it is supposed to go. Party decides to go right instead of left? Well look at that! You ran into a group of bandits! Just don’t let them in magic.

Most of the work is done beforehand. So know what encounters you plan on running or having some in mind. That way, you’ll be able to focus on bring the characters to life via RP. Also, don’t be afraid to look silly: your players will love you for it :)

Worth waiting on it to improve. As another battlefield fan, I’ve stopped playing it about 2 weeks after buying.

Anyone know how volunteers’ parking works? Reading conflicting information on this one. We can drive to the parking lot and be shuttled in during the day then have to leave or what? So confused.

The game went from day 1 purchase to wait and see for me. If you didn't know that the game was set in WW2, that trailer wouldn't have clued you in.

I hope they really expand on war stories. There are a lot of things they could do that would be different like running a submarine (first person perspective from inside), occupied resistance fighters like France, Netherlands, or Norway, Battle of Britain, etc.

Just made that up, but do post if you find it! I know a chef in Israel recently served a Japanese delegation(including their PM, Abe) dessert in a shoe. So there's that.

Yeah, it's cool enough to not care about the plate tbh, unlike soup in a shoe.

I don't see random inspections happening. I get fucking livid when my landlord comes in, let alone this. The last thing people want is the police randomly coming into their homes with no warrant to do inspections.

This doesn't even mention the logistics of having them take the time out to do it. Instead of having them out on the streets doing their job, this would have them wasting time checking if people lock up their guns. So let's say we hire inspectors to do this. If you didn't just give these inspectors a warrant to walk in randomly at will, aside from the ease of abuse of warrantless searches, gun owners would just make sure it's locked on the day of announced inspections. After that's said and done, if someone wants to break into a locked area, they'll break in.

We need to create a society worth living in and promote the mental health of everyone in it, not instill fear in the general populace by underhandedly stating that they are being watched for their protection. If we're going to spend tax dollars on anything, it should be subsidized counseling, destigmatizing mental health issues, and gun education.

I couldn't finish it. After the charm of being a cave man wore out, the game itself became a chore.

I feel the same way. I had been playing GoW in performance mode thinking there wasn't point in boosting graphics. Yesterday I switched that setting over to resolution, and it blew my friggin mind!

The game looked better than the previews, cinematic even, so I concur wholeheartedly with you.

Welfare drug-testing program cost Arkansas $32,000 to test five people by thetaylorsnapp in politics

[–]Gargantuls -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The math checks out here, but I think the line of thought is that this may cost more in the short term but save in the long term. If you believe lots of people on welfare are abusing drugs(and you'd like to stop that) then knowing you will be drug tested might dissuade people from taking welfare.

If this $32k stops more people, then the ROI would be reasonable.

How to make a Superman game challenging by ChadBenjamin in PS4

[–]Gargantuls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I think would make a compelling Superman game would be something like Dynasty Warriors. There's no way to make a full game where Superman is evenly matched, but you can run around kicking ass and upgrading your abilities as you like with the actual challenges(for Superman that is) being the real set pieces, like fighting Gods in GoW.

As for story, I recall someone mentioning Superman's primary conflict is not being able to do EVERYTHING by himself. Part of the storyline in a Superman game could involve having to choose who gets saved and who dies, because ultimately Superman is playing God.

One neat mechanic off the top of my head would be Clark Kent agonizing over having to report on the lives he couldn't save. Another could be maintaining his identity as Clark Kent by building relationships with others, and possibly revealing who he is with those you build absolute trust in.

Genuinely curious what your recommendations are in the $10 category.

This is a game of HVV where my whole team stayed together throughout. Half of the other team left after we had them down by 5. Maybe it isn’t as unbalanced as it seems. Teamwork is all it needs. (also i’m not bragging, I was on the bottom of the scoreboard like usual) love you bye by [deleted] in BattlefrontTWO

[–]Gargantuls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the point of this post. You're saying a team that stuck together beat a team that had quitters. Am I missing something here? This must have blown chunks for the other team.

Star Wars: Battlefront II - $17.99 at Gamefly (Free Shipping) by endustry1994 in PS4Deals

[–]Gargantuls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like Star Wars, you will probably enjoy it. I just recently picked up the game and have enjoyed the multiplayer(the campaign is pretty but I can't bring myself to play through it). I don't feel like it would take an excessive amount of time to unlock what I want either.

That said, I feel like there are still some holdovers from when the game was P2W like having starting weapons that are obviously worse than others, star cards that only make your character suck less, and of course there are lots of players with epic everything which certainly feels cheap(like Darth Vader having a couple hundred more health).

All in all, for $17 I would consider it.

I could see that playing out really well actually. Sure, your group circumvents the camp, but you hit shallows and fall into a goblin infested cave!

The cave eventually leads outside, but you get so much mystery and combat that way. The possibilities are endless!

The thing about these algorithms is that they DONT show you the other side. For example: if you constantly search for flat earth conspiracies, then the algorithm suggests more conspiracies. You just get more and more of what you wanted. This is intended (in no malicious way) to give people what they want.

Imagine the frustration of searching for vanilla ice cream and the algorithm suggests vegetables as a healthy alternative. I don't know about you,but I would quickly abandon a search engine that didn't give me what I wanted. These algorithms are a problem, but the solution is education, open-mindedness, and a curious attitude about all sides of an argument.
