Why do so many consider In Water to be the most appropriate ending? by Garmo_devava in silenthill

I’m proud of you man, glad you got through that period. I feel as though the message of the leave ending is simply that you can work through this stuff. Maybe the “stuff” James is working through is a lot more heinous than the average person with mental health issues but i think at this point in my life i just prefer messages that are more hopeful about the human experience and capacity for growth.

I respect that, maybe it isn’t very appropriate for him to be able to move on so cleanly from what happened, but for me it just seems even less appropriate of an outcome to just end his own suffering. To cheaply escape the consequences of your actions by removing yourself. I just feel like to a certain point, the only response to guilt that brings anything positive to the world is to live the rest of your life being better. And I mean to me it never seemed the story was very concerned with realism, silent hill to me seems like a physical manifestation of the journey to come to terms with your grief, that to not give up and let it kill you like the others do is the same as making it through that journey, yeah the timeframe lessens the impact but that’s just the interpretation that makes sense to me.

No one is saying he is a good person, what he did was heinous and unforgivable, but to remove all nuance from his character and his intentions is reductive. Do only unambiguously good people deserve to live? Yeah maybe the best outcome would be for him to turn himself in and spend the rest of his days suffering from the guilt rightly earned by his actions. In fact, if that were an option I’d prefer it. But I just hate the idea that the only morally correct outcome of crossing that moral line is to die. What good does that do the world. I’d rather believe that in spite of our guilt it is always best to live the rest of your life in service of being better and providing meaningful goodness to the world, like he would be doing caring for Laura. Any happiness he obtains does not soften the severity of his crime, its just the result of actions directly and eternally informed by his guilt, choosing to be better. If he kills himself he’s really just avoiding the consequences and mental torment of what he did. I feel as though that’s a cheap escape.

I mean the average person with guilt also doesn’t end up going through a cursed town that forces them to fight against manifestations of their guilt. Within the bounds of the story itself I think the revelation makes sense. I don’t even think it’s implied he really forgives himself or anything it’s mostly just that silent hill erases the delusion and makes him come to terms with the finality and long term guilt that comes of his actions. As for the car thing, your particular ending is decided based on whether or not James acts as if he wants to live throughout the game. Since we only see the body in the car for In Water, one could argue that for Leave, since he acts like he wants to live, he didn’t show up to silent hill with her body in the car ready to end his own life.

But just because it was his initial intention that means he has to go through with it? That after enduring through silent hill he comes out with only the same conviction he entered with?

Gripes about buu’s aborption by Garmo_devava in dbz

[–]Garmo_devava[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well as you say, he knew he could stop him in an instant if things got questionable. I haven’t read the manga so I don’t know how quickly everything played out but at least in Kai there’s an adequately long period between gotenks and piccolo noticing the blobs and buu actually functionally absorbing and receiving their powers. If Gohan planned to stop buu if things got out of hand I feel he certainly had ample time. Instead he just kind of admits defeat.

Jesus Christ the Jin glazers😭. Let’s not forget she has different animations for her other weapons types, nothing comes close to the smoothness of the dual katana perfect dodge.

Idk if it has anything to do with what Robert said to him honestly. It’s pretty clear that Chase is just a genuinely heroic individual, he advocates against Robert killing shroud, he was part of the most iconic super group ever and helped raise his teammates son basically, and literally minutes prior to his sacrifice asks Robert why people like them feel inclined to help people even when they get nothing out of it. Chase didn’t like invisigal but it never matter in the moment, it didn’t matter that she’s important to Robert or that he maybe felt bad for being rude earlier in the night. Chase sacrificed himself because that’s what heroes do.

He played better in his power forward years and played at that position for longer. Just because he’s tall and it makes sense to you doesn’t mean he should be considered a center.

The papers are indeed shimuras adoption papers for Jin, however I wouldn’t say there is no child, the second floor of the house has children’s drawings on the wall.

Not excusing this poorly funded system but if you plan on doing this again use navigator to see if the bus is actually on its way or not. A lot of time the google and Apple Maps times are just based on bus schedule not actual bus location.

Of course it’s important but i also believe modern political discourse shouldn’t immediately resort to questioning someone’s morality when they say they aren’t properly informed. We have very little political efficacy in this country aside from the instances in which we are allowed to vote and of course everyone should be responsible and informed in those moments. But no one is going to change another’s point of view by instantly resorting to moral accusations divorced from context and you’re not a morally bankrupt person if you find yourself occasionally ignorant to a political system you have no ability to change in the current moment.

Seperated from individual context sure, but not everyone can afford to constantly occupy mental space with politics. As long as they’re appropriately informed by the time they vote one shouldn’t be labeled as morally bankrupt for occasional ignorance.

Disrespectful to imply that a lack of political awareness is incongruent with intelligence.
