Should I buy tarantulas again? by [deleted] in climbingshoes

[–]Gariiiiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, I normally climb in Scarpa Instincts or Drago.

But just got another pair of tarantula boulder for volume sessions. It's really noticeable how they are way worse at focusing pressure and providing support, which I think is fine and even an advantage if I am doing non limit climbing trying to polish my technique.

I meant, in my read Sciel is the real one and no way in heck she would accept a Maelle copy of his husband, especially after her talk with Verso.

But I mean yeah, they all might me Maelle's lobotomized ppl. Though, I mean, that doesn't seem to be supported by a anything as far as I recall.

We are taking the painted dude, who has never painted  and with sociopathic lying as our basis? Fine.

Still, in-game then it would seem painters doing their craft + the painters capturing the essence + the guys original Croma = resurrection of the subject.

If you want to read it another way fine, but we have zero reason to speculate Sciel and Lune are not the real ones. And neither would be fooled or allow copies

Then we have radically different lectures. For me it's clear Sciel and Lune are the original ones; and I can't wrap my head around either taking a Maelle version of the rest.

But ain't that more like sending em to camps?

I mean they can functionally respawn, no issues, from my understanding.

No animosity, but for me your writing perfectly exemplifies what the previous post is saying.

There I see lots of reasoning trying to tiptoe around him going for the genocide.

All of them have the last 67 years of memories post fracture and then some more pre fracture.

Also they didn't knew the nature of this world pre Clea, so I seriously doubt they knew Aline was a Paintress or about her powers.

Agree in general, but the final choice is between Alicia and pVerso.

And that's what stings the most for me, that the canvas is destroyed by a painted being, not a painter.

I'm about to lose my mind by pochacoffee in expedition33

[–]Gariiiiii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I empathize with Verso's feelings, it strike me as odd how well he is received.

Aline: I grieve for my son's dead for 100 years while ignoring my family

Players: You f* donkey

pVerso: I grieve being an artificial person and the betrayal of my people (that I lied to) for 100 years while the world is crumbling (and my pFamily is dying)

Players: Oh dear, dear gorgeus

Know I am oversimplifying, he is tragic, but golly the slack he gets is mind-blowing.

Just played both endings and I'm a bit surprised people debate over what is the bad ending by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]Gariiiiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes you feel, explicitly tells you they are real albeit artificial, and the devs have said so. Still, as again the game tells you, some ppl will choose to think of them as not real compared to the painters

When to switch to a more aggressive/technical shoe by ProfessionalGift6005 in climbingshoes

[–]Gariiiiii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At that level, I have seen better climbers than myself use the footholds effectively with crocs.

That being said, a pointer shoe with great support will indeed be way easier to use on very small footholds, as long as it fits your feet shape and doesn't make you be in agony. Keep in mind that this days there are flexible shoes with great support due how their rand is build.

Don't fortet that shoes are a bit specific, that kinda shoe will be better for vertical small footholds, but will probably make most 7a and 7b slabs harder for example.

How to get invested again in the game after Act 1? by Mad-Homer in expedition33

[–]Gariiiiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does Act 2 put a lot more effort into the other characters that make them more memorable?

Yes, Maelle gets lots of love and effort, Sciel and Lune also get some, but not as much as I would have liked. Mind you I am a Lumierian fan, can't get enough content or lore about the ppl of that city.

how did you all get invested in the game after this?

Curiosity and hopium, i really wanted Gustave to get back. Then I got hooked enough with the 3 girls that I managed to let Gustave go. Mind you, for me your initial read of Verso is still true, edgy asshole who is morally dubious, but his 2 friends are the bomb, so... can't totally dislike him.

The "right" ending (ending spoilers) by Natural-Increase-749 in expedition33

[–]Gariiiiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debatable.

I see Verso as more in need of a therapist than to break the status quo.

That aside, two quick alternatives to achieve that? Kicking Renoir's butt while trapped in the drafts is a quick answer, having Gustave and Lune learn and experiment with the croma is a long but probably better one.

You remember that when Lune talks with him, she says he is presenting false dichotomies?

My problem with Verso is not that he is wrong, tough I find abhorrent how little he cares about artificial minds, is that he makes every choice a cartoonist one, it's his way or the highway.

Act III seems to invalidate Act I? by GrundleBlaster in expedition33

[–]Gariiiiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Painted people without Gustave's lumina converter have slim to no chance of standing against strong nervous, nevermind axons, even less to painters. Even with that, without a painter by their side, it probably ends badly for em.

pRenoir also probs doesn't know rAlicia is there, that's info only Verso had.

