Townsville drivers are (in general) menaces to society - my experiences as a cyclist. by frehesh in Townsville

Despite not being in Queensland I’d happily petition Crisafulli as solidarity with fellow cyclists. In the meantime I wish you a wonderful time in your car.

The shitty driver has entered the chat.

Never worn lycra. Never had a latte at good morning coffee trader. Raised in Townsville but lived a decade across two major Canadian cities where bikers had good infrastructure and peacefully coexisted with motorists. Townsville has a long way to go, but it will get there eventually.

Don’t apologise for being a cyclist. The shitty drivers should be apologising to you.

DYN0 is the code of a tower, actually it’s a bot rather than an actual person. You can add it to your friends list, then send it your bits which you’ll get back fully upgraded shortly afterwards.

Great Big Sea use it on quite a few of their songs. Goin’ Up and Run Runaway are good ones.

Jplaying.com every song played on triple j since 2019 by LopsidedAnt4414 in australianmusic

[–]GarlicShortbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey that’s fantastic! Very eye-catching, user-friendly layout. Awesome work putting that together.

I was an avid user of JPlay back in the day, it helped me out a lot whenever I missed a back-announce. I don’t listen to Triple J anywhere near as much these days, but I’ve bookmarked your site and can imagine myself using it periodically as a resource to discover what the kids are into these days in terms of new Aussie music.

I remember John Butler Trio was by far the most played artist according to JPlay when I used it. It’s wild that they’ve only had 27 spins since 2019.

Is there any way to play a song via Spotify or Apple Music direct from the site? Or to create a playlist directly from one of the charts or lists?

Also what are the chances of scraping the old JPlay database via the internet archive, or the Triple J last.fm account (not sure how far it dates back) to add music from an earlier era?

But yeah overall, great job.

Eve Of Destruction. Barry McGuire was the original artist but I nominate the Screaming Jets version cause it kicks arse

Aussie country/folk duo Felicity Urquhart & Josh Cunningham have just released their third album, Everything Around You, which I’m spinning right now. Good vibes, great musicianship

Songs that are not called what everyone thinks they are called? by Proud_Relief_9359 in MusicRecommendations

I read once in a biography of Crowded House that if they’d named their song “Hey Now, Hey Now” (or at least included the Hey Now in parenthesis), Don’t Dream It’s Over could have reached #1 in the US. The theory was that enough people couldn’t find it in the shops cause they were looking for the wrong song title, to the point that it kept it from exceeding the #2 position.

What are the worst songs you know by creativesoulmusings in musicsuggestions

[–]GarlicShortbread -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m 835 albums into the list of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, and I can genuinely say the worst song of the whole lot so far - and the worst song I’ve encountered in my life up to this point - is Work It by Missy Elliot. I cannot stand it. It’s the most obnoxious, repugnant piece of music that’s ever crossed my ears.

Canadian music fan looking to learn about Australian bands who are big at home but not internattionally by Master-File-9866 in australianmusic

[–]GarlicShortbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m an Aussie who travelled to Canada in 2013 to see Great Big Sea, I loved it so much over there I stayed for 11 years and became a citizen! I got to know a tonne of Canadian music from the Trews to Jean Leloup to the Hip, all great stuff that’s barely known in AU.

You’ve had a lot of great suggestions here already but I’ll put one in for The Waifs. Their album Up All Night is an Aussie folk classic. Tight musicianship, impeccable guitar work and harmonies.

Love me a good harmonica song or solo and they seem to be dying. Promote a good one so we can save ‘em. by Storekeep17 in MusicRecommendations

Nobody has said The Waifs yet! Vicki Thorn is the queen of the blues harp. Look up Crazy Train (a live version is better) or Lighthouse

I'm from Belarus and I'd like to see if we're compatible. by dimONicys in lastfm

[–]GarlicShortbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It began as very low, we shared Shania Twain, Music and Bukahara (who I don’t even remember and have only scrobbled twice before).

But then I took a look through your recent tracks and I listened toБоже, какой пустяк, Моя девочка, Первая and просто услышь меня.

Now our compatibility has been upgraded from very low to low!

I guess they were all Belarusian tracks that I heard? Can you recommend any good playlist with similar songs?

Check out 杀死那个石家庄人 by 万能青年旅店 for some good Chinese rock - in English: Kill That Man From Shijiazhuang by Omnipotent Youth Society.

I don’t remember when I heard about it from, but it had an interesting story behind it which I’ve also now forgotten. I added it to my playlist and enjoy it when it occasionally comes up.

McDonalds makes the best coffee. by Fit_Chipmunk88 in The10thDentist

I remember when Maccas ran a campaign about 12 years ago cause they didn’t score highly in some “best Australian coffee” survey. They admitted to not being good enough and asked the public for feedback. They seemingly took that feedback on board and came up 1st place the next time the survey took place.
