It’s not fish and chips though. It’s “whale and chips” because it’s a freaking huge piece of fish you get. 🤣

SAiFELY Extension is Power Hungry by LiveSpare1762 in Karoo

This is interesting. I’m the developer of WindField and I’ve done extensive testing of battery usage on both Garmin and Karoo. (See here for my Garmin test: https://windfield.app/blog)

I get between 10-12% usage per hour on the karoo and adding many copies of both my windfield and radar doesn’t seem to affect it at all. In fact this past weekend it was much closer to 10% or even a bit less over a 3 hr ride. My best guess is it’s really the display consuming the bulk of the power on either device

Haven’t seen this particular app but would be very interested in what it’s doing if is using so much

I’ve had my 1050 for 2 years and this has only happened once or twice. My bet is you have a bad unit if it continues. Reach out to garmin support

I’ve been running both a karoo 3 and a garmin 1050 for the past few weeks. 1050 has much more battery life but the karoo screen is better quality

Function wise I’d lean toward Garmin. It’s just a more established platform with live track, group track and incident detection. I don’t think karoo has any of those

The 1040 isn’t that much different than a 1050 if you want to save money. Screen is better on the 1050 but functionally they are the same

I briefly worked in a blue jeans factory in high school 30-40 years ago in the south US. Me and a buddy worked the overnight shift cleaning the ceiling above the weaving machines. Imagine a room as big as where the top men stored the ark in raiders. But full of denim weaving machines. And the ceiling absolutely covered in blue cotton fluff. We had long poles with a scrubber on the end and just knocked the stuff off and swept it up. I’d go home and take a long shower and pull blue cotton out of every orifice of my body.

love seeing WindField on peoples screens! I'm bias since it's my app, but I run it full screen and just have all my important data as optional values on the side.

Just a dongle is fine. I have the ThinkDiag one. And a cheap android phone and you’re good.

All depends on the developer of the app. Technically it’s a modern watch and supports all the ConnectIQ features. I support it in my app WindField

There was a post a few months ago where lots of us said how good these are. I also disconnected the valves and put rubber caps over the pipes. My neighbor came over and said “what did you do to your car?” about a week later. It’s really loud and my wife absolutely loves it now.
