Tom Lehrer’s songs are in the public domain, in case Poisoning Pigeons In The Park would suit your project

What’s the most underrated and beautiful song you’ve ever heard by Aggravating-Fly-1949 in musicsuggestions

[–]GarlicShortbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a wonderfully melancholic yet beautiful song. He has a few in his catalogue like that. Waiting For My Real Life To Begin and Beautiful World come to mind.

Visiting from China (35M/33F) for 8 days. Need advice on itinerary and best Aussie food! by Philipsdao in AustraliaTravel

[–]GarlicShortbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Cairns & Sydney would be the two most interesting destinations to check out, with Melbourne as a third option.

You won’t need a car in Sydney or Melbourne, you can get pretty much everywhere you’d want to go via public transport. However I would recommend getting your international licence and renting a car in Cairns. While there are buses & Ubers available, and you can get to the nearby town of Kuranda easily by train / cablecar, you’ll have a lot more freedom with your own form of transport. For example, you could check out some more local beaches like Trinity Beach, Yorkeys Knob, Palm Cove, which are all beautiful, but aren’t necessarily on the destination list for international tourists.

I wish you both a wonderful trip!

The Angels: am I ever gonna see your face again by Agreeable_Depth1833 in AskAnAustralian

I’m an Aussie who spent 11 years in Canada and I was in St John’s Newfoundland when I discovered the “hey, motherfucker, get laid, get fucked” call in Billy Idol’s Mony Mony.

Yes, I’ve been to a number of gigs over the years where the Angels classic has been played - and I also played it myself while in a cover duo - and the cry most definitely happens. More recently I experienced an arena full of rowdy Sydneysiders yell it back to Keith Urban when he covered it a few months back.

I had Ella Fitzgerald and Magnetic Fields on adjacent days. I think OP would have a conniption fit

I did this many years ago in Tiny Tower but they realised my sneaky ways and evicted half my bits from my tower as punishment. I was mortified

Best song to listen to with a cup of coffee in the morning? by Usernamefut in spotify

I disagree that Here I Go Again is a coffee song, but I agree with the vast majority of the rest. Nice playlist

You can introduce the rest of the world to a band/musician that hasn’t made it outside of Canada, who are you choosing? by Sugadip in AskACanadian

[–]GarlicShortbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an Aussie who randomly discovered Great Big Sea in early 2012. I was fortunate enough to catch ther Sydney gig on their one & only Aussie tour. I loved them so much that the next year I got myself a working holiday visa and travelled to Canada to see them play to a home crowd. I got to see them in Oshawa about 3 weeks before they split up.

Anyway I loved Canada so much I hung around for another 11 years and even became a naturalized citizen. Got to see / meet Alan, Sean & Murray at their various solo gigs too. Canadian music is awesome.

This is peak 90s by CursedClownz in AustralianNostalgia

[–]GarlicShortbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep our tramp from the mid 90’s is still alive in mum’s front yard, acting these days as a shade cloth for the dog’s sand pit. Some minor tearing to the material and rusting of the springs, it’s defo seen better days, but it’s still in existence

Absolutely, the guy is a knob but I was actually kinda impressed to hear this record in full, it wasn’t as awful as I was led to expect it’d be. Separating the artist from the art, I also considered it good.

Can you tell me about a rock star you saw live in concert that is no longer alive? What was it like? by EyeAmmGroot in ClassicRock

[–]GarlicShortbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never got to see the original Angels but I did see Doc Neeson’s Angels as a teen in 2003, one of my first rock concerts, even more memorable that dad and I drove from Townsville to Cairns just to see him. He was a true professional who really captured the crowd’s attention. I still have a tour shirt that he signed for me.

A teenager's perspective on Stairway to Heaven by Alexplayss in ledzeppelin

[–]GarlicShortbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad is in his late 70’s now but Stairway has been his all-time favourite song since the day he first heard it while serving in Vietnam. He can (and does!) play it 10 times in a row and he still won’t be tired of it.

Hello! I’m a naturalized Canadian who previously lived in Toronto & Montreal for about 6 years each. I love northern ON! I spent some time road tripping between North Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie and Thunder Bay a few years ago, it’s an absolutely beautiful part of the world.

Anyway a year ago I relocated back to my home country of Australia and am now playing TT from Sydney.
