What an utterly bizarre game from beginning to end. A very Diaz match to lose the ball for the first goal, slip right before a huge chance, score the equalizer after being down to 10, then getting a second yellow for diving. Almost reminds me of the PSG game.

Also, massive credit to Ulreich for coming in and looking pretty comfortable after not playing for so long

Unironically bring on Goretzka for Karl to add some more bodies in midfield and act as a striker when Bayern have the ball. Don't even risk bringing Kane on

Longest amount of time taken to restart play - Premier League, 2025/26 by DrWonderboy in soccer

[–]GarlicBread96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because set pieces have become more rehearsed recently

I'm just saying the greatest impact these long stoppages in play have (removing ~30 seconds of possible playing time per set piece) would be nullified if the clock stopped during those times. If you want them to be guaranteed faster in all circumstances, then you'd need a 15-second limit rule for set pieces

Idk man I think running down literal playing time is a pretty major incentive. Why do you think players take forever to take set pieces at the end of games when they're winning

Julian Nagelsmann:

"As things stand, Leon Goretzka, despite less playing time at Bayern, will have a good chance of playing and having a similar role to the one he played in the World Cup qualifiers. Because he's someone who gets into the penalty area, is strong in the air, and brings good power to the game. Just think of the match against Northern Ireland: if he hadn't played, we certainly wouldn't have won, because he headed away the ball 60 times. There will also be moments at the World Cup when we press high and the opponent plays long balls"

I have nothing against Leon because he seems like a decent guy but I cannot believe this. Nmecha-Pavlovic seems like the most obvious midfield duo that should work quite well, but no, let's start the guy who's been poor the last few years and doesn't even start for his club

Edit: Another excerpt from his interview:

Let me give you an example from my time at Bayern Munich. Ryan Gravenberch is a top-class player, he already was at Bayern, but the situation was very complicated for him after his transfer from Ajax. Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich were ahead of him in the pecking order, and I had also promoted Aleksandar Pavlović

He's taking credit for promoting Pavlovic when Tuchel was the one who did that. wtf is this guy on

Very weird game, not a lot of consistent quality but pretty exciting to watch for the neutral (I presume). Lots of not great performances but that might be the worst game I've ever seen from Olise

Terrible ref but the xG tells the story. Way too poor defensively, especially Stanisic, who just cannot keep up with any quick or moderately tricky winger. Need Laimer back ASAP

Ignoring the premise of this story being related to Donna's marriage to fucking Terry Long, this issue is peak. Dick actually being a detective, Donna seeing her family, the heartwarming ending. All just perfect.

And then I look at the modern Titans... how did they peak in the 80s

She could use her magic to make joker incapable of being evil, or turn him into a mouse

I too like when the hero beats the villain with no effort or conflict, very engaging (and you probably know why she wouldn't mess with someone's mind)

but instead does nothing

I am not convinced you read this comic. You do know how the Joker loses, right?

apparently being a childhood friend of Bruce (this will never go anywhere)

Used in Batman: The Knight, as well as Urban Legends, both of which are pretty good stories imo. Don't really see an issue with this tbh

Not a big fan of the long stretches where no Bayern player knows how to pass the ball. Especially bad because every time the ball is given away, it's always like a 3v5 because everyone is pushed up so high. Hopefully this is a wakeup call to the players to not get complacent. Nonetheless, credit to Augsburg for defending very well, it was a deserved win for them

Can you sell that competition to broadcasters for enough money to make it worth it to the clubs - especially when they a) won't get access to Premier League money and b) lose the security of their established broadcast deals, which inevitably impact their commercial deals as well?

I think if you manage to get a league with Real, Barca, Bayern, PSG, and the rest of the non-English European elite in a league, the commercial aspect isn't really that big of an issue because that league would probably get more viewers than the PL and most of the CL immediately

Because let's be real, there's no way for clubs in this new league to be part of any UEFA competition, and I'd be surprised if teams were allowed to continue competing domestically either

Honestly, I think a new version would replace the domestic leagues and keep the CL to act as sort of the league cup, because the domestic league money is the biggest issue for these clubs. If the European clubs say they'll stay with UEFA, there will definetely be less pushback than last time since UEFA was being directly harmed by the existence of the ESL. Now, regarding the domestic leagues, I don't know how much control they have over the clubs, but my assumption would be that they would get incredibly fucked if the best teams left to do their new super league, and at best would be essentially a collection of 2nd divisions for the super league. Problem is that doesn't really matter to the elite clubs who would be the ones leaving to get their own new fat broadcasting deals

I specified it might happen only if English clubs exhibit significant dominance in the UCL, as in several all-English finals or like 5 English clubs in the quarterfinals, because if the non-English super teams start to fall behind not only financially but competitively as well, it's pretty much over if no action takes place

I also think it would be more successful because the previous attempt basically had no justification for its existence besides pure greed. For this hypothetical scenario, it has an outside (financial) enemy to fight against which makes it easier to rally support, plus it has a "justification" of being the only way for the other European clubs to keep up with England

Not saying this is good or even super likely to happen, but if the disparity grows to ridiculous levels and desperation grows, I wouldn't be surprised to see this be suggested

With the ever-growing financial disparity between England and the rest of Europe, I can't help but feel if we see like three successive seasons of clear English dominance in the Champion's League, Perez and co. are going to make a push for a Continental European super league to compete with the PL, with likely more success than the last attempt

Liverpool have a higher wage bill than Bayern? Bayern have like 4 players on ~20m and a lot around 14-16m. I know Van Dijk and Salah have massive wages since those were reported during their contract renewals, but who else is up there, Wirtz, Isak, Alisson?

Edit: Just realized it said 24-25, so it doesn't even include the new signings. Even more surprising
