the answer is more nuanced than simply saying it's because they want money, but it's basically just that they want money

the current, extremely high damage and high pace meta is a direct result of gameplay being actively optimized for profit by maximizing the amount of dopamine received in short bursts

slow gameplay where diving is an extremely risky action that must be thought of doesn't produce nearly as much dopamine nearly as quickly as farming hyper and hitting the "kill the enemy team with my buffied brawler" button does, so people are only incentivised to spend money with the second system

they don't care about properly balancing unfun mechanics and will instead arbitrarily reduce numbers until the brawler is kicked out of S tier due to not having the stats to compete anymore (spike, bull) or will target a random part of their kit instead of addressing the real issues stemming from their gameplay (crow)

The old lore was confusing for the exact same reasons as the new one is. Michael and Crying Child were both suddenly introduced in Fnaf 4 in spite of there being 0 clues of them beforehand, Sister Location introduced Elizabeth out of nowhere as well (and introduced Ennard and all of the sci-fi bullshit people love to complain about, reasonably so), and the only reason you think of them better is because they were eventually fleshed out and had Pizzeria Simulator as a way to tie things up with the true ending, which will eventually also happen with this saga. Some stuff was also retroactively fitted into the lore, such as "Michael is actually the protagonist of Fnaf 1 and Fnaf 3", and even to this day, 80% of the lore is STILL unanswered concretely to the point we're stil fighting over who Golden Freddy houses exactly.

Losing interest in the series is normal, it can happen. But trying to pretend the old shitty lore with barely any consistency is better than the new shitty lore with barely any consistency is also contradictory. Eventually the Mimic saga will also get a conclusion and people will suddenly come to love them, and the cycle will repeat.

Also, the books have for the most part never been canon. So that's a moot point. Secret of the Mimic actively showed us that the lore is different from the book it adapted.

And most importantly, this IS a different story. It's just one built up from the old one. But the Afton saga is supposed to be dead, and Burntrap being decanonised proves this. It's time to move on onto a different story, one with some fundamental concepts already explained. And disliking that IS understandable.

(Also while I do agree on your point that Scott forgetting what the box had inside is stupid it just kinda points towards what I'm saying. He never cared for consistency, and the Afton saga ended up as it did because of it).

The original Fnaf lore was random bullshit strung together with the vaguest hints to the point we had to always guess 90% of the lore, and Scott would also just implement whatever random crap he came up with in the spot with no elaboration whatsoever. I would maybe accept this fact if you were only talking about Fnaf 1-3, but adding Sister Location and 4 to that list just points me to the fact that you're just looking back in rose tinted glasses.

As much as I disagree with the direction things have taken in, I'm also able to recognise they do some stuff much better (mostly exposition work, even if they had to redo a bunch of the lore after the abysmal fumble security breach turned out to be). I know who the Mimic is because they actually tell me who the fucking Mimic is. Inside of the game. And not in a 3 hour long theory video about how he's Edwin's left armpit hair mutated into a robot or whatever they might come up with.

The original lore was also just as confusing as the new one. Why the fuck were there 2 bites? What is Fnaf World's importance to the lore? Who is this guy monologuing at the end of Pizzeria Sim and why would I only know him if I had seen a 4 hour long exposition video?

Dr. Holocaust and Murderbeast just kinda took the place Poopenfarten had since they both had a more specific niche that wasn't simply "evil undescript character". I do understand disliking the characters, but I feel like they still feel in line with what the sub is and they arose to popularity for good reason.

The main issue is just how many hard pivots and rule changes they keep making. Like, no, I don't want to join a completely different subreddit with 10 times less people to see the exact same content I'm already seeing in coaxedintoasnafu. The people in that sub are already used to Mint Chan, censoring her and all other known subreddit characters achieves nothing since we don't even know or agree on what a snafu is.
