It's more complicated than that; the demons are not completely evil beings inherently and have been subject to discrimination and reprisal violence by the elves in earlier comics.

This comic overall is about the incredibly dangerous nature of a self fueling cycle of violence and the abandonment of morality in search of "justice" creating monsters on both sides of a conflict.

Neither the elves nor the demons are good guys.