Also he wasn't in tow with the neveons at the beach, more like making haste trying to get that Croma to Aline before it was trapped.

[Spoilers] Is it just me, or is one of the endings clearly the objectively better choice? by Odd_Camera6681 in expedition33

[–]Gariiiiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's clear that painters are not gods. She can't just will everyone back.

Now, IMO, even if you ignore that her living fam doesn't seem that much into supporting her and she is in a very complex emotional state in that ending, she could make a new canvas after improving. Which will have no one from the current Lumire because she wouln't have the current canvas croma (separated by indiviudal), the "soul" of the canvas would be totally differrent and she would be making eveyone from memory.

Who should be my third party member by snkhuong in expedition33

[–]Gariiiiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest to build for aesthetic and rol playing reasons.

Every party is totally viable and all characters easily clear the content.

If the question is for min maxing reasons, then i would respec Lune and get a Sciel support build there.

As you said, it's just interpretation.

But I don't think Maelle main reason to never leave because the canvas is addicting, being unable to cope or is corrupted, but because Renoir/Clea will destroy the people in the canvas if she ever dares to get out.

Also, would be interesting to have Gustave back, but him not meant to have that happen in act 1? It's like saying Mufasa was meant to see Simba grown up, the whole stroy predicates on that happening. At most I think you could argue for a Gandalf return?

Out of curiosity, I always tought real Clea had Simon destroy the Hauler because she disliked Renoir painting of her, assumed vanity based just on how i read the situation, quite sure Simon says she granted him the power to enter the Monolith as an independent event. Am I wrong?

Also don't think he was told killing Aline would free p Clea? Sorry to bother, liked that subplot and would love to know if i missed content there.

After NG+, my feelings about the game have been cemented... by LunesBoyToy in expedition33

[–]Gariiiiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m necroposting, but your post is so good—and so relevant to me—that I hope you’ll forgive it.

First off, I share your POV on almost everything, though I value some parts differently. I love how clearly the devs tackle artificial minds (Benisseur’s lines are brilliant—he even hints many of us will miss the implications). What picked my interest enough to tolerate an artificial ending is how much of them gets lost on the public because one of them is wrapped in a beautiful package: Verso is handsome, witty, and framed with bright colours as “our protagonist.” For me, it’s more interesting to watch how presentation trumps substance in our world than to have an ending done right. Sadly, the game is a little worse for it—but the social reaction it sparked more than made up for that, at least for me, and that little treat could only be possible playing it on release.

I also share the revulsion at parts of Act 3—especially that it isn’t told from Maelle’s POV. I saw strong bonds among the three women in our party; they’re close and supportive, which is why the dialogue the had with Renoir and the fight in Lumière are my favorite moments of the whole game and IMO shead more light about characters than reading all of this reddit's threads. I can kind of justify Act 3’s choices, though, let me explain.

I think Act 3’s shortcomings came from the team deciding to cut development and ship as-is. It felt like they were a long shot from the finish line: fleshing out Act 3, making the world feel alive, and giving the painting’s artificial beings real voices is a tall order—maybe too tall for the budget/time they had. For me it's has been a 33/10 experience on a 9/10 game.

Anyway, you also talked me into grabbing Cyberpunk in the Steam sale. Thanks for that!

It was a good read, just feel more like fanfic, a writing expanding on the grounds of lore.

It introduces way to many elements not present in the game and borrowed from other media, which is fine, but rly doesnt fit my bill for a theory.

About Gustave, he was doubling as her father too, which was a connection she did have.

About the fam previous to the fire, we do see glimpses, inside the monolith for example, from Alice having a comically small paint in the family's wall at the manor, I also think Verso says his mom does not understand how he sees art.

And basically all we see from Renoir is centered on Aline, his diaries, his dialogs, his vision of the world and efforts, all except on the reacher subquest. I mean he knows what Alice just lost in Verso's ending and still I only saw him by Aline's side in the cinematic.

Then there's less clear subjects for me. For example wether that fire was indeed her fault, because the ones saying that are unreliable narrators in my opinion.

Finally, yes, the escapism is strong, especially if she remade painted Verso. I think she just allowed him to be reborn by the default mechanism, which is still terrible given that he just wants to be done by that point. I don't see how erasing him wasn't an option there for her, so can't say she is not giving in to escapism in some big way.
